View Full Version : Fuel pump problem
Ok I have a s14 and deres something wrong with the fuel pump. Everyone knows that you could hear a slight sound when turning the keys (not all the way) when starting and its the fuel pump engaging. Well my fuel pump is malfunctioning. When I turn the keys (not all the way), I hear the fuel pump constantly making a sound and when it stops, it starts making a clicking sound, coming from the side panel, where the accessory fuse box is at.
Then when I actually start the car, it starts surging. It feels like the car's about to die out so I turned it off. Need help!!

relay,fuse, or fireworks??
To be very specific, here's what i did that started this problem. First i was checking the fuse to see if everything is correct. Then i noticed that some fuses were in the wrong place. (Ex. fuel pump fuse was specified at 15 amps and i found that it was using a 10 amp fuse). Of coarse that's not right. So what i did i put all fuses to specs and then this is when the problem occur. My fuses are fine, not blown or anything.
What's causing the problem???

clicking sound could be coming from a relay not a fuse.

Check the wiring to the fuel pump relay. Maybe its a loose connection causing it to kick the relay on and off over and over again. Either that or try swapping over another relay.
Kick the relay on and off over and over again??? Meaning when its priming on and off. Cuz what im hearing is that when i turn the keys i hear the fuel pump priming for a few seconds then it stops. Then i hear it priming again, then i hear clicking sounds like its malfunctioning. Relay?? Need more help and info.
