Sounds Like Knock But Isn't Knock?(S13 SR)

Eh so I've got a intresting problem. Ive got a slight knocking sound coming from my motor. Its not very loud. Ive checked all my rocker arms to make sure none were broke or damaged. I don't think its a collapsed lifter cause it does not knock at all during idle. Only thing ive determined is that it on one spot of my intake cam it was starting to very slightly score. I've had several buddies look at the car an we have all determined its not rod knock. At one point we even tried to blow it up by wrapping every gear out. It didn't get worse or better. The knocking only occurs around 2500-3200ish then fades off:wtf:. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

could be a rocker knock my friend just had the same thing with his s13 sr a few weeks back.

Did you check to make sure you have all the shims? You could be missing a shim.

Also you said its scouring on the cam, did you check and make sure the oil dripper isnt clogged?

Although I rarely drive the car until its up to operating temp. Could you elaborate a lil more on "Rocker Knock"???? But No I didn't check the shims but the oil dripper I didn't check either an have been thinking about that as a possibility too. I'll try an get a video of the sound its very odd its kinda hard to hear over my cracked turbo elbow though :/

Yes got enough oil. I did try an start it today. It hasn't been ran in like a week. I primed it make sure theres oil before starting it. I finally started it then i tried to rev it up after let it warm up for a couple of min's an it barely knocked like it just dissapeared. I also noticed after shutting off the motor. I checked the oil an instead of it dropping the oil was half way up the dip stick. Im thinking that possibly an oil passage somewhere is blocked creating way to much oil pressure an the knocking is coming from wherever its not getting oil.

You have to be a little more precise about where the sound is coming from...get a screwdriver, listen and search for the noise first. You'd have a better idea finding what it's coming from by where it's coming from.

I've had alternator bearings go that sound just like rod knock at low rpm.

what kind of oil are you runningMobil1 10-40. Also Ill try the screw driver an see if I can pin point where its coming from exactly.

Change the engine. I had a sr that had the same issue, it lasted forever and refused to blow up.

Timing chain tensioner? Do you still have the upper guide in place?
