I figured this was kind of S-Chassis related. If I posted this in the wrong section, Mods please move it.

Yesterday was probably one of the shittiest days I've ever had. Read my blog & you'll find out.

Saying goodbye to the Supra & Silvia (http://rickrhd.wordpress.com/2011/07/27/saying-goodbye-to-the-supra-silvia/)

So you gave up making some money on parting out to instead have the cars crushed because you thought "people were being greedy". Sorry, but that's just fucking stupid.

Dude you article makes it all feel humanized. Which is the same way I look at my skyline. Its my baby. I love her

But I could have never stood there and watched. Well I of course wouldnt have wanted to but all in all I know I would be there to see her off. But that day shall never come *knock on wood*
I can never part from her.

of course you think its stupid. you werent in my position to fully understand. not to mention that customs would give me shit if the cars look like they were tampered with, since under our agreement i was not legally allowed to let any of these parts go. i was going to do trades + cash for parts so the cars looked relatively untouched, but people were throwing that idea out the window.

im not about to get fucked by the US Government over making a quick buck. if you think thats "just fucking stupid", then you're just dumb.

thanks bro. i see you have a 32, so you know how all of this works. trust me, i didnt want to see it, but a part of me wouldnt be comfortable until i was absolutely certain that these vehicles were gone. helps me sleep easy at night knowing that someone didnt try to pull some shit & keep the cars for themselves.

*knock on wood* hopefully your R32 remains yours forever. they're such awesome cars to drive.

You should've just kept them as track cars, or went to a better state to get them registered, or not been a pussy and just drive that shit on the road anyway and fuck the pigs. anyway, i think you handled the situation completely wrong. I dunno man, looks like you weren't man enough to handle a little criticism or to deal with the many, many retards who respond to part-out ads etc. My opinion on this, not really hate, just pissed me off to see this as i wouldn't have done the same unless the feds were at my door about to confiscate the cars or something like that.

cool story bro.

Im not pissed or anything but basically everything your wrote in this post is just straight up stupid. The feds already know you have the cars so there is no way of keeping the cars as a track car or taking them to another state since they make sure the car is exported/destroyed by a certain date, and as for your "drive them on the road anyways and fuck the pigs" its just not worth getting yourself locked up prison for a car thet know everything about (its like running from the cops after giving all your info). There were no "part out ads" and all of it was done word of mouth and by the way it sounds if he did post a part out thread you would have been one of the retards that would drive him to just crush the car

Quoted for the truth. I feel for you Rick, I would have done the same.

I don't think it would be the same to buy another S15. There was history behind the first one. Getting another would just feel weird, as if you just bought a Civic or something else as generic.

OP, it's admirable that you had the cars crushed. It clearly seems to have been the most logical and least problematic route to take.

You could have very easily sold those as track cars. You obviously didn't make much, if anything at all, off of them by crushing them, so selling them for a measly 2-4k would have promised a quick sale and some extra cash. It's not illegal to register an imported car as a track car, so the feds knowing he had them would have given him no troubles at all. As far as buying one in the future, I agree with Mikey above, but I also look at it from the same stand point as S Koreas view on pedophiles. If you don't know, they now chemically castrate them so they can't do it again. You crushed a beautiful car for no reason, you shouldn't be allowed to buy another one. That's just my opinion. The people getting all uptight about it can get over it. At the end of the day, you won't change my mindset and both of us are going to think our personal opinion is right and everyone else is wrong

wow, damn man....that really really sucks to hear, i'm hurt just reading it....but yea, understandable i guess but i still can't believe that you decided to crush them, regardless of money and what not from parting the car out, you could have given the car a different type of life by parting it out and letting the parts live on....lol, just rambling but damn, sucks man

yep that's us. Felix, one of the other head hancho's at Fatlace, also bought a Ken & Mary from me. Also, the Ken & Mary they're giving away at the Fatlace Klassik was purchased from me as well. they're good guys & i still keep in contact with them.

You should've just kept them as track cars, or went to a better state to get them registered, or not been a pussy and just drive that shit on the road anyway and fuck the pigs. anyway, i think you handled the situation completely wrong. what you fail to understand is that these cars were brought for petition use ONLY. meaning they're here for research & the feds KNOW we have these cars. i'm not going to bother to explain it to you in detail because probably wont give two fucks about it & believe that your logic is right & mine is wrong. apparently 3.5 years in the business doesn't mean shit when someone like you knows everything. as for not being man enough...crushing an S15 & a Supra to keep my ass out of handcuffs isn't man enough? clearly i showed the integrity to go through with such a difficult decision, something you wouldn't be man enough to do. get the fuck out of here with that nonsense.

cool story bro.

word. glad to know some people see it for what it is. hopefully in the future i can try the project again. just requires a shit ton of cash flow.

...i wonder if my unemployment checks can cover this project. hahaha.

I don't think it would be the same to buy another S15. There was history behind the first one. Getting another would just feel weird, as if you just bought a Civic or something else as generic.

thanks man. and you're right...another S15 wouldnt be the same. i can come across them a dime a dozen, but it's still not the 1st S15 i ever drove. too much sentimental value that can't be replaced.

Damn thats a shitty ending..

yeah, it pretty much sucks. :(

Dam about to shed some tears for you... By the way stop trying to explain yourself to people on here your a grown man that had to make a tuff choice plus i bet getting a couple of bucks is the least of your concerns.

amen! the money is the least of my problems. i wouldnt risk hefty fines & possible imprisonment over some parts.

This is horrible. Im pretty pissed. Funny thing is, this is the same way i felt when i watched videos of chinese people skinning animals alive. I want those fuckers to die. Shit i woulda stolen that shit and changed what i needed to make it seem like it was a kouki converted to rhd and what not. Theres always ways to make things work. I cant say i woulda done the same. I possibly would have paid the 2gs to show it was being imported to someone you know in japan, but never actually send it that way the heat is off your back haha

i had guys in Japan that were willing to hold on to the cars for me, but i didnt have the money to cover all of the expenses. plus, it was super short notice, so i had to do what i had to do. :(

OP, it's admirable that you had the cars crushed. It clearly seems to have been the most logical and least problematic route to take.

Would've been slightly cooler if you did some crazy burnout before you said good bye to them, but that's just the ricer in me.

i could have easily gotten these cars registered elsewhere, but as i said, these cars were brought it with government approval for petition. they know the VIN numbers, they know where they are & who brought them in, they have all of my personal information, fingerprints, company info, etc on file. just too risky.

i could have used them as a track car, but under government guideline, they would have to leave the country on a container back to Japan, then brought back in under the correct paperwork. i dont have the money for that.

it's not me making these awful decisions, it's just me following government orders so i can keep a good reputation with them.

very sad story, the US is getting stricter and stricter over imported cars, like that crazy skyline seizure thing over in california a few years ago. gota gota have money to actually legally own a car like that over here....sadface

i would rather have seen it up and running somewhere else tho, even if shipping it off and auctioning it or something didnt make much of the money back, but thats also coming from someone who is pretty broke and not really understanding those costs lol

im noobish on this whole import business but you couldnt sell it to another import/export company over seas in another country? or would that have not been worth it

we seriously contemplated getting them shipped out to another country, but what really killed us was time & finding a customer that was willing to cover all of the expenses & still pay us for the car on top of that.

also, the S15 needed a bit of body work. someone thought it would be cool to key the entire left side of the car. :(

These were mass produced cars. If I were to go to a busy street close my eyes and throw a rock, chances are I would hit either a skyline or a big toyota sedan with a 1jz in it.
They aren't rare cars, they just didn't make it to America. I've seen and heard of people junking them because they didn't want to have to pay for jci before they PCS'd or didn't want to go through the hassle of selling.

Were you not able to keep the supra? I thought because the name "supra" was made in the united states? Thought that's how they did it with Honda/Acura cars, also it's funny how we can't have these cars on US soil but the Japanese engines pass customs all the time, lots of those were not made in the US.

OP I respect what you had to do, I'd probably do the same if I was in that position, these "kids" don't get it, the federal government arent like your local state government, you will go to jail, driving the car taking any parts from those cars, and I was reading someone saying they would have made it like a different car with a "conversion" are you an idiot? Re-tagging a government vehicle? These were not legally the OP's cars they still belonged to the government/customs that's like taking a Chicago police car, leaving it looking like a police car, changing the vin number and telling the city of Chicago it was your car when you get pulled over.

OP sucks you couldn't keep your cars and your job, maybe one day we all can have our dream cars in our garages legally.

in all honesty, i was expecting a lot more people to give me shit, but surprisingly that wasnt the case. im amazed at how level-headed the S-Chassis community is over situations like this, versus the Civic/Integra kids who would have ran their mouths. i'm originally from the Honda scene (Accord, specifically. we dislike Civic/Integra owners. lol), so to see how some of you guys kept it cool really gives me a good vibe & makes me happy that i joined this community.

to all of the people who understood why i did what i did, i give you my sincerest "thank you's". i'd buy every single one of you a beer if i had the chance.

to the rest of you...well, i have nothing else to say to you.

Your argument is invalid.

but to the op. No one is gonna understand how you feel and the decisions you had to juggle with until their in your shoes. Don't worry about the haters, you did what you had to do and that feeling would be something I couldn't bare. I know this saying might contradict my earlier post, but I thought about it and wondered if I was in your situation. It would be tough, beats being in jail that's for sure, trust me, ive been there. Not pleasant at all.

If anything I would buy you a beer, seeing that I cant, Ill down a 40 for you.

Let this be a lesson to all. If you have an imported car, be sure to always have enough funds to have it exported out of the country if need be. It's a shame, too bad you couldn't save one of them.

California is turning out to be one shitty place to live at times, all these laws for emissions, all these standards, everything they do to control you in one state yet were still in debt, still not looking at anything positive yet, cali makes me want to move out more and more. Such pointless strict laws that honestly do no good for the most part.

I do apologize for you to have to crush the cars, understanding why you did do that over tracking or spending the other money to just only drive on a track. Eventually down the line, you will find something bigger and better out there, it's all a matter of time, best of luck from now on out, hopefully you will be working for another company soon that is somewhat similar to what you currently did.

Cheers,
Best of luck

I dont understand why this thread is so sentimental

You said you imported the vehicles with the attempt to have them legalized. This means they could have even been used for crash testing, unless the shop had other donor cars available for that same purpose. You put your money up and imported them based on that, but now, due to unfortunate circumstances the shop is closing. Your only option now was to either export or destroy. You didnt have any real/polite offers so you chose to destroy.

I personally dont see what the big deal is.. 2011 and everyone needs to put their life into a blog, its all about attention. Bad enough your blog doesnt get enough hits, now you wanted to post or share this on Zilvia.. did you post it on SupraForums too? Might as well, who knows.. maybe you'll meet more sympathetic emo car owners. You guys can sit by the beach and talk about the good times, the bad times, all the times you spent sitting by your car in the garage... or the 3 times you drove it.

If I was in your shoes, I would have exported the car with a quickness and reduced your losses.

Government = 2
You = -2

I should have asked to drive when I had the chance, the seats were so comfy :[. sorry for your loss rick! at least you still have the accord!! I feel the supra could have been saved with american saffety glass and an american bumper support then reinspected, but im not in cali, nevada you would have been probably good, that and an american supra motor with emissions stuff <<, would have been legit as a kit car here. I look like a bum in that pic too :D

I think I saw that supra on the 60W a few weeks ago. I texted wes (black sc on ame's) since he's a friend of mine and he told me it, along w/ an s15, would be getting crushed and I cried a bit inside. But hearing this story, it sounds like it was a decision that had to be made and I respect the actions that were taken. Kinda wish the gov't would take the money spent on filing all these papers and use them to fix the damn roads.

I agree at the end of the day it's just a car. I understand why you made your decision but I don't understand why you chose to make this so public. Also people getting so torn up over an s15 is retarded. The people saying they teared up amazes me. It's not even your car. There's gotta be a million of those crappy nissans over in japan, get a plane ticket and enjoy one. Fact is, you can't legally drive one here unless you defecate hundred dollar bills. I can't believe all the people saying "dude you should have driven it anyway." What an attitude. Then when guys get busted doing this stuff it's "total bs." I don't view the government as the evil on that issue at all. The car was never made for U.S safety standards and isn't deemed safe for U.S road use. You can't change that nomatter how much you disagree with it. I feel like you could have found a loophole law for atleast track use but that argument is moot as the cars are now destroyed. I'm not calling you out on what you did, it was your property. I just think it could have worked out to benefit you financially given enough thought.

You can't change the bond EVER. Would have to ship it back and then re-import it on a different bond. The OP already said he didn't have the money to do this.

Provisional is different from Show/Display is different from Off Road/Track.

:cj:

He didn't plan on completely parting it out, from my interpritation, he planned on swapping OEM s13/s14 parts. Not a WHOLE bunch he could have swapped, and from the time frame it sounds like the return vs time wasn't worth it to him based on the headache all the potential buyers were giving him.

Have you dealt with the average 240 dumbshit owner?

You can post a car for sale that runs, and get messages about some kid wanting the #2 piston, a kid trying to get you to part out the clutch, or something like that.

I could only imagine the emails/messages that he was being given.

You could have just sold the stupid thing.
FYI, you said sell the whole thing, he couldn't sell the whole car, hence why I quoted you and told you that he legally couldn't.

Look at it this way....The OP allowed them to be crushed simply because he's a bad ass and can crush you w/ his wallet. The end

I eventually ended up getting a 1994 n-a toyota supra and im more than happy with it.. but ive always wanted to have an RHD supra... poor car

but it was a '99 spec r haha, those are rare enough even in japan unmolested even so lol yea, their still worth on average like 25k over there

No, they aren't, not at all. I'm sure one with 10k km might go for that much, but not your average stock Spec-R. Most of them go for anywhere between 800k-1.3mil, even with today's record low exchange rate, that still isn't anywhere near $25, that would be ~$10k-$17k.
