Um, this is no JDM scene here pal, and you pretty much answered the question yourself. :picardfp:

get a good set of coilovers first, when i was 16 i wasted my money on stupid stuff like megan springs, kyb struts and crappy 6x9s (wish i would of approached things differently in retrospec besides that the other suspension mod ive liked the most are my beefier sway bars enjuku just started carrying isis ones which are mad cheap

Mods do very little and are a "waste" of money unless you go FI. Much similar to your e36 m3

Best mod you can do at this point would be doing a 5 speed swap. I wouldnt waste my money on anything else until you do that shit first and foremost.

Chips for our cars arent worth the money unless you're going FI.

+1 for 5spd, about the only thing the auto box is good for is neutral drops till you blow it up.

Yeah definitely a 5 speed swap if anything, I'd rather drive a 150hp stick than a 300hp automatic. And a 5 speed tranny is probably cheaper than all the mods you listed.

Off topic: why would you go from an e36 m3 to a KA 240?

Intake, exhaust don't bother with a header, some cheap light wheels, 5 speed if you want.(id take a 300hp auto)nice stereo. Ebay has adapter plates to use 6.5" speakers in the doors.

Make sure your car is mechanically sound before you start "modding". Meaning a full scale service like change oil, filters, radiator flush and fluid etc.

Yeah, I've yet to see a 240 with a stock suspension in good shape. Balljoints and tie rod ends are usually a must, aftermarket tension rods are a cheap and effective upgrade. The 240 is a great handling car to learn on. Resign youself to the fact your car is slow. Focus on handling and comfort first. Only use NISSAN oil filters. Its only $8 and I've seen a lot of aftermarket filters collapse. Oem spark plugs, don't waste money on superplugs, they don't do shit except cost an arm and a leg.

^I agree, think about it, much rather have a great handling lively car that is fun to drive no matter how "fast" it is in a straight line, than an OK handling that is "kinda" fast in a straight line. If you want power save for an engine swap or turbo setup, if you want to enjoy the car from a to b get it running reliably and work on the suspension a bit and make sure the engine is reliable.
