View Full Version : Need Help: CA18DET Wiring at ECU Plug

I'm working on a CA18DET swap into an s13 and have an engine harness that has had a modification made to it. Near the ECU plug there is a connector soldered in. It has 5 wires going into it.
Thick blue/red stripe
black
white
blue/white stripe
grey/red stripe
The grey/red stripe wire goes into the ecu plug and the rest of the wires go with the rest of the wires "towards the engine bay". There is no "other side" of the grey/red stripe wire coming "from the engine bay". I know there is no blue/red stripe wire that is supposed to come out of the ECU plug and that the blue/red stripe wire going over to the dash harness isn't a heavy gauge wire.
I'm not sure why that clip was soldered in but I need to erase it and bring the harness back to its original condition. Besides that clip there are no other mods made to the harness.
I am looking for any assistance in identifying these wires so that I can get them routed correctly. If anyone can help at all, please do. Thanks in advance!

^^^^^^ what he said...
The plug is for dash cluster wiring . The wires are same color code so all you have to do is match and splice. Most likely the JDM plug on your harness is diferent and will not plug in to your USDM harness, plug located under dash behind glovebox , need to look up usually brown connector. cut your Ka dash connector off and splice it in to your ca harness .

sorry I didn't mention it earlier but this is not the dash cluster wiring. If i were to take a picture from further out you would be able to see the dash cluster plug coming off to the side.

I'm pretty sure this was a custom installed plug. On the KA harness there is no corresponding/matching plug in the same location near the ECU plug. I also can find no reference to a thick blue/red strip wire that should be near the ECU plug. I haven't checked with a multimeter but I will bet that the blue/red stripe will trace over to the ignition switch..just a guess. I can tell these wires were not custom run/routed wires as they pass through all of the factory plastic wrapping and zip ties. Which means they were cut right there near the ECU...hrmm

look at the ca pinout to find where those wires are supposed to go.

the white wire is usually the FR ABS sensor wire. check if it runs in the ECU plug or into the engine harness.

the problem is...there is no blue/red stripe wire that goes to either the ECU plug or the dash wiring harness. so I dont know where Im supposed to look for the blue/red stripe wire. if there is no blue/red stripe wire that goes to either the dash wiring harness or the ECU then where does that wire go?

the white wire goes into the engine harness. the interesting part is that there are no dangling ends on the ecu plug side....you would think there would be dangling blue/red stripe,white,black..etc wires hanging off of the ecu plug
