View Full Version : Front suspension making loud creeking noise

When I go over a small dip or a speed bump not slow enough, my front makes a really loud creeking noise. I thought it was my shocks at first, so I replaced my stock shocks with kyb agx adjustables and I bought new eibach prokit springs, and I even replaced a bar in the front of my car where the bushing was worn out. It's been 2 weeks since I've had this setup, and my front still makes the loud creeking noise. Anybody have any clue as to what's wrong, and what I need to replace to stop the creek? Thanks.

Might be your t/c rod bushings are worn.

I've experienced the same problem since I purchased my car over a year ago. Usually only happens in cold weather though. It'll be interesting to see what happens to your car...I plan on setting up my suspension identical to yours - eibach pro kit + kyb agx.

yeah, I'm not exactly sure what's making the creeking noise. The shocks/struts didn't make it go away.

I got the same problem with my front suspension. I'm pretty sure it's because i'm getting metal on metal contact from the spring and strut. I'm guessing this is it because when I first put it in it was fine, but after it started making noise I found that the rubber wrapped around the spring was coming off. It's also shaving the rubber off since the spring is a little wider than the strut holding it.

I get the same deal in the cold weather. I have put my car on a lift and looked up at the front suspension and I couldnt find anything. Well if its not broke dont fix it. However the noise is very annoying, anyone else have any ideas?

I have a 97 240sx, replaced the suspension with koni yellow and eibach pro kit. Have the same problem with the sound. Then i thought it is the t/c rod bushing. Replaced all bushing with energy suspension bushing (included t/c rod, sway bar, control arms... ) it is still there. Found a plastic wrap on the springs at pdm-racing.com that might help with the problem. Well, haven't ordered it but if i do, will let ya all know.

inner tie-rods.

hmm, where are those? I replaced 2 bars that had a bushing at one end. They connected to the axel. So if that's the bar you're talking about, then it's already replaced and still making the creeking noise.

there's no axle in the front suspension.. Sounds like what you replaced was the T/C (Tension/Compression) rod that attaches to the lower control arm.
Tie-rods connect to your steering rack, and are the rods that actually turn your front wheels. the inner tie-rod is where the tie rod pivots immediately exiting the steering rack.
It is possible that the joint is worn, and is creating a creaking sound when it moves up and down through steep angles slowly....
it was just a guess, as that one of the few moving parts in the front.
How are your ball joints, and upper strut mounts looking?

I have no clue haha. I think I might take it to Orange Nissan and have them take a look at it.

I got under my car and inspected the front suspension today. Looks like the noise is coming from worn out and cracked T/C rod bushings (if i'm correct in guessing which is the T/C rod- connects to the control arm near the anti roll bar).
Not an emergency, but it will have to be replaced in the future.

dont forget the strut mounting insulators, those can be noisy. tc is another component that is noisy if old.

are those the "tabs" on the strut towers sandwiched between the sheetmetal? if so mine are dried out and cracking apart.
