I am doing the kouki conversion to my zenki s14. I just purchased the reinforcement bar from nissan. When comparing my old reinforcement and the new one, I find that the two look identical. i heard that the 97-98 bar is suppose to stick out more. So how much more does it stick out? Is it a noticable difference?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, David
Ah this may be the first victim of everyone calling the bumper support the bumper reinforcement bar. Is the thing you got a big 70lb hunk of metal?

damnit, am I a victim?
it is that big piece of metal. I believe it's the actual bumper. I will take pics and post them, looks identical to the 95 one. Did i get f*ed? I can prob return and exchange for correct part, since I purchased it from Nissan.
thanks for the help.
Yea looks like you got the wrong thing, hopeully you can return it because its like $180 or something crazy like that. The part you want is called the bumper bracket. Part number 62290-80F00. Im still unsure why everyone calls this the bumper reinforcement but whatever...

I purchased the bumper bracket as well (62290-80F00). But from I hear, I need the left and right stays that attach this bracket to the reinforcement. I looked at the reinforcement I bought, and the sticker from nissan and put 62030-81F00 as the part number. From looking at this write-up, http://members.aol.com/GTspecR/write_convr.html , I should have bought the correct reinforcement bar... Could Nissan have made a mistake?
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Mmmm not sure as Ive never done it before but I was looking at this: http://www.zilvia.net/faqs/archive/koukiconversion.asp

I'm the guy that made that write-up, and I'm telling you that you need that part (if you don't want a saggy bumper). Nissan goes by different names for parts than what your more familiar with.
Feel free to ask me any questions. :)

Great!
I took some pictures of the reinforcement yesterday and have just uploaded them to my computer. They look identical. Can you tell me if Nissan gave me the wrong bar? The sticker that is on the reinforcement matches the part number that you and grant listed on both your write-ups. Basically just need some clarification as to whether or not they gave me the right part.
Thanks,

It's the right part, and its hard to tell the difference when they are face to face or side by side. I only found out that I needed a 97/98 bar when I was doing the conversion and ran into a problem of not properly fitting to bumper. I believe the 97/98 reinforcement bar is also slimmer and designed to fit behind the 97/98 USDM bumper. I would take a pic to show you, but its wet and cold outside. :p

Good, whoo, I thought I had to drag that big piece all the way back to Nissan... heh, so their is a difference..
I can't really see it... i guess if i put the stays on it will be more apparent.
I actually put my fenders, hood and lights on, and the lights seem to stick out more than the actual reinforcement does... is this placed correctly? I put on the bumper bracket too and that looks like it is the correct piece, cause that piece sticks out further than the actual reinforcement.
But thanks for your help, your write-up made my newbie-experience quite easy. I feel proud.
heh, Thanks

ummm...you just confused me  are you using the new one? if so, the new one will extend out just a tad bit more than the headlights.

yes, i am using the new ones.. that's why i was thinking that the reinforcement nissan sent me was the incorrect part...
let me try and take a picture to help clarify what i am saying.

whoops, accidently clicked the submit twice.
I took the reinforcement back to Nissan, and I believe they did give me a 95-96 reinforcement.
I will be getting my new reinforcement pretty soon, so I will follow up on my situation when I receive it.
Thanks for all your help 95kouki240.

It's 95KoukiS14 :p ....
did you place the bumper bracket on top of the reinforcement and install the bumper before returning it?
Cause I really don't see how they would slap on the wrong sticker on a part that's 6yrs old.

That's exactly what I thought, but they told me the bumper was tagged sept 2003. That would mean the bumper reinforcement was produced recently...
Oh well, even if it was the right one, they are going through the trouble of sending me a new one... But I'm pretty sure it was the wrong one, because what bumper reinforcement would not absorb the impact first? My headlights stuck out further than the reinforcement.
And yes i did place the bracket on top, that stuck out further as well... didn't really connect with my bracket.

hmm...I thought they did...but its not as beefy as the US version (no side protection).
Also you can use your bumper without the reinforcement, I did that for a week or so. It's just that you notice how easy it flops up and down when you play around with it or go over bumps at high speeds. :p

I wired up my headlights and they all work. However, when I turn my high beams off, my low beams shut off...
Any idea why this could happen? Maybe lack of voltage?
thanks, and happy thanksgiving

no...it has something to do with the low beam (H1) using two connections compare to the three connection (H4) that it use to have (or something along those lines).
I believe its normal and I have no idea why you would want low beam and high beam on at the same time.

I think us headlights turn off the lows when the highs come on while jdm lows remain on.

when you do a kouki conversion you need the reinforcement(70lbs hunk a jjunk) AND the bumper bracket that sits on top of it. so you need to upgrade both of those parts. when you try using the 97-98 reinforcement w/the 95-96 BRACKET, you will see a big boo boo, the bumper is TOO wide! so you do have the right part, you just need to upgrade the bracket. hopefully that helps. hit me up if you need any more help or questions.
