Nissan consult obd1

So I hears this is good for viewing timing/obd codes and whatnot? I'd like to mess with my timing as I just did the chain guides and tensioner and I believe I'm off a bit. So are these worth it?

no. if your timing is off redo the job correctly.

it is done correctly and may be off by a hair, it idles fine.

so does anyone have an answer about the consult

You have to sync your timing, with the consult software. Meaning your timing has to be right first. Fix your mechanical first, set base timing, then get the cable and software.
IDK about that specific cable and software but i do believe consult is a valuable tool!

I use Nissan Data Scan with a Blazt cable. Works fantastic. Logs al important sensors and generally has been a very useful tool for me.

You can also use Conzult with the Cable if you want, but I've simply used the NDS and really liked it.

In regard to the mechanical timing, there is only one way to do it right, and zero way for it be off a hair. Set it up per FSM, and then once you stab the cas just verify it lines up correctly or close. 9/10 it's always within 2 degrees either way (adding aftermarket cams sometimes changes it) so then you take a timing light and turn the cas to make sure it's right.


Cheap/Easy way to check timing (although takes some common sense):
Hold timing light on crank, rev motor by hand (throttle body pulley) to like 3 or 4 k. YOu'll see the timing 'mark' move all around but then just before the engine returns to idle it'll stabilize. When it does this, you'll want to turn the CAS until the 2nd mark from the left (yes the left, this test involves you using 0*) with the mark. Rev it up again and again and watch as it comes back down idle and you'll see it verify the mark with the 2nd mark from the left.

This can be done without the engine in timing mode, or TPS unplugged or any of that, but it uses the 0* mark instead of the 15* mark that you'd use in the traditional way.

That is for OBD 1 or first gen Consult connector. If your timing is off you need to make sure that you installed it correclty and then check timing with a gun and adj at the dist.
