This was found on NICO forums and was originaly posted by a memebr by the name of: smug510

ok guys here it is proof

i just got a late 88 sohc block that came in a friends 89 240. got it home and immediatly started putting the 95 dohc head on it , and it bolted to the block.

as you can see the head bolts all line-up with the dohc gasket on there

http://www.digitalpose.com/mbr/1/27286/p/548368_5283445188918714768_vl.jpg

then i took the sohc and dohc crank gears and they are the same size and the same teeth with the same spot marked, and here is also the timing chains the sohc one is signifantly larger, so i used the dohc timing chain and the timing chain guides and tensioner.

so it looks like this

http://www.digitalpose.com/mbr/1/27286/p/548379_217121223826485827_vl.jpg

the only problem i ran into was this, on the top of the timing chain cover where the tensioner goes , the dohc one sticks over the top hole a little , so you will have to shave one or the other

and i guess you would be able to choose which distributor you want to use , but all and all its now been done , this combo should have 11.7.1 comp. and a whole lot cheaper than putting the pistons in a dohc , if you have any questions feel free , i did this in about an hour .

Here is the link so you can read the entire thread. It is very educational.

So how does it feel to know that this as well as all other forums I have visited has been spreading fictional information claiming it to be fact.

I feel violated,

Yeah smug510 did outline the main points of the conversion, a while ago, that post is old. It is basically a straight forward swap. In time a less sketchy timing chain setup will be developed.

The most important conversion has yet to be accomplished, ka24de head on z block, which is much more worthwhile. More timing chain issues, but at least the late z24i came with single row timing chain setup.

l, z, ka hybrid builds are the dope

i hate to sound like an idiot but is this real or not?

yeah it is real. Why do you think it isnt? because its on nico? really though i hope people become aware of this so they do not give other people incorrect information. ka, l, z parts are all basically compatable. Only differences are in main journal widths and timing chain configurations, as well as the ka oil pans being a bit different but easily modified to comply. You could even put a l20b head on a ka24de if you wanted to

ohhh i feel dumb i thought this "So how does it feel to know that this as well as all other forums I have visited has been spreading fictional information claiming it to be fact." meant that the guy was lying and other forums were lying also. im sorry did he ever get it to run?

I see how you could get that from the message. I dont think he has it running yet. He is running sohc turbo in his 510 at the moment i believe, because i just sold him a harness. theoretically it should work just fine

well for a while people kept saying that the heads wouldn't bolt up, so maybe he is saying it was our forum that was spreading fiction by saying the heads wouldn't bolt up.

well yeah this forum, nico, and freshalloy all told me that the water jackets didn't line up nor did the head bolts. Obviously this is untrue, and i was just pointing out that most of the forums were just spreading rumers, instead of facts.

Don't worry, those rumors are far more common than facts. They won't go down without a fight!

Anyhow, sounds slick. I'll save comment untill he takes it to the road.

Damn, I have always wondered if it was true or not. I can't wait till he gets it running. I hope it actually works out.

hey 2 stupid questions

how much hp do u think this would put out?

and can the sohc bolt on to a dohc block to lower compression so that you can turbo charge it easier?

err SOHC head on ka24de block....

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it better to have dual cam shafts so its easier to tune the timeing of intake and exhaust, making the tuning of a turbo a lil better?

I'd rather have a single cam setup. Im going KA-t on a SOHC. It's more torquey and will rev just as high with the right setup. Or so i've heard. I cant tell you from actual experience.

hey i am new to this forum stuff. i hope this question goes thru. i am trying to find out what sort of ac bracket is needed to complete the ac back onto my 240sx hatchback 1989. i just installed a sr20det a few months back and really want my ac back and running. heavy throttle says that a custom ac bracket is needed so that i can run my stock ka ac set-up onto my sr20det block. the only problem is that i can't find anyone that actually knows how i should fabricate the custom ac pump mount. i am looking for a template or maybe someone who might sell the part already made. i have the latter model ac lines standing by waiting for the install. i have the stock ka24e(single cam) pump and 2 sr20det ac pumps also. many brackets and extra parts. it seems that everyone that i've talked to so far always says" forget about the ac it's to much of a hassle". i really miss the comfort option of having ac and the factory is able to include ac on their cars so why can't i have it too? any help would be greatly appreciated.
