edit you mean like a 'code' as in engine code?
um..i dont believe there is a 'code' for a tranny

IF there is, and i agree with D that there most likely is not, it will be on the sticker on the door regarding all the info about the car such as weight, color, vin, etc...i know in FWD cars you can determine the presence of VLSD from this sticker based on letters and numbers found under the Trans heading..

or possibly on the transmission itself..

what about the R200 and R230 for the diffrentials..i know that is distinguishes the different diameters of the ring gear..but i know i have heard the lingo floating around freshalloy...i am going to dig thru my FSM to see what i can find
