I plan on rebuilding my engine this summer (doing my homework now). Anyone know of any good engine shops in the bay area who do good work on nissan motors?

I ordered the forged pistons from nms, total seal piston rings, and plan on prepping it for NOS. I want to have the head refreshed and put in a mild "street" colt cam or similiar. Maybe shave the head a bit for more compresssion and do a .40 over bore for kicks.

This will be used as my daily commuter with nos for the occasional Caldacott Tunnel sprint.

Thanks,

Man... I dont' know anything about the Bay area, but I'm sure you've heard of Jim Wolfe Technologies.

They are very well developed for the KAs, and have tons of information.

Visit their site, I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Look around Old Middlefield road in Mountain View it used to be a hotbed of Import Performance shops back in the 80's Don Potter engineering. Far Performance(I think they are out of business now) Garrettson Racing etc.. Also look in San Jose and Santa Clara.

oh yeah lest I forgot two of the best engine builders in Nor Cali..
Doug Peterson at CompTech they have been building bad ass Nissan engines for 15 years and they also build bad ass Acura engines and Nissan IRL engines.
Also Rebello Racing in Pacheco he builds dope ass Nissan engines too.

There's a "CompTech" in Nor Cal? I thought that company specialized in Hondas. Unless there's a tuning garage that also happened to be called the same name.

Bah! I just watched him racing his yellow wide body Mini in the SCCA GT-5 runoffs, he doesn’t seem if he is very loyal to the Nissan cause.;) They interviewed him and he said that there were going to be a few more Infiniti entries in the IRL this year (like 5?)....or something to that effect, I was going back and forth between that and football and not paying attention to either.;)

And yes, Dpro is right. I would say that Rebello would probably be the best people to talk to about building a reliable streetable engine.

There's a "CompTech" in Nor Cal?
----------------------------------------------------
hahahahaha yes Takumi the one and the same . They started out in the late 70's early 80's as a race machine shop building Nissan engines and racing Nissans. When the Integra came out they got Honda to back them and went to town. Doug has several championships under his belt driving Nissans and Acura's he hit a gold mine with the Honda Acura stuff and the rest is history. He is the Owner of CompTech the renowned Honda tuners who tuned Nissans first and still does for IRL.

hey white, I was watching the GT-5 race on speed vision too.

Thanks fellas. I just talked to Rick at Rebello. He says he can build me a "street sleeper motor" for about 3500 good for about 200hp at the crank and about 200lbs torque and be smog legal. This is with the stock ECU and existing exhaust manifold ported and polished.

- port/polish head
- colt street cam
- nissan motorsports forged pistons
-arp rod bolts/head bolts
- long block and components magnafluxed
- total seal rings
- bored .40 over

This motor will run on 91 pump gas with about 10:15 compression or thereabouts. Torque curve will be moved up about 1200rpm with no loss in low end torque. If you guys say Rebello is all that ( I know they built great Lseries blocks back in the day with 510s and the z cars) then I'm sold!

Address and number please? Where is Pacheco? I've never heard of that area. o_O

Curious minds in Nor Cal would like to know.

Use Benson's Machine for block work and BCE Racing Heads for headwork.

Comptech is a 3rd party engine supplier for the defunct Olds IRL motor, which is now Chevrolet.

Nissan is only supplying 2 teams (Cheever Indy and Dreyer & Reinbold) with IRL motors, and since its only 2, its a works operation, not 3rd party.

However, since olds provides most of the motors, there are a lot of 3rd pary builder (Roush, Menard, Ilmor, Comptech, etc)

If you need more reassurance, go over to the 510/roadster/Z camp and ask around, that’s typically where you will see more Rebello work.

Goto yahoo yellow pages and search for Rebello and Pancheco. You will find the number and address. I am going with Rebello since the 510 and z car guys swear by them.

If any of you guys are seriously interested in building a NA motor, let me know. Maybe we can swing a group build or something..=P
