Hey guys I just thought I'd show the latest interior pic of my car.. I just worked on it again for the first time in several months...

I buttoned up my center console, installed the sound sensitive neon strip under the crossover, cut around 2 inches off of my stock shifter and installed that new shift knob, and re-installed my shift boot..

The GTR is still there hehe, until I find a cheap nissan or silvia emblem, its gonna stay so don't give me any grief about it =P

Side note: I expected that cutting metal off the regular shifter would be kind of a crappy way to make a poor man's short throw shifter.. But I have actually been very very pleased with the results..

Other side note: It feels AWESOME to finally work on my car again!

Bing: It's an EMPEG, which is an in dash MP3 player that holds 40GB of music.. Empeg sold the rights to RIO, so now its called a RIOCar.. - http://www.sonicblue.com/audio/rio/riocar.asp - I highly reccomend it, it is an amizing piece.

my240: yeah I love the shift now, I don't feel like I'm rowing a boat anymore.. and you cnt beat the price.. 10 dollar shift knob and 5 minutes with a hacksaw!

rubber: that red button you can see is where my lighter used to be.. It's a Honda S2000 engine start button that is ready to be wired into my ignition as soon as I get off my lazy ass to find out exactly which wires to splice into.. Where the power mirror control was (cant see in pic) is now where my garage door opener button and my switch for my neons inside the car.. I relocated the power mirror thing to the inside of the center consoles storage area..

the pushbutton ignition thing sounds pretty cool. I know they have them on cars and whatnot but i never thought of putting one into a 240. If you ever get it wired and working i'd appreciate it if you posted how you did it. Thanks.

there's a company called Ignited that makes push button starters. Now that's really lazy, but nonetheless innovative.

the interior looks nice, not too bad. great looking deck too. but that GT-R needs to be taken off, there's some Silvia emblems on ebay.

Hey Blue, where you go to get that interior done? like the seats and the door? and How much?? that looks phat.

Thanks Luey.. I did everything in the interior *except* the seats.. I covered the door panels, the glove box, and headliner in white vinyl from Joanne fabrics.. Cost about 12 bucks for the material... The seats were done by a local guy who has an upholstry shop in the Clearwater / Tampa area.. It cost 500 bucks plus tax to get the front and rear seats reupholstered in the colors / design I wanted... The price in my opinion is well worth it considering the quality of work that this guy does..

If you can get your car to the Tampa bay area for the 3-4 days that it will take to do it and want his contact info, let me know.. I recommend him completely.

Hey, just curious, whats all those bolts doing around the GTR emblem?

Holding the housing together =D

Its the first piece I've ever fabricated for a car, and while I am happy with how it turned out, if I had to do it over again I could do a much better job knowing what I do now..

If someone would be so kind, I have a good pic of my interior but need someone to get it on here. I can e-mail the pic to you or send it through aim, msn, yahoo messenger. I have white gauge faces (import intellegence) painted trim with colormatch burghandy paint so it's the same as the cars outside color, and cut custom pieces from aluminum. The one piece is my mounting kit for the cd player and eq and the other is where the ashtray used to be. It now holds 4 toggle switches which were shutoffs for my amps, underbodies, and fog lights. I also made a cool nuclear cutout thing on it.

Hey Blue...I was interested in what kind of audio hookups the Empeg player had...I've been following it ever since it's introduction, what...3-5 years ago or something...When it was like 1300 bucks a piece...I can't believe the price came down so much. Well, my main concern was that it had the RCA outputs for front/rear/subwoofer...how many RCA outs does it come with? Oh yeah...did you get the FM Modulator? If so, I was wondering how that hooks up and if it's an external piece you have to hide somewhere....Thanks!

Teach me man... I want to redo the whole interior of my car in leather, but I am a do-it-yourselfer. I totally want everything from door panels... everything. But I haven't a clue where to start. Anyone know where I can get a tutorial of some kind or something like that? And your interior looks great. I don't mind the GTR emblem, it is just wierd how it is set up. I like the starter, was it hard to install?

OK from what I remember there is a single set of RCA's that you can use in your home stereo.. When it's in the car it docks with the housing and that has RCA's for front and rear.. I'm 90% sure that there is no sub out.. I don't really mind that because I like having my x-over right there anyways..

There is also a built in 20 band parametric EQ that works really nicely.. It can be set as 10X2 for left and right or 5X4 for all 4 corners.. It holds around 14 presets so you can have a few for your car and a few for your house, your friends house, your fiends DJ gear, whatever hehe

I don't have the FM tuner because I don't listen to the radio.. But I can tell you that is just a little box that you have to stuff back in there, it is completely seperate from the empeg, it just plugs in.. It's small enough that it should be able to fit behind all the wires and stuff that are in your dash.. It's controlled through the empeg head unit or remote so you dont see anything extra, it's just there..

I think that the RCA's on the back can be used as aux inputs when its in the car, for a cd player, changer, whatever... And there is a mic input for when they get the voice command working, which I'm sure will be a long time, if ever..

Lemme know if you have any more questions..

Hmm.. If I were you I'd stay away from leather, just because I'm not sure if you could get it to work right.. It isn't as easy to work with as vinyl... Also the cost would probably be wayyyyy up there.. To get a piece big enough for your headliner would be really expensive just by itself I think..

I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive on the headliner, glove box, and door panels.. If I were to do it over again, I'd use contact cement on the door panels because the spray adhesive cant stick well enough to hold the material into the deep pocket where your elbow fits... I got mine to work after constantly jamming my elbow there to stretch the material, but if I had used contact cement I would have never had the prob.. The spray worked great for everything else though.. What you do is spray both sides that are going to be applied together, IE the back of the vinyl and the front of the glove box, let it dry for a minute and then stick them together..

The hardest thing for me, which I still havent done yet, is figuring out a way to cover the sun visors and not have it look cheesy..

If you guys want more detail in how to do this stuff let me know.. One thing I did is keep the fabric on my doors and just covered over it, for a few reasons.. But I'm tired of typing hehe

did you paint or cover your center console?

burgy240
01-30-2002, 11:16 AM
Yes that is correct. I have a 95 se. I drive a beat up 88 300zx in the winter though. Actually, I tried to vinyl the center consol on my 300 today. It didn't turn out so I took it off. I think the vinyl I got was to thick and the adhesiveI used wasn't that great. I was told it was made for leather/glass/vinyl/wood/plastic/etc though?? Bluesix, what type of vinyl did you use. I got mine from Joanne fab also but it was really thick. I saw thinner vinyl there but wasn't sure which to get. Thanks, joe

BlueSix
01-30-2002, 09:40 PM
I used the thinner kind that had just a little tiny bit of cotton like padding on the back.. it's really easy to bend and it not thick at all, but its also not super super thin.. It had a texture to it almost like fake leather..

burgy240
01-30-2002, 11:50 PM
thanks, I used the vinyl that had leather look to it also but it was thick and felt like a pad not vinyl. I'll try again with better vinyl later. thanks!!
