Okay so i recently picked up a s13 & it has a few bugs that need to be worked out.
Problem :
Upon test driving it before purchase the car seemed to run great idled fine, drove fine threw the rpm's etc. Once i bought it i was driving it home. all of asudden the car reached operating temp. this is when the problems began.
The Car will hit about 2000 rpm's & then just falls on its face...takes a second then will get passed 2k & seems to be fine but then when i go to hit the throttle it just doesn't respond like it should.
I know ka's aren't anything special but i know they should have some getup & go " my boys s13 used to stick door to door with my gsr hatch"
The car is bone stock minus the 5 speed conversion & a clutch kit.
Still has all the egr stuff, the o2's look new. I changed the plugs.
Previous owner said he did the timing chain guides. I played with the dizzy a little to see if i could find a sweet spot but no spot seemed better.
So my thoughts are either
A.Maf
B.timing issue
C.fuel pump or filter
D.coolant temp sensor "what someone else said"
E.Maybe the dizzy is going?
Only reason this is getting to me so much is cause of how it only does it when it reaches operating temp.
Any response is highly appreciated just trying to get anyone else's opinion or if they have had a similar problem & what was the fix.
Thanks James.
bump for this thread, im still in the same boat, sending it back to mechanic.. -_-

Mine did that when the O2 sensor shit on me. S13 have 1 sensor. Stumbled right off idle, then from 2k to 2.5k. After that it ran fine. If you fiddled with the dist. Then you need to correctly time it. Unplug TPS first. Warm up and time it.

plugged exhaust system?

There is a coolant temp sensor which works the gauge. And a coolant temp switch that sends info to the ecu. Temp switch is cheap, only a few dollars. New O2 sensor and coolant switch should be like $25 the O2 sensor should be replaced every 20k miles. Give it a try.

plugged exhaust system?
Only at operating temp?
Butcher- Thanks ill try it, iv ran almost all my cars with no ecu...few of them untuned & never had a bogging issue someone else said something about the Coolant temp sensor though so i guess ill give it a shot.

yeah, sounds like the coolant temp sensor for the ecu(the one with 2 wires). replace that first before anything else.

thanks seems like thats what everyone says to start with so will do thanks alot guys ill try to find one at my local auto part store tomorrow & give it a shot.

could be part of your egr system. ive had a car that was completely plugged. egr system and the exhaust was plugged.car picked normally at low throttle, but it was constant and not only when the car was at op temps. didnt read that part of your thread.
check the ohm rating on the cts before you replace it. what i've noticed with cts is when they go bad you are unloading fuel. also when you shut your vehicle off after it passes operating temps your vehicle may not start or it will take some time to start.
did you scan for codes?
if you think its your timing, the knock sensor plays a small role in that. most likely not enough to feel completely sluggish tho.
Lets us know if you fix it, I'm going to buy these sensors soon aswell, ill update

Only code that came back was 55.
Car does have all the egr ish so that could maybe be it.
Today I noticed the body harness was showing some wires due to the Prev owners suspension & wheel setup so went threw all that shit cleaned up the wires, & installed the new Cts "16$" problem is still there... Im really starting to run out of idea's...tomorrow i was gonna bypass the knock sensor with a resistor chip to see if that works & since the knock sensor is a pain in the ass to get to with the intake mani on im prolly just gonna go ahead & Delete it all....Sooo I guess ill hit you guys up with another update tomorrow after noon.

Also someone said something about the exhaust being plugged on another forum lol so ill unbolt it & run it open header to see what happens.

O2 sensor.
Was thinking this but when iv had problems with a o2 its been like random bogs, not every time @ the same exact rpm range...but this is my first 240 sooo...could be.

When mine was bad it happened from about 2k rpm and abruptly stoped at 2.5k there was asmall miss right off idle. In first gear didn't really notice it but was in second gear or under heavy load it was bad. My o2 viltage was fine @ idle but when reved it was a sporaddic voltage. I replaced the vac lines and sensors truing to sovve the problem. The po said he just did the o2 so I assumed it was good. Aparently he installed it with channel locks and crushed the side. The crushed side was down so it looked fine.

Have you done a cyl drop test with plug wires and injectors?

after a long hot day got the problem solved...only thing is i cant give you a 100 % answer what it was but im leaning more toward the o2 sensor.
I bypassed the knock sensor & replaced the o2 & the car is running fine now no hesitation & No check engine light.

Good to hear problem solved. Bet it was the O2. Enjoy better gas mileage.
