okay so i think that my head gasket blew today and my single cam has 160k miles so its going to need a full rebuild. should I buy a dual cam and rebuild it or should I stay with the single cam? I know the single cam will be very hard to squeeze power out of it but I’m going to want some more torque with the single. Any advice?
also I think its a head gasket because oil was in the radiator.

ls1 sounds out of my budget... but a good dream

do what YOU want.
You obviously are going to want it your own way.
I wouldnt even bother with paint and coilovers if it were my car especially when the engine is most important.
If its not your commuter car then aim for your dream, dont bother buying a dohc then a SR, then RB, then LS1.
I feel like a damn psychologist.
This is the TECHNICAL thread section not decision making.

I think I would be happy with a dohc but this is going to be my dd as well as weekend fun. How much would it cost to rebuild my single cam because even if I get a dual I’m probably going to want to rebuild it. Also sorry for posting this in the wrong section I should have read it better.

whats the policy on motor swaps in seattle? depends on if you wanna bother swapping in a motor that will get you into trouble.

as long as it has a bill of sale cops dont care just cant be at the street races thats the only time they would ever even consider asking whats under the hood.

well if your sohc ka satisfies you then either rebuild or get a used one. motors are important but if your not looking for too much power then either dohc or sohc will be fine if your gonna get some suspension and paint.

Ive had a car that can haul ass in a straight line but never around corners. Do you think I would be able to get a little more power out of the single for a few more bucks?

there are guys on here that have been ka all the way. anything is possible but finding out what you want to do is the first step....then money. daily driving just get a decent suspension setup

Ive decided to just go with the sohc with a few small upgrades. It will be reliable, cheaper and it will keep my needs for the weekands. This should also keep me happy untill I find the right shell for a track car build:)

I agree but I’ve never rode in a dual cam only a sr and rb25 with 17psi haha it pulled hella! but I dont know if I should do a full rebuild or just the head gasket and a oil/radiator flush. or a whole rebuild.

You could get away with the h/g and fluid flush. Dual cams are so abundant though i would scrap the single and swap it.. You'll learn aLOT about your car in the process

I agree I would learn so much I already have with this 240 and ive barley touched it but im just going to do a fluid flush like you said and a head gasket kit. Learn to drift it and start out the right way then go from there on what I want.
