Well I am running k-sport springs and agx shocks. I was told that the springs gave approx. a 2" drop front and rear. Although I highly doubt that, this set up is just for the time being. I intend to run this setup for only a year then upgrade to coilovers.

Now the actual question. Because this is a fitment/spring/tire size question I didn't know where to put it. I am running 225/45/17 in the front and 245/40/17 in the rear. According to the tire size calculator on miata.net the ideal rear tire size to match up with the fronts would be 255/40/17, reason being the fronts are the newer set. The fronts seem to fit better.

The rear tires need to change and I was wondering if hypothetically speaking I switched to 245/45/17, which is for the most part a higher tire would it affect the negative space the wheel well has?

Or will it just hoist the car up more. The reason I have this question is because with the same setup I ran 235/40/17 and it filled the front wheel well up more than the newer set which are 225/45/17. I was just wondering if it would do the same for the rear.

Thanks guys

I'm confused, you're worried about what exactly? You're just worried of it not fitting the wheel well?

245/45-17 is overkill...its over 3% larger than what you're supposed to run and I'd be more worried about it having your speedo off.

I was just wondering if a larger profile tire would fill up the wheel well better than a smaller profile tire.

ummm...didn't you just answer that question yourself?

would a bigger penis fill up a womans vagina...or would a smaller penis? hmmmm...maybe different perspective? lol

Well it theory the penis vagina argument seems to address the problem but, I am thinking in regards to the overall stance. Will the size of the tire fill up the wheel well or will it just make the car higher given the ride height is set mainly due to the springs.

According to the tire size calculator on miata.net the ideal rear tire

Miata buddy, this isnt a miata... and "ideal" for what? Go read up on what tire sizing means. Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit)

A 245/45/17 is .65 inches TALLER than a 255/40. Doesnt sound like you care for grip/looks/flushness though so i would stick with a 255/40 because its closer to your 225/45 since you're not supposed to being doing staggered set ups.

Miata.net is my baseline because of the visual aspects of the application. Yes I do care about grip/flushness and looks also. Those are the main reasons why I decided to ask these questions.

Sorry I am running a staggered setup, 17x7 in the front and 17x9 in the rear.

Does the wheel height have any effect of the negative space on the wheel well.

Or is it set due to the ride height?

Very informative website, can I factor the stagger of the wheels to actually see how the would look in reality?

I am sure the stretch of the tire would affect the sidewall height

What stretch? 245 is dead on square on a 9j. It will fill in the the wheel well more but again, you're affecting other shit like the total gearing of the car. You're speedo will be off and make the car look higher. Visually, the overall wheel diameter size difference between the front wheels and the back wheels will look retarded.

But hey, its your car, you can do whatever you want. Figured 245/45-17 tires are usually cheaper anyways for some reason.

im running a 225 45 17 / 255 40 17 staggar.. i believe its 25.1" overall diameter, versus 24.7" stock..

more meat = better ride / smoother ride, less chance of destroying rim when hitting a BS pothole

Can you give me more info on your setup like are your rims 17x7 and 17x9 rears. Also do you happen to have a picture I can use as reference.

I have taken some pics for everyone to reference, I am sure my setup will not be up to the standards of some people but just take it easy there are much better things to come.

Thanks

That is why I have been asking questions for, I figured that 245 would be flush with the tire however it does look like it has a little stretch on it, would 255/40/17 correct the sidewall height difference with the front and back and possible decrease some of the neg space of the wheell well ?

Here are some pictures for reference:-

This is the front, note the differences

Now for the rear, this is where the problems are....

And yes, I am saving for some better wheels and a set of coils.

Thanks
