spacers for wheels (what size, width, offset are they anyway?), coil-overs (what suspension are you running now?), engine mods (do you have any?), driving skill?..do some track events..learn to drift..or grip..or whatever tickles your fancy..

what do you want out of your car?..show?..go?..track?..pose?..1/4 mile?....

If it were my car i'd do as follows:

-New kit all the way around
-suspension
-new wheels (or at least put spacers on those ones!!)
-ditch the wing

That's a good place to start if you're going for looks.

get some spacers, and paint your car pink.

CoasTek240
11-11-2003, 06:10 PM
personally i dont like the kit(not horrible, but not my taste), it doesnt seem its the taste of too many other people on the board, but obviously you like it since you bought it and put it on your car.
It is you car, and you opinion is most valuable.

if i were you i'd slap on some spacers 'till you found a nice set of wider rims. i'd look into suspension(either coilovers or shocks and springs)

what do you look to accompish with the car? go from there. have fun, be safe.

Isn't that kit a Nismo or a replica? It looks decent, just get some nice flush wheels and dump it on the ground with some good suspension. Oh yeah, ditch the wing!

Strider
11-11-2003, 09:35 PM
Well, I like it =) i don't think its that bad.

Its clean, NOT to wild. But, yah. I would have gone with another kit. But hey, if you like it. Thats all that matters. Bigger Rims and make them flush, and your good to go.

And on another not, atleast your doing SOMETHING with your car, unlike some people who just talk about getting this, and getting that and never actually do it. So i give you props.

My suggestions:
Wheel spacers all 'round and negative camber up front (so that you can't see the front of the sideskirt looking straight down the side of the body), lower it another inch (as long as you don't cut springs, I don't care how you do it) ... hmmm what "mods" do you have on it now? i doubt ur a better driver then sykik, just based on what i've read on this forum. and you're right, there's nothing wrong with having a fixed up car; but plz understand that people's defintions of 'fixed up' can differ wildly. i think what sykik was getting at with the stock comment is that some performance parts 'cover up' driver error, so even though they may improve performance, in the long run you won't improve as a driver; and ultimately that is the only thing that you take with you. btw your car looks ok, i'm not a fan of body kits or rims even; and personally i think it doesn't look 'different', rather it looks the same as every other 'hooked up' car out there. as for mods, im guessing you don't have any intention of actually racing... so what's the point, right?

i managed to get thru that without using the 'r' word once. i'm so proud of me. btw you guys are gonna scare her off with all this talk of nakedness.

I think anything is possible.. you could definately be a better driver than me. I'm by no means a professional. I've got a good bit of practice, and professional training, but I don't actually race, so I lack a certain amount of experience.. :D

I think you just misunderstand us.. Many 240 drivers revere the driving experience over the actual car. The 240 in stock form makes for an excellent platform to learn from as a beginner, and a serious weapon with minor upgrades in the hands of someone with the proper skills. That's why I say "revert to stock".. it's easier to learn that way. Car's with all kinds of aftermarket suspension goodies will get a novice into trouble much faster than a stock suspension.

There's nothing wrong with having a cute car. I was simply giving you my opinion on what I would do with it. I appologize if I offended you, that was not my intention.

or, you can just not care what other people think and be happy with your car the way it is (or the way you'd like it to be). there are probably more than a few on here who think your car doesn't look bad at all. it just so happens that the people who post the most often are the ones who are the toughest critics.

So long as you enjoy the car, keep the way it is. Just look for more ways to enjoy the car (I highly suggest driving it on a twisty road as fast as you can safely).

Everyone's car here varies in appearance, not all are stock, not all are clean -- dont generalize. Besides girlie, talking on a forum is not about "getting respect," thats the kind of bullshit you see on super large forums like the Maxima or Accord forums.. we're not about that. Even though NISSANs *have* been gaining popularity, there are still old-schoolers like me who put fourth effort into keeping the community friendly. These forums should be about discussing about the car and getting to know other enthusiasts. I know people with cars WAY less attractive than yours which are poorly fixed up. You have to understand, cars dont get you respect.. your character does. I know many examples of people with very modified cars that are complete assholes -- dont let the image fool ya.

The way I see it, I fix up my car because it gives the car personality.. the same reason I modify anything I own, from my car to my apartment.

i only made the comment about putting my car back to stock because everyone seemed to be telling me to do that. i dont see anything wrong with a person wanting respect for the work they have put into their car. i'm not asking for respect, but i would rather have respect then ppl telling me my car looks like a piece of shit. there are so many threads of ppl posting pics of their car because they want to show others what they have accomplished. like i've said before, i've also been around cars for awhile and i am not one of those kids that is into 240s because it's the next new thing. i didn't just go out and buy one and have someone drop in an sr20...i actually have put some work into my car instead of paying someone to do everything for me.

You know, I give you props, ur car is good looking and you obviously have a lot of work into it.. dont listen to these guys, its YOUR car.. and should represent you as an individual, if your happy with it, thats all that matters.

I dont post pictures of my car on the forum because I have no interest for public criticism. Right now, my car is completely INCOMPLETE and missing way too much to even be judged. Even if it IS done, I wont be showing people because I have no care for what complete strangers are going to say about my POS.

The only people I show pictures or share information with are my close friends. Many people think the forums are a place where you SHOULD share information, which is not completely true. I think its good to make friends and help others, but as a car enthusiast who tries to innovate and perform difficult modifications, the LAST thing I care to do is see many other people having the same modifications as me.

When I first saw the picture you posted of your car, my first impression was "oh.. well, it looks okay.. has its share of body kit stuff that I would never do, but not bad." I didnt pay much attention to the fitment, because I know just about MOST body kits I've seen for the 240SX fit like crap unless you really take the time and effort to do it right. Which of COURSE, most 240SX owners DONT do because they are broke asses. Unless of course, they paid big bucks to import a GOOD kit and not mess around with all the chinsey crap being sold out here locally (ahem, VIS). So regardless of what people say, the most important person to please is yourself.

I have owned my S13 hatch since 1996 and have been modding it since around then. It was SOHC KA auto for over 7 years, I had no care what people thought because I was more concerned in learning my car and focusing on more important things like car control. While most newer 240SX owners appear to be impressed with fancy brands and complete excess in spending money on aftermarket parts, the important thing is to focus on enjoying your car and doing it right.

If people dont necessarily like your car, dont take it personally. The reason most old-schoolers on here WONT like your car is because its NOT to their liking. Amazingly enough, the cars that impress people here are NOT the ones with fancy paint and tons of expensive modifications. People get respect for being badass drivers and nice people. The people *I* personally respect the most, are the ones who's cars look amazing due to all the time and custom work they put into it. Custom fabricated, rare parts very much impress me. But then again, if the person is a dick I wont even bother looking or judging their car.. they get no respect from me.

Want to get respect, make friends with the people here and you'll have no problems. I mean seriously, not that Nadine and Benson are major role models or anything.. but they are pretty well known and liked by many (including myself) in the 240SX community. They are good people. Sure, their cars arent perfect show quality.. but thats not the point, their cars are quite acceptable and easily make most 240SX enthusiasts proud when they see their cars.

If I saw Nadine or Benson driving on the freeway and I was with a friend driving in my car, I would say to my friend "You see that, that is a 240SX done right." :)

That is probably the most intelligent thing I've read on a car forum in a long long time.:werd:

I'll re-emphasize a striking point:

so i guess i should go hide my car and only show my close friends pictures of it. how do you "help others" by not sharing information and giving your thoughts on different products you have used or have on your car? usually people go on the forums for information, help and other people's opinions. some people take pride in their car by knowing they aren't the only ones who like it. yes, i don't have the money to get a "good" body kit. would "good" be defined as a name brand or "fancy brand?" i think many people are impressed by "francy brands" because most of them are of higher quality than others like "vis." like i said before, i'm not asking for respect. i was saying respect for the work i've done would be nice. yes, i did ask for people's opinions, but i wasn't expecting it to be so harsh. i shouldn't take it so personally, but i am the one that has made my car what it is. it must be a girl thing so i should probably go to some other forum. i do think nadine is pretty cool, but i don't know her so i can't say much else. i only know what i have read in magazines or heard from others.

you know how we like our "fancy" things...

hey take it easy though, most of the people on here are gonna give you a hard time. half the time its b/c they're playing around, the other half is b/c they are just DICKS. dont try and argue over petty SHEIT. if you know u like ur car, then stick by ur guns. it shouldnt matter what other people think. as for gaining respect--be yourself, browse the forum, take information, help when you can. you'll find people like other people who are nice. its just like kindergarten here.
and sometimes you're gonna get some bad critique, implore all you want about it, but then leave it alone, it is there opinion to have--you have yours, right?
well hope you stick around. later

yah my mouth has been known to get me into trouble. i just can't stand smart ass dicks. ive started to notice a lot of other threads turning into arguments that are pointless like this.

thanks to all of the ppl who have given me some good and positive feedback.

it's kinda funny because my car got so much positive feedback when it was posted months ago by a guy.

i'm just going to leave it at that and hopefully this thread will start to die out. i'm done stooping to other ppls levels. :)

Woman, is there ever an end to your incessant whining? Its a fucking car, the point is to enjoy it and pick up as much information as you can off of these forums. If you think people are online to spoon feed you advice and sugar coat what they think about your car then you should go to another forum.

Maybe I should post a pic of my car so people can RESPECT me. Maybe I should just sit here online posting "do it yourself" install articles for everything that is custom. What about having skills? What about being able to innovate and do something without a manual or someone telling you how? Maybe thats one way you can get respect, by learning to be original and not upgrade your car with Cracker Jack prizes.

Some of the people I respect the most in the 240SX community have ZERO modifications, maybe I should look down on them.

My thoughts exactly. Whining is for losers and you don't want to be a loser...... nobody does.

SMG,

Who twisted your tit to make you post a picture of your car ?
NOBODY

SO please, take the good and the bad .. Cannot please everyone.. just yourself, so if you are happy with the effort and work you put into the car, then good for you, that’s all that matters.... in the end, we're all going to die :)

BTW, the car looks tacky ... color of the car and the clear turn signals look cheesey, the wings doesn't flow with the car, the rims look too plain and the "body kit" looks to be of very poor quailty.

SMG,

Your car looks fine. I've seen people with the Veilside "sucker fish" kit get bashed less than you.

If it were my car here's how I would improve the current looks:

-adjust the front bumper so the gap between the hood and the bumper is consistant and minimal. You might need a shop to do this.

-Get some lowering springs (sportlines + aftermarket struts)

-20mm spacers for the front

-no wing in back

-paint the roof black
