My Ka is about to go. it's SOHC with about 150K on it. Anyways..i found out about this website called www.realnissans.com. They build racing engines out of the KA. For 999 bucks, they race out the cylinder head with a
racing cam,
solid rockers,
mild port/polish,
mild valve job
valve springs and caps. all assembled.

For $1699.00. They build you a race block, which includes
Forged oversized&high comp pistons with rings and cylinder boring
Racing rods bearings and bolts. All assembled.

They are located in New york so another few hundred for shipping. I figure the total will be about 3100. I'd also need to get a better transmission(i'm open to suggestions)

The other option is the SR20 which i figure will be a hair under 3 grand for the swap with a wiring harness and tranny and ecu..bla bla bla you know how that goes.

The KA will be a lot more torquey. It will be way more responsive than any turbo engine. And faster than a stock sr20det. The sr20 will have less hassle.

Another option is the same KA set as above except low comp pistons with turbo which i already have....40mm impeller wheel 3 inch inlet..i need an intercooler, oil fittings, wastegate...and everything else besides the turbo.

Im stuck between 3 chioces. A deciding factor will be my tranmission options with the KA. what else can i throw on it??

Decisions decisions....hmmm...what to do? I know, TURBO that KA man! I mean why not? Far as I know your 5 speedshould be fine, a nissan tech once told me they used these tranny's in the old 500hp IMSA GT 300zx. Some good ol Redline shock proof oil in there would be a nice security. I have never heard anyone complain about bottom end power on a SR motor either. I do know that I had SOHC in my old pickup and it was much torqier than my new Fronty motor which is the KA24DE. You should E-mail the boys at RealNissan also because they are filled with tons of info on both ends of the spectrum. They know plenty of people who have done SR swaps im sure. Good Luck Dude!

I would go with the N/A KA or the Turbo KA setup. N/A would be awesome cus not that many people go that route with some real mods. Turbo KA has been done but not nearly as played out as the SR. I think you will have less hassle with a professionally built KA motor than a junked SR from japan. Go KA whether its N/A or turbo. Just my $.02

What about tranmissions? My tranny has a bad bearing in it and my dad can rebuild it for me. Are there any beefed up tranny components i can buy for it? Are there other nissans that have stronger transmission that are a direct swap or close? How much power can my stock 1990 transmission handle? Thanks a lot

ka/sr trannies can hold a lot of power, like 400+, people who run more than that still dont rebuild their trannies b/c they were fine, so if its a problem just rebuild it w/ oem parts
