Well, I got some new wheels the other day, and knew immediately I wanted them a different color. So before I even got tires for them or really looked at them much I ran to my buddies freinds paint shop.

I knew exactly the color I wanted which was a nice deep purple with a little bit of flake in it.

Soo....... Dodge Challenger Purple with flake is the color that I got!
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/prettypurp.jpg

I absolutely love the color, perfect hands down.

So, now that the paint was there, me and my friend went ahead and scuffed my BRAND NEW wheels lol, (cheap wheels so no big deal)

After they were all scuffed up we went ahead and primed them, and after that threw on some primer sealer.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/Prime.jpg
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/primesealer.jpg

So we let them bake in the sun for about an hour or so, (lunch break) and went back down to set up the basement.

Here is our ghetto paint booth lol.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/paintbooth.jpg

Now that the walls are covered sorta, and the car in there was too, it was time to get down to business.

Heres my buddy all excited to start haha.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/happychris.jpg

And another, (remember this was our first real painting adventure, with a paint gun at least, so we were quite excited lol.)
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/painterchris.jpg

After all the work and sweat and getting high on the fumes lol. Heres the outcome.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/naughtydawg63/4purp.jpg

I'm going to be painting the barrels and insides tomorrow. Then they will be getting cleared.

Hope yall like!!

Just a quick question. When you paint your rims, you only want to spray the top part(spoke) correct? Like you dont want to paint the whole thing? Sorry if this question is stupid. Just curious.

Nice! My buddy actually painted his hatch that dodge color!

The car is a little bright for me but its a dope color! Looks real good on the wheels though, I think it makes a better accent color than car color

A. If he prepped them good any GOOD tire shop shouldn't scratch them or they are just complete retards.

B. If a tire shop could mount those upside down I would shit my pants. They would probably get the first bead, but there is no chance in hell the second bead would go and they would probably tear it and then your tire is fucked... Im just saying, works good on REVERSE LIP wheels but not on normal wheels that have a small drop-center twards the face of the wheel.

Mine makes sense, let a car gain attention by details, not painting some wheels a flashy donk color.

People crack me up buying battles, then attempted to paint them to be different. Rice thread much?

Sorry I don't get down with street cars running stupid ass orange/pink/purple/neon/bagofdickflesh colored wheels.

But hey, by all means paint your wheels the color of a unicorn's shit for all I care.

I'm not sure if you proof read your post or what was your thought process while writing this. But you're coming off as a huge fucking dickhead.
If the OP decided to paint his wheels in whichever specific color he wanted, why come and post such an irrelevant and idiotic statement.

It's funny because I seriously read this and felt my IQ score drop by like.....a hundred?:

I'll keep it short and simple... On a street car, painting your wheels random colors that everybody has now-a-days is not making you different/stand out.

I swear the only time I see the word, 'different' on zilvia, it is to defend a shitty car/idea.

Another attempt at being, 'different' with battles. (Funny how only the MB motoring/sportmax kids insist on painting wheels that resemble a coloring book. I blame StanceNation/Canibeat)

Gotta give him some props for actually paitning them, instead of going to WalMart and buying Barney Purple and really making them look like shit.

However I do laugh at the Irony of a TSX on 2 dollar purple wheels.

OP..... make sure you scuff sand the basecoat with 320 or finer since your basecoat and clear coating on different days. If you wait longer than 8hour the base must be reactivated by light sanding or the clear will not stick to it. Tack rag a few times before you shoot your clear coat. Good luck

Quick question, outside all this bickering, are you using that Harbor Freight little purple gun? How did it do for ya? Looks decent enough in the store.

dub40sx
08-17-2011, 11:22 PM
The harbor freight gun isn't TERRIBLE as long as its the HVLP and you are spraying at the correct pressures. In all honestly you can get a nice Sata for fairly cheap online, slightly used or even score a new one.

Just because people hate gross colored wheels I figured id post a pic of my friends wheels Im finishing up.

^ I'm not sure if that little gravity feed gun they sell is HVLP or HPLV but I'm not apposed to spending money on a decent gun, I was just curious b/c everytime I go in there for flap wheels, I see it and wonder if its a total piece of shit or not; lol.

dub40sx
08-19-2011, 07:03 PM
The HVLP one you can get for like $20... and for $20 its not a total piece of shit.

If painting a car don't blame the gun for the shitty paint job though, I see alot of people do that BUT its their first job and they are spraying outside or in a garage. Overspray, dust, bugs, and lack of experience usually lead to the bad result, not the gun it self.

If you are doing small projects and wanting to learn, definitely affordable option!!!!

Maximamike

2 things:

1. Buentellomma is correct, ~300 grit paper is exactly what you are supposed to sand with, especially if you are outside the spray window. You would be sanding for days with 800 grit to get the surface to the proper texture.

2. The little Harbor Freight gun is awesome for a $20 gun. The best part about them is that they are disposable. Paint kicks in gun? Oh well, throw it out and buy a new one. I use them the spray both gelcoat/paint/primer/clear and they work flawlessly when they are used at the proper psi and with dry air. 95% of you the people reading this wouldnt know the difference between a $500 gun and a $20 gun so might as well save some money.

i have used the harbor freight "hvlp" on quick side jobs done in garages and it does good IF you have the skills to paint. you sir are correct most people who have not sprayed much would not do any better with a 20$ vs 500$ gun. if its a once time use its a great deal, if your planning on multiple jobs with it , it would be best to invest in a quality gun.
