I dont know why people have to manufacture stupid products. Those gauges would look nice on a wall in some car shop, just because they're INTERESTING. As for my car, I dont install crap that is just "INTERESTING." What is the function behind that, besides seeing the entire internals of your gauge cluster?
NOTHING.

You have RPS13 gauge cluster? That's by FAR my favorite. I had planned for that in my S13. .
How does the odo work? (I'm assuming the functionality is all contained within the cluster) . . how about wiring? I've never known anybody that had it.
(k so I doan actually know if you have them haha)

It is by far my favorite too, that is why I had the 96-98 cluster with my SOHC KA, and I still have a 96-98 cluster with my 96-98 SR. :)
No simple way to get it working.

Makes me wanna find another S13 (one that doesn't have cancer) and work from there. . haha. . are the needles as red as they look? I've always wondered. . seems a lot like the 99 maxima SE-L needles. .

i dont like the gauges... i agree with the not haveing a function idea... and they just dont look good enough not to have a functiom.
i like my gauges as they are for now

here is a pic of the gauges when I had them with my KA:
http://clearcorners.com/240sx/Interior02.jpg
The needles are as red as red can be. I basically used a mix of KA gauge cluster components and parts off of the 96-98 cluster, it was quite a bit of work. However, my gauges are quite different than those found on the 96-98.. mostly because mine were converted to 180mph and my interior lookED like this: (I say LOOKED because I no longer have an interior, for now).

About those clear ones, I am surprised it took so long to make em. But hmm its butt ugly. I always hated things that were made see through, like cell phone covers that are clear, or pens that are clear. They make them non see through for a reason, cuz its ugly on the inside, just a bunch of mechanisms most people don't even understand.

Mark: your interior and gauges are f'n AMAZING. I've changed my stock 97 LE gauges to red, but I haven't changed my hvac, etc. . it's cool how you reused the analog odo on that . .it DOES look like a lot of work, but it's worked out VERY nicely. .

When you are driving down a dark road in the middle of the night the only thing you will be focused on is the bright ass light shining in your face. As you can see the leds (or lights ) which ever they are. Will be shining right through the clear face with nothing blocking it. Plus the circuitry is really cluttered looking.

Many many hours of disassembly, LED work, and reassembly. Needless to say, it took a lot of trial and error -- there were several sets of buttons and misc gauge components that "didnt make it." Taking these components and putting them back together with LEDs is far from easy and quite time consuming. If you are looking for something simple, just get red bulbs. I am an LED freak, hence the reason I own an LED lighting company.

Having a REMUS exhaust and black leather seats doesnt help, does it? hehe man, you know BMW cant hang with my LED skillz, y0. ;)

Thanks. The analog odometer needed to be kept with the KA. With the SR, I plan on having everything operable. The digital odometer already works, I am working on the digital climate control and various other interior wiring. Re-wiring your S13 is no easy task, one day at a time.. one day at a time.

My local speedometer shop put my car on their calibration machine and used a pulse converter box to adjust the values from KPH to MPH. My old KA never went past 140, but I am sure my new motor will! Its too bad my tires are fuckin SLICKS and my battery isnt strapped, just sitting on the floor of my passenger seat. Maybe when my car is all back in 1 piece, I'll try to out do my top speed (and end up in jail!!!) YEAH!!! :)

Dude, my car is in shambles. I wish I wasnt so damn over-worked, I'de have time to do ALL the stuff I've wanted to do to my S13 without time constraints. I cant remember when the last time I even had an interior, let alone a stereo. Its nice to have these pictures for people to praise and admire, but I can honestly tell you attaining projects like this is not easy. If that was the case, I'de have a fully working S13! Honestly, I just got my wipers and headlamps working a few days ago. Plus, my dual LED tail lights are ALL messed up.. rings arent even working (water damage). UGH.
haha oh well, rome wasnt built in a day..

hahah ya gotta love works in progress. in the ideal world we'd all have second or third cars we could drive while working on one and enough free time on the weekends to do so. hell I still havent tracked down whatevers causing the SR to buck and sputter when trying to hold 4grand steady... I need to do that. mmm maybe this weekend if we actually get out to the shop and I can find the multimeter. need to start paint prep work on the car getting dings and scratches out.. ughh. too much I wanna do. I wanna get new SS before I paint her though.. still need to get the new turbo on.. the SAFC in new injectors a boost controller and a 300 mafs...

You're telling me brotha. I was real close to getting a second car just recently, but you guys gotta understand life in LA. For one, its not cheap.. so the car with its insurance costs would be fairly considerable. The main reason was my apartment, just NO room for shit out here. I have ONE parking spot, and that is solely reserved for my stripped S13.. no way I can park that thing on the streets right now. For those of you who still live at home or have garages, you are lucky. Besides, I closed my shop and opened up an office instead.. so I am kinda limited as to when and where I can work on my car.
I was going to get an old L320 Datsun pickup truck, 90hp beater! But then I realized that buying a used car is no solution for getting my s13 project completed, it just COVERS up the truth: I NEED TO SIT DOWN AND WORK ON IT. As much as a spare car sounds good, it would probably end up being just a big expense in the long run as my s13 sits and does nothing. I just gotta get up off my ass and work on it. If only the work I was doing was simple, I end up spending a lot of time letting things "sit" so I can get ideas stirring in my head. After the motor swap during the summer, I've basically left the car sitting and barely driving it.. just errands and such. Its funny going places with a stripped car, people are ALWAYS looking and kinda checking the car out.. because outside it looks soo good.. inside looks sooooooo bad. :)
Oni> Mike your interior is wonderful. I just can't get over how nice it looks, I think you should go work for car production companys. Im sure they would be happy to see what you can do, your work just boggles my mind :-D
Thanks man. If you spend the time and put fourth the effort, I am sure you can do it to. Go to the scrapyard and get a spare gauge cluster to tinker with, you will learn how the internals work. There is plenty space to mount all types of light sources, from LED to cold cathode.. that would work well too and is much easier (just a bit more bulky). Here are a few pics of cold cathode that I am tinkering with for a customer:
http://clearcorners.com/deron/Gauges3.jpg
Interesting stuff, huh? Oh as for working for a mfg, I dont think thats possible. I would never be content working for anyone but myself. I am very picky with the work that I do, manufacturers are just interested in making money. Although I like making money, I enjoy seeing people trip out over my crazy ideas much more. People think I am rolling in dough since my products are so pricey.. they just dont understand how expensive high-quality components cost and how detailed and time consuming this line of work is. I cant blame people for not understanding, its just a shame people are so quick to judge someone's work without even seeing it in person.
Yeah.. okay.. i'll put an end to this yapping.

Whats gonna be your new motor set up? Still KA? Still NA? Inquiring minds want to know. Also thumbs up on your use of LEDs.

Dousan is right again, I did say it. :)
I've always liked the SOHC motor, mostly because its so neglected and easy to attain. I always wanted an empty engine bay and have a love for simple, old-school things.. so I wanted to carb my SOHC KA and go high compression. From what I learned, I heard that 200 NA on a KA should be attainable. Cost of this motor work was estimated at 3000-4000 at my local motor buildup shop. I had a spare KA with TONS of KA components in my garage for years while I was thinking about it. I didnt expect to blow my KA up, I mis-shifted and 8,000rpms on a 165k old motor isnt a good mix. The head/valves were fine, the bearings were already worn and that kind of revving just pushed them over the edge. I got a lot of experience and really abused the hell out of that setup, from when it was auto.. then manual. After blowing it up, I needed a motor immediately, so I decided to go with a 96-98 SR20DET. The SOHC KA was rebuilt and had "enough" power for me to work with in the canyons. The SR is a good motor, and stock its MORE than enough for just about anyone I know. I think people who build SR's are mostly doing it for either bragging rights or straight line racing, both which I am not interested in.
Anyway, thats my story.. my SR is relatively stock except for a few minor mods. I still prefer NA as the power is immediate and always available. Turbo is nice since its power can be increased (or decreased) so easily, but in my opinion its finicky.. the cars run hotter and there lots of plumbling involved making the system more susceptible to damage. I like the SR though, I spent about 2 months working on it cleaning it up and rebuilding it.. its a well designed motor. The plan now is to re-wire the entire car and get every accessory off of the 96-98 180SX working on my car. I still want that empty engine bay, and I have already removed a trashcan full of OEM wiring from the harness. I'm not a fan of harness conversions, I'de rather re-work the entire car and know that my wiring is top notch.
