View Full Version : Found this in my oilpan... any ideas?

Hi guys,

was busy getting my head back on so I found out i had to take som oilpans off (pita when working on the floor with engine in the car...)
and found this in my oilpan:

Now I dont miss parts from head up sort of say.... but I have no clue where this came from or what it is/was.

Of course I hope its nothing :bite: and I can put hte head back and of we go...but....mhh...

looks like its part of the blocks casting.

almost seems like somebody drilled through the block and that was on the back side and fell off when they drilled through

Yeah, it didnt looked like something mecanical to me (springs/rods etc.) so I hope my bottom is still ok to put the head on. Pistons/cilinders etc. are all ok.

how was your oil pressure when the engine ran?

i found the same thing in my oil pick up.... its been a year now and my dual cam is still running

Could very easily be some old ass casting flash that finally broke free in one of the oil/coolant passages.

looks like its a shaving from where the crank is drilled to balance. I wouldn't worry.

the circlure grooves show the piece was preciously drilled, and since they groove all the way to the center it can't be from any part of your rotating assy. The size of it looks about the the size of the drill bit they use.

That would be a good theory if the Crank was Aluminum.

Just like one of the guys above said, its a piece of aluminum from the machining process that came free. I have seen this before.

pissssss it does look aluminum, fail on my part. The fact that the other side is pitted makes it seem like it wasn't forced off regardless, still wouldn't worry. get that thing running mang!

Ok, nuff peace of mind haha thanx guys!

Gonna get it together today/tomorrow and hopefully have a fun weekend... finaly!

@BnastS13: No idea. Lifted the head during dragevent 2 months back.
