hey all
I want to get some LED bulbs or otherwise bright(er) bulbs in my taillights for the winter (better visibility through blizzards for people behind me)

anyone know where to get these 1156 and 1157 bulbs cheap? The ones on ebay are really expensive.

Or if not LED's something far brighter than stock??

as well, on an unrelated note, would an H3 bulb throw enough heat to melt a plastic housing?

Last time I did a rough test, a 55w halogen bulb burned around 590 degrees at the filament and got the headlight chamber to about 180-200 degrees. That easily hot enough to start decaying most tail lights and signals, dont even bother.

Interesting side-note, most aftermarket signals (for instance, the 91-94 clear signals made by DEPOT) use worse quality plastic for the housing, bulb holders, connectors, etc.. they cannot handle the heat. I've seen plenty of these housings with holes burned through them from people running higher wattage bulbs, whereas the stock housings didnt get burned (just slightly warped). Plus the OEM signals have seals on the harness and better quality bulb holders.

As for the LED plug-in bulb suggestion, I would like to think you are kidding. There IS no brighter than what you have now, unless you invest in some serious LED custom circuitry (hence, the nature of my business). Anything cheap, anything plug-in, is typically good for garbage.

s14;s dont have sealed beam thingies.... u can right away change JUST the bulb, with the s13 you have to change the housing of it so u can switch bulbs...ahh im not good at explaining things

I dont get it

I thought they were brighter...wanted to put them into the turn signals or taillights or running lights or something. But the "krypton gas long life" bulbs I have now would be better?

I had a nice set of these really bright halogen 1156 bulbs once but theyre expensive too. its just for winter driving...snow builds up aroung the taillights and on long trips I get out every so often to clear them but its for safetys sake..

AS WELL

you know the rings that hold in the sealed beam bulbs?? can you get replacements for those? I bent mine, as well, the aiming screws are very rusted and I cant remember how it allgoes together

There are tons of S13 products because I own an S13, and most of my friends and customers own S13's. JDM Rice went from an S13 to an S13, he had my low-profile HID projectors, and with the new car he has the dual LED 96-98 180SX tail lights.

Why dont I have more products for the S14? I dont know. I have not met too many S14 owners who actually want to pay to play, to do things the RIGHT way. We already have LED tail lights, clear LED third brake light, single and dual LED clear sidemarkers, dual LED front turn signals, custom LED corner lamps.. the only thing not listed are headlights.

It appears most people are interested in paying a few hundred bucks for knock off HID retrofit junk. Any TRUE HID conversion with projector work will easily cost over a thousand. I have already taken apart both the 97-98 headlamps and the 95-96 headlamps, both of them can be upgraded (97-98 is a better headlamp though).

If lighting is that important to you, we can help. In the meantime, we're focusing on other cars.
