After 4 years of ownership a bittersweet moment has finally come -- Up for sale is my beautifully cared for 1996 Nissan 240SX SE. This car has had a very pampered life, having never seen a drift event and only having participated in three autocross events in its history. All of the factory window glass and paintwork is still intact and in excellent condition. This car has spent its entire life in Washington state and has ZERO rust.
The overall goal of this build was to remain subtle and incredibly reliable, all while having a large amount of power and response on tap. Only the highest quality aftermarket parts were purchased, and where possible rare and streamlined OEM/NISMO parts were utilized.
The car was purchased as an automatic from the second owner in 2004 by a friend, after sifting through a large number of chassis just to find the right one. 240-mania had not yet taken hold, and he almost immediately took the car to RS Imports in Bellingham to have one of the first S14 SR20DET swaps in the area performed. After about a year the car was sold to another close friend who took the car to Erik and Doug at UP Garage to have the wiring harness completely sorted, including wiring the ABS and power-steering idle-up to function properly. The car was driven between Seattle and Federal way for the next three years and never saw anything besides highway commuting.
In 2007 the car was then sold to me, and over the last four years has slowly transformed into the vehicle it is today. As it sits more than $30,000 has been spent, and it was absolutely worth every penny. The only reason that I'm even considering selling is that I'm interested in purchasing a second car, and we only have a one-car garage. If it don't receive an offer near my asking price I'll park the car at a friend's house and buy a new one anyway ;)

S14 SR20DET install (RS Imports; 2004) - $1400
Engine/ABS/Idle-up harness wiring (Erik of UP Garage; 2005) - $600
Bumper/Side Skirts/Valances Paint and Install March, 2009) - $800
Head build/install (cams, valvetrain, head gasket) and bottom end teardown/inspection (Randy of Axiom; May, 2009) - $2600
Turbo installation, hot pipe fabrication, engine mount install (Ray of Garage Autohero; October, 2010) - $850
The only negatives to speak of are that an OEM rear wing was once installed and the factory holes are capped, the AC is not hooked up (compressor is present), and when the car was purchased in 2005 the "Not Actual" box was checked on the title to signify that the SR20DET's engine mileage was not reflected in the chassis mileage. The car does NOT have a rebuilt, salvage, or any other accident-driven title status. According to this link (How to Fix a Vehicle Title | eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_5666308_fix-vehicle-title.html)) the "Not Actual" line on the title can now be cleared by the DMV since the vehicle is more than 10 years old and is officially odometer exempt.
My asking price is $15,000, which is less than half of what's been invested in the car, and below what could be had if all of the modifications were to be parted out. Considering the overall condition of the vehicle and of the modifications themselves you'll be hard-pressed to find better value if your heart is set on an S-chassis.
The following extras are also included with the sale of the car:
-Original window sticker (showing a purchase price of nearly $30,000 in 1996!)
-Original 240SX owners manuals
-Original 240SX floormats
-Nissan dealership 240sx promotional pamphlet
-JDM Nissan/NavaN "Optional Parts" catalog
-Original Nissan press-release photo
-USDM replacement parts catalog on microfiche (as rare as it is random!)
-Enough OEM oil filters, NGK BKR7E spark plugs, and Eneos 5W-30 full synthetic oil for 3 full services (oil and plugs just serviced 50 miles ago!)
-OEM suspension arms still in good condition
-OEM engine mounts still in good condition
-2 full sets of keys with Clifford keyfobs, along with the original valet key
-Original boxes for most modifications
Aside from $15,000 cash, I may consider trades for other cars at KBB wholesale value, adding up to the asking price (clear titles only). I'm not really looking for other modified cars at this point since I don't have the time to go through them to make sure that they're solid before selling them on to someone else (light modifications are okay). I'm also not willing to individually sell any of the parts on this car -- it will sell 100% complete as it stands today.
If you've actually managed to read this far and like what you see, send me an e-mail and we'll set up a time for you to look at the car. Planning on negotiating the price? Bring your A-game, the full asking amount, and be ready to explain to me why it's worth less than I'm asking. This isn't a car for your typical fanboy with JDM drift dreams, but I'm sure if you're looking for a poorly-built 240 with a cracked dash and loads of cheap, knock-off parts there are plenty of people on Craigslist who will sell you one.
8/15/2011 Update!
If the car hasn't sold by the end of the month I'm going to pull the SR20DET motorset and install an OEM S14 KA24DE in its place. All of the suspension, aero, alarm, interior, wheels, and exhaust will stay with the car, and it will be relisted for $9,500.
The motorset will sell with all bolt-ons except for the GReddy intake manifold (Engine, ECU, pre-wired S14 harness, radiator, turbo, clutch, flywheel, transmission, mounts, etc.), and will be relisted for $5,000. Screaming deal considering that there's more than $10,000 into the motorset before labor (nearly $15,000 with labor included), and that all of the work has been done by reputable shops.
The price of the car and engine can be negotiated down by excluding parts such as wheels, turbo, bolt-ons, etc. I'm also willing to give you a generous $650 credit for your full S14 KA24DE motorset including uncut harness, ECU, radiator, etc. If you live in Oregon or are willing to make the drive I can arrange to have a very experienced group of friends perform the full swap for $600.
In the event that the engine is sold separately additional parts will be available as follows:
APEX'i AVC-R Boost Controller ($500 retail) - $250
NISMO Front Strut Tower Bar ($300 retail) - $150
Cusco Rear Strut Tower Bar ($185 retail) - $100
Innovate LC-1/XD-16 Wideband ($400 retail) - $200
The clock's ticking! 15 days to buy the car as a whole for $13,000 before it's gone forever.
