grand prix GTP with the 240 hp V6, no contest.
there's three engines offered on the grand am...
2.2 Twin Cam 4, 140 hp, 150 ft lbs
3.4 V6, 170 hp, 195 ft lbs
3.4 RamAir V6, 175 hp, 205 ft lbs
coupes weigh about 3000 even, sedans are close to 3150.

ok, the thing here is not about HP or torque, it's about weight. my mom has a 95 grand prix, 3.4L engine V6 i believe, 160hp ish... but that mofo weights 3600 lbs! and i try to drive hard in that thing, 0-60 time is around 10 second, i said aroud 'cause i counted myself... but for sure, that is a slow car...

There is a guy up here who has a grand prix with 400hp... it boots at the track. this weekend I got smoked by a new intrepid r/t... I got a bad start but was surpirsed to see him pull away with my foot in it... #### the power of these new family sedans.

just my 2 cents. i think this is kinda funny, and suprising. a friend of mine totalled his jeep and got a Pontiac Grand Am for his rental car. anyway, he thought it would be funny to take it to Cecil County Drags, a local quarter mile track, and run it. he got the v6 model, but i dont think it was a gt. anyway, to get the main point, he ran a 15.3. this car was a stock RENTAL CAR. so, i dont think a mostly stock 240 could run with one when it comes down to it. im quite ashamed of that, but oh well. thats what the srwap is for, hehe. oh, and the worst part, he raced a 240sx that was modded.....it ran a 15.9. 240's are slow guys, dont think our cars are fast. they arent unless you have turbo or an srwap. face the facts my friends.

Lol... you OBVIOUSLY don't know about Pontiacs to say thats the only thing he has to worry about. A firebird would whoop a 96 240's ass.. Let alone a FireBird Trans am. You said an older one? A 79 Firebird Transam came with two engines, the larger being a 6.6 <---- I SAID 6.6 Liter v8. You have no change against any firebird if you are auto, period. Sorry. And 240's are fast, but so are all the Pontiac GT's.. Grand Am GT (you're peaced) Grand Prix ... you're peaced... Even the new Sunfires have a good change at you... What you need is a 5 speed then we can talk.

Stop comparing new cars to our old ones. We are no match to most new age sedans...
Yeah i agree most firebirds would beat us. But about the Grand ams GTPs.... a 2000 GTP runs 1/4 in 15.1.... no match here. But if you look at a 1996 GTP it only does 15.9 <- now there you can try to compete somewhat. Grand Ams are a close race too, but you can beat them if you are a good driver... you gotta have the same tranny though most likely. Cuz there is a huge difference. And i gotta agree that our cars are really slow stock.... I'm sick and tired of seeing all these family cars pull away from me. Bad thing nissan never put a V6 in our cars. But oh well. Still got srdets and kadets
And i'm sorry..... but where did you found 1995 grand prix that weigh 4300 or even 3600 pounds??? The heaviest i found was 3300...

Maybe I'm missing something, but I wouldn't really look at a 240 from a straight line standpoint. I mean, I know thats how alot of people judge cars, but I don't think thats what these cars were intendend for. :::throws in two cents:::

dude wtf are you talking about....i never said anything about a god damn firebird...no shit itll beat a 240. and no a sunfire wouldnt do much to a 240. you got me on one that i dont know too much about pontiacs but any pontica grand prix w/e bullshit w/ the supercharged engine will beat a 240. the other n/a engines dont have much of a chance. not to mention that i dont recall any 5spd pontiac sedan thingy ma bobers.

I am not the best shifter in the world, but I took a 97 grand prix V-6 (not the ram air shit), had him by about 1.5 car lengths by the time I hit 90 and had to turn off. It would be an interesting race to see how an auto would fare......
(oh, I have a 95 base, 5-spd, stock at the time)

Any modern Pontiac V6 car would beat an auto 240, as would a manual Sunfire GT.
