after finding out the hard way that the JDM loom is different from the UKDM one me and the girlfriend tried to make a copy of the JDM one with the UKDM one, needless to say the JDM one was too far gone, shit was melted together so we couldnt make out where wires were pinned to the start charge loom :(

My tyres were scrubbing on the inner arch obviously hence the tubbing but something harder to solve was that the tyre was catching the underside of the wing 'truss'

So i supported the front of the car to stop any 'sag' while i started modifying it.
I cut in hard:

folded it back so i could get to the back of it and cut it off.
Cut to size a peice of 1.5m, tacked one end then bent to follow the curve and tacked in place:

Then once it was secure i welded it in, thoroughly, seeing as its structural. Dont mind the dog shit welds, i was upside down looking up with the sky in the background which meant i could see fark ALL

I cut along the length of the arch to get rid of the curve back inwards towards the tire, il weld a strip in its place for maximum room:

While finishing the welding on the drivers side tub i managed to somehow melt the wire to the swan neck liner (inside the neck), so while i waited to get one I couldnt be getting on with the tubs so i spent some time on other bits and bobs that needed sorting.
Got the new Fidanza friction plate for my unknown lightened flywheel:

because i didnt know the make of the flywheel i had to make an educated guess at which pcd friction plate to get, luckily i was right!

I was going to clean the engine down and spray it with some high temp enamel i ordered, but with my spare time i spent a few hours with a few wire brushes, white spirits, some rag and a tiny screwdriver cleaning it up, im well pleased with the results, i really wish i took a couple of before pics.
Took the alt, power steering pump and belts off to give everything a good going over.

I didnt get any pics but i also sealed my diff back together, im thinking about painting the back cover (you can probably see it from behind the car lower down)
The next day I managed to swing by a machine mart to pick up a swan neck liner so i could carry on with the tubs:

That afternoon the mrs picked me up from work, so in the car i start messing with the neck liner out the packet, when we pull up i bend down to grab some bags and "plop" my new neck liner slips out my grasp straight down the drain!!!!! I was PISSED!!
Luckily my dad had some mad magnet on a stick thing and we actually managed to rescue it!
So the next day i was off work and managed to crack on with finishing the drivers side and getting the passenger side done.
Also my new twin fan+ally shroud setup came, had to throw it in to see:

In no particular order:
Jay started some filler work and i started work undoing the JDM bodge that some jap dude did to my front end, the vertical supports were cut and bent out, then bolted to a huge tray which my intercooler sat on.

the middle support had been cut shorter to suit so i welded a new one in (was a chopped up shelf bracket :P ), did the job though, before when i would unbolt or bolt anything that was connected to the slam panel the whole thing was so flimsy it would twist, now its completely solid :D
So now the front intercooler bodge was sorted i had to actually fit the intercooler again, made up some brackets, bolted them to the IC then supported it on jacks in the position i wanted and tacked the brackets to the car, then removed it and welded it all up.

I mounted it at as much of an angle as possbile so i had maximum ground clearance:

underseal for the arches/tubs

Just as i was finishing the welding on the intercooler brackets my welder ran out of gas, so now im stuck without a welder for about a week :(
in the meantime iv been getting on with bits that needed sorting, i got round to getting the arches/tubs undersealed:

Removed the passenger side driveshaft, when i was taking the diff out i noticed some minor damage from when i dirfed, so i figured i might aswell chuck a new one in while its apart.
Oh yeah, the teg sold so i have most of the money for my lips, in preperation i put the car on stands, while i was doing so it fell off the jack :shock: :roll:

Thats just to get things straight in my head more than anything lol
Also on a positive note, Loom should be here by friday, the CORRECT ONE :cheers: and il be ordering my rear overfenders tommorow for a bargain price, 50mm chargespeeds (thanks ben), they also agreed to do my fronts for a bargain price when they start production for the 14.

Also managed to get my wheels apart today with the help of tesh.
The nuts and bolts are perfectly fine, so to save money im just going to buy as many as i need (there are a few missing as i brought the wjheels in peices)

Iv been reading about people using coke to clean up rust so i got the mrs to pick up some cheap coke and threw the nuts and bolts in, il let you know how it turns out.

So I got my new gas bottle (thanks duane) and managed to finish the welding in the bay off a couple of days ago.
then today Jay came round and we got the filler work done, its not perfect but its ok for me for the time being, i have to draw the line somewhere or i would be on it forever.

finished patching up the drivers side arch that i started before i even took the engine out, finally! started fitting the drivers side rear over, lining up the fuel cap is a complete bitch!
been messing around with the ride height too, i spent aaaaages on the rear trying to get both sides level, still not perfect

Until i get a new engine start/charge loom i cant actually put the engine back in so im hopefully looking to get one end of the month latest.
Im also having a little trouble fitting the drivers side overfender, the drivers side rear wheel seems to be toeing in quite alot, i can only assume this is from when i slammed the passenger rear wheel off a curb. After that happened i brought a new subframe and arms, the subframe was completely rotten so i just changed the arms and it seemed ok, but now the arch-wheel clearance is si tight its become an issue.
Luckily the guy i got it off was working for GDUK jap parts, the boss has since said i can have a new one free of charge if i can pick it up!! he also has a start/charge loom for me!
gunna get the new subframe sandblasted, powdercoated and fit new solid ally bushes, but this is all looking to throw off the JAE deadline :(
The next big step is the arch loom, it turns out that my car is going to be VERY hard to find a loom for so im looking to make a copy of it using one of my UK looms, which should be.......fun :(

I finally pulled my finger out my ass and started on the S again
since im not rushing to get it ready for anything i can take my time and enjoy it again. Plus i need to do like 1 hour tidying everytime i work on it, from rushing to try to get it ready for JAE (car show) i completely fucked the garage up, shit is everywhere again.
anyway, i got another can of paint today to finish the subframe:

then got the lacquer on, i cant beleive the difference the lacquer made to the colour, the pics exaggerate it but the colour is alot more 'rich' after lacquer:

Took off the old subframe today and fitted the new one, one the rear lower toe arms was seized though so i have had to fit the new subframe without one.
Im in two minds weather to get a nearly full set of ebay arms for a good price or just get 326 power rear lower toe arms at probably a high cost.

Since you're in the UK, I'm not sure why you can get your hands on, or what you would consider reasonably priced, but isn't Driftworks like the main supplier of stuff over there? Why not used their arms? If you were in the states, I'd suggest Powered by Max or Fortune auto for good arms that won't kill your wallet, but I'm not sure how much you'd have to pay in import duties and/or shipping.

Driftworks are like a 10 min drive from where i live too, i just kinda boycotted them.
1) everytime i have dealt with them they have been unhelpfull and up there own arses, like they are a higher state of being than a mere mortal like me.
2) I HATE the forum, its full of opinionated twats (atleast the people who post up) and even after reporting a guy for being a dick MY account mysteriously stops working.
3) I dont like the brand, the orange grinds my gears now, and every chav with a s body over here has driftworks plastered all over them

buttttttttt you might find, if your not going for geo hub knuckles, they may smash into your solid subframe bushes... some notch them, some buy PSM arms as the are "bent" style

Reasons why my feelings are hurt:
1) Driftworks guys are big meanie heads.
2) Their fans are abundant, and annoying.
3) I don't take kindly to the color orange.
Don't let your feelings get in the way of getting good stuff, mate. Driftworks just makes good stuff, period. Aside from that, you'd be pretty well off to outfit your car in lots and lots of Powered By Max stuff. I love everything they make, especially for lowered cars.

Iv ordered the fortune auto ones, I know what you saying but i can't help the way I feel about all three points.
On a serious note the dw arms are the straight ones, I wanted the bent ones for riding low, j won't rule dw out in future though, for knuckles etc in the future.

Anyone got any tips when fitting drivers side overfender, the fuel caP area gives me greif, I'm literally now going outside to start fitting it.

Would the seals in the diff tale 220degreesc for 90mins in an oven? ideally i could do with baking the diff for the enamel to cure best. anyway:

Yesterday i spent a few hours going around the car looking for rust, any i found i plastered on some Kurust (amazing stuff)
then spent a little while undersealing the front of the car so there is no exposed metal:

Then today i spent a little while manouvering the diff into place without scratching it (its fucking heavy) and bolted it up:

Then spent the rest of the day and night getting my head round the wiring, cropped all the stuff i dont need (fog light plugs, ambient air temp sensor and the oem horn wires), un loomed it all and re routed it so it was hidden, then got to work routing it all to meet up with the rest of the loom:

Today was a good day :D
got a lathe, set it up in the shed with my dad:

was a complete bastard, its SOOOOOO heavy!!
Had to use the engine crane to get it up on the table!
Then started on the car, all wiring.
Got the new front loom 'loomed' up, I was going to use the swanky braided looming but i read it wasnt waterproof :s so i had a bag full of plastic ribbed loom i had hoarded over the years. i only had brown tape :( you wont be able to see it anyway though i suppose.

Fitted the ambient air temp sensor for the climate control in the wing si its not visable up front.
Also routed the horn wire there ready.

I brought 2 packs of these things, ideal if you want to secure wire but dont want to drill holes:

Used them with great effect to route the battery cable (didnt get pics)

Got more sound deadening up, this is the distribution block i used, i couldnt get a pic of it with the covers in situe, its tucked under the heater matrix:

So i nievely connected the freshly charged battery and started plugging things back in, this while time i had been convincing myself nothing would work and it would be a disaster but to my suprise:

It felt so good to see it slowly coming back to life!
but for some reason i still wasnt getting any ign/acc :s so i was trouble shooting for ages, found a couple earths id forgot to fasten but still it wouldnt crank or give me acc/ign................I had blown the ign maxi fuse back when i rubbed through the loom, in my excitement i had completely forgot i removed it, so after a mess around bridging maxi fuse prongs with a screwdriver i found the ign slot, i nicked a 30AMPer out one of my donor looms clicked it in and.....the fuel pump came to life and SHE CRANKED!!!!!!!!1
SOOO FUCKING HAPPY!!! STILL!!
I didnt try to start it cus i had drained the oil and still havnt changed the filter etc, so next up is drop the last dreggs out the sump that may have settled down, fill the new filter up, slap it on and fill her up.
then i can start on getting it running proper!

fuse box is on the passenger side dash rail, i dont have a airbag dash so im just going to put the dash back on for the time being and when a fuse goes il cut my way to it and make some sort of flap/window.

there name on the packet is "adheisive cable tie clips" if that helps, dont know what the US wording for that would be....."gum zip tie hooks"? :p haha

Now that i know the car actually starts/works i am LOVING working on it again, it can actually start going back together and i can start doing the 'fun' bits, shit, i hoovered it out the other day! felt like a milestone! a far cry from cutting the front of the car away.

anyway, over the weekend iv been going over the car tieing up loose ends mainly; sorting the trim out in the boot, routing the battery cable and earth stealthly and securely, tucking bits of the engine loom, tightening up engine mounts etc etc etc

The hockey puck engine mounts feel good too, the car whole car vibrates, i love it, feel solid, feels like a full on race car haha
the only 'big' thing i got sorted really was fitting the charge pipes, also figured out where/how im going to mount the washer bottle, probably going to use the rear sprayer as a IC mist spray but all in good time.

Shit, im ashamed of how far behind this thread is :duh:

leaving off from the last post;
finished car and finally got to drive it
span a shell the next day :bash:
took out engine next day
months of being off the road again while i rebuilt engine
engine finished and dropped in
drove car, bonnet flew open, bent bonnet, smashed windscreen, dented roof :bash:

anyway, its been on the road long enough for me to give it a decent shakedown and start having some fun in it again, although it doesnt feel like its making anywhere near the power it did, just need to go over it with a fine tooth comb looking for boost leaks etc.

I'm trying to lower my car some more but I'm having trouble making the rear wheels tuck, they are 12.25J, I'm not sure of the offset.
I was running like 4.5 deg camber with a slip on spacer (9mm) then I had the alignment redone, taking the rear down to 0.45deg, I had to take the 9mm slip on off so the tyres would clear the arch, but then the inside of the wheel would rub the coilover when the suspension was loaded, so I put a 5mm slip on to prevent that, but now the tyre rubs the arch like fuck.
In short, is there anyway of moving the coilover further back? I want to tuck but I don't want anymore than like 1.5deg camber on the rear, which I don't think is going to happen unless there is a way of moving the coilovers further inward.

I'd love to hear from anyone that's tucking 12j's

I know, the flash really highlights the rust there, looks like nothing a good wire brush wouldnt get off, then underseal.
