I was actually trying to quote someone else.
Anyways. I was saying, Most of the time I head out to drift events, track event, blah blah events. Some of these guys spend so much for seats that can't actually drive ie you. JK.
edit: If you're in a budget then why not.
Whatever works, used it.

Yeah TRUENOCOUPE is kinda right. Call it jealosy or whatever, but you see a lot of people with money just pull out the cash and get everything they need for their car and have it installed the first week. While some of us must wait and pool up money. :(
Then again some of those probably paid their dues. We all have are time to shine I guess. :)
Anyhow about that seats. I wish the copyright laws were better, so sellers can not trick buyers into buying what they think are great parts.

supposedly, if you're going to go knockoff seat - go Arospeed, because they're just rebadged recaros. even come in a recaro box so i hear.
my only concern would be getting a good slider that sits low enough. JDM recaro maybe? i doubt the bride ones would work.....(dousan your input if possible?)

these seats. i know they just came out with these recently and their older ones were complete crap....ahh wtf am i talking about. i live in hilljack wisconsin and haven't seen shit. so i'll wait to see if someone else can back me up. until then, :mepoke:
...
...you mean you were serious about the arospeeds being rebadged recaros??!? :o :bash:
Re: the seats on ebay... don't get them! If you must buy a cheap seat at least do what I did; find a good deal on a second hand momo/corbeau/OMP on ebay with a seller somewhat near by you, then go out and look at it, sit in it, and if you like it, pick it up!

the arospeeds are rebadged recaros. the box says recaro, the hardware says recaro, under the seat cushion says reraro, they feel exactly like recaros....they are recaros.
only thing that doesnt say recaro is the headrest.i guess that matters the most anyway

i probably doubt this, but i've heard R1 seats are made by Sparco. I don't know but a good friend is selling his torinos and getting R1's because of the Torinos lack comfort for daily driving (believe it or not, i agree with him) BTW, how much are the retail on the arospeeds?

Actually, the fact of the matter is that Recaro manufactures seats for arospeed. If you guys know, Recaro is one of the largest performance seat manufacturers, from OEM rockets like the LanEvo to fighter planes, and they are the guys arospeed contracts out to make their seats. And BTW, I know a couple of people there, and I did see this fact for myself.
old_s13
11-25-2003, 09:41 AM
I'de like to see some proof, have you taken apart both seats to compare build materials?
As far as I know, this is the SAME idiotic discussion that I heard on Fresh Alloy (and other forums) where people say the 180SX chassis is identical to the 240SX chassis.
Yeah, okay.. lets start this one up again. :)
Until I see proof, Recaro = Recaro, Arospeed = Whatever.
You know, NISSAN advertised the OEM S13 seats by saying that they've "torn apart some of the best seats in the world, including Recaro's" when they first introduced those odd-shaped seats which are found a dime a dozen in our beloved S13s. If you ask me, I wouldnt touch those with a 10ft pole.. Recaro or not, my back fuckin hurt for years with those lame seats.

11-25-2003, 11:05 AM
i highly doubt that arospeed seats are rebadged recaros. the price difference is way too different, and recaro SRDs, like most reclinable recaro's have that tilt thing on both sides of the chair. the arospeed does not have that function, which is a recaro signature. and R1 is all crap. sorry to say, but Sparco rather go bankrupt than be a part of R1's crap products. all their parts are cheaply made. im not saying its all not good, its jut not Sparco.
NEWS flash for you seat Newbies-
*** just cuz it looks like a recaro, doesnt mean recaro makes it. and jut cuz it looks like a Sparco, doesnt mean Sparco makes it too. just to fill you guys in, so you wouldnt look so dumb next time. :)

curbsurfer
11-25-2003, 12:53 PM
actually, the arospeeds retail for more than the SRD's, which are discontinued.
you guys can doubt and guess all you want. i have seen it with my own eyes.
im not some ricer hoping that crappy seats are the same as recaro. i was shocked when i saw the arospeed seat up close.

I believe the discussion on Freshalloy ended with the discovery that only the initial batch of Arospeeds were Recaro Speeds (not the SRD), and that subsequent batches have been copies thereof. Arospeed claims "Made in the USA with German technology" which is consistent - many of the true Recaro seats sold in North America are made in Mexico, I believe. Judging by the quality of my old Mexican-built VW, you might be getting something even BETTER through Arospeed ;)
I'd give them a shot before writing them off - some cheap seats aren't half bad (like Corbeau). Find a local rice shop that sells them and sit in them. That's really all that matters. A sharp eye should be able to spot manufacturing defects and the like that would make the seat unattractive.
Avoid Arospeed's rails, though. Typical universal junk. Luckily, if it's a faithful Recaro copy, nice low rails for Recaros do exist.

did a little google research just to satisfy my own curiousity:

scc says they're recaro's
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread/t-34871.html
this thread seems like it SHOULD have pictures of the recaro hardware, and the replys indicate it did at one point, but the pictures are all broken...so the jury is out on this one...
i dunno, i don't have them or anything so i'm not trying to justify something to anyone...i'm just curious and want to get to the bottom of this.

it really doesnt matter if recaro made the arospeed seats or not, the quality could be not as good. Enki makes blitz wheels, blitz cost about twice as much as most enki's, toyota makes lexus and lexus is more expensive, nissan makes infiniti and infiniti is more. Is lexus better than toyota, infiniti better than nissan and blitz better than enki? Arospeed might not be made as good as recaro even though recaro makes them. I dont know, why did i type this. im board:bash: :hammer: :bash: :hammer: :bash: :hammer: :bash: :hammer: :hammer: :bash: :hammer: :bash: :hammer:

Anyone have any experience with the DAD (Dynamic Auto Design) seats? I am looking at their suede seats because suede looks a lot nicer than the fabric on most racing seats. And I get get a pair for about 550 bucks...not bad at all if you ask me.

i was a corbeau hound for a while, then last weekend I sat in the CR1 I wanted to much. O god did that material suck. Then I sat in a Sparco Fighter and I was purely blown away. I love the Fighter seat, I will OWN a Fighter seat. OI love it.
Buy a cheap seat? Go the hell a head. Dont listen to these guys, its your car and your money. Pep Boys has a 259 fake leather seat that feels pretty comfy. Go for it.

Good point. . of course, the arospeed seat is a Recaro. . I wonder if it's been cheapified tho.
On another note, I've been sitting in cheap seats since I got my car. . stock seats are pretty damn cheap if you compare them to most of the aftermarket.

I have a set of tenzo-r seats, I swaped my interior for brown to black in my s13 so I needed black seats. My boy rocked his tenzo-r seats for the last 3 years daily driven back and for to work and at the drag strip and never had any problems. Remember this is black, all the other colors fade. I have driven in them for a 6hour trip and they were very comfortable. I got mine for 300 he got his for 500 back then. Cant beat that for a good price. Yeah I would love jdm seats and all but i would much rather put that money in my motor. Maybe if i did auto-x or drifting I would need something with a tighter fit on the sides. Just a little review for ya, dont flame. Oh i my boy has the sparco seats that are the same style in his ZX2, and honestly i cant tell a diffrence in them. Sparco seems to be a bit thicker material in the covering, but the comfort is the same. He got his seats for a friend with a NSX they were used for 2 months and he still payed a grand for them.. to much bread for me. I dunno how much they were new but he said like 1200bucks. Thas like a 3ed of the book value if not more for my 92 240sx. Rember when it comes to seats, dont bash them unless you have used them.

Dude, all you have to do is look at the company to determine whether or not they are inept. Tenzo? PLEASE. If these guys cant make a quality wheel, or a quality light bulb, what makes you think they are going to make quality seats? My friend has them in his Integra and I think they blow ass. They have absolutely NO comfort to them, I feel like I am sitting on wood.
Sit in a set of Skyline seats, doesnt matter if they are off of an R32 and over 10 years old, they fit like a glove and the suede material is STILL in good condition after years of use, so is the foam padding and seat adjustments.

good point
i tried:
tenzo: JUNK. felt like crap and had no decent support
DAD: hard and sat high. so so support
APC/whatever is at pep boys: all junk and ROCK HARD. i needed a back alignment after just sitting in them at the store
aerospeed, tyring that soon.
i wont comment on the bigger brands (Sparco, Bride, Recaro) because those are well known to be high quality (i've tried all sparco and bride seats...not recaro yet, just SRD and some bucket)

I dont understand the wheel part?? I have had a set of older shu4's that are white, had them for 4 years, no chipping no problems what so ever. You you know of some that just fall apart, or the paint falls off? Yeah they might weigh a bit but im sure my turbo will take care of that. Pluss there just for street, on the track is welds all the way.
