I was thinking of buying a Seibon carbon hatch for my 240 fast back, and was wondering if anyone could provide some advice/review/tips. Also, can i retain my stock glass from the oem hatch?

and thanks for the help guys, my hatch was hit a while back and i was considering my options of replacement. some i've spoken to said to go stock oem and the other half swear on carbon replacements. I have a 89 hatch with a SR dedicated to grip so i was going for function.

Probably this. Considering the whole point of a carbon hatch is weight reduction, might aswell go lexan, atleast for the hatch.

Its just preference, I bought my car and it was on there with some lexan plexi glass bs, the lexan plexi I guess wasn't taken care of and was yellow and I couldn't see shit out of it, went to a junkyard and bought a hatch with a solid piece of glass in it and swapped it in. Works fine. I'm honestly just not a fan of carbon fiber I mean if your sliding wouldn't you want a little more weight for the rear? Granted it's only 20lbs or so. I don't think it's worth 350+ either. OEM junkyard with glass was 45$.

Yeah that makes sense. I haven't seen too many 240s in my area let alone any with carbon hatches. Figured it'd be a nice look with a bit of weight savings amongst the other areas of the car I've shed some weight on. Thnks for the advice.

the point of the hatch is pretty much to facilitate lexan install without dealing with replacing/installing it to your metal one. The metal hatch alone hardly weighs much, its the glass itself that is heavy.
The carbon weight is just another plus, however it wasn't their direct intention to just make a carbon hatch for glass use.

I had a Carbon Creations one on my car for a while. It looked kinda cool to me at the time, but it was a hassle. I couldn't use the strut lifters with it since they say not to to avoid cracking the carbon, so I had to lift the hatch up and prop it with a broomstick or something. Super annoying, but might not be as bad on a track car that is not daily driven.
If I remember right, there was only about a nine pound difference between the CF hatch and the stock one. The majority of the weight back there is the glass, so it won't really be worth it from a weight standpoint without running lexan. Hope that helps!

If you want to run lexan on a daily, have fun. It scratches so easily and is easily damaged by sitting out in the sun over time. Its not really practical for a daily long-term.

I've always wondered about that. Every time I see lexan on drag-cars, that shit looks hard as hell to see out of... which wouldn't be a problem since drag-cars don't need to worry about seeing behind them...
But aren't there any alternatives to the regular glass and lexan? I thought there was at leat one other... Like acrylic or something...
When are cars gonna start using Gorilla Glass?!? Shit is like the see-thru equivalent of carbon fiber...
