I thought the mail delivery comment was kinda funny, I don't think he is serious, i guess if he is do you think you could swing by my place and drop mine off :D, but to answer your question I am not really sure about the RHD conversion....it's gonna be really pricey, unless he has another 240 for parts? I don't know I personally would leave it LHD and have something different than everyone else. thats just my .02

spend on money on something else, converting to rhd is the dumpest thing you could do. why would you do that when you can spend the money on neons and quadruple deck alumimum wing...or have you thought about rebuilding the twin towers on the back of the car......or a building from japan, so the car would be jdm

Sarcastic comments aside, have you ever considered pulling off the dash board to see whats underneath? I mean, the modifications are far from small.. or anything that can just be LISTED in a "LHD to RHD conversion FAQ" -- serious, you need to understand wiring, welding, and air conditioning and have tons of other skills to successfully and safely do what you are trying to do.
AND WHY?

Great!

umm,, i want to convert to rhd really bad.. i'm one of those 6foot tall super huge torso guys.. so,, if i switched to rhd i could sit my seat hella low, because that stupid hump wouldn't be in the way, then i could drive my car the way its ment to be driven for once.. my knees wouldn't hit the dash or the steering wheel... and i could wear a helmet... ahhh,, the posibilities are endless..
so lets not flame him for asking the question, just point him in the right direction... "search" its been covered, there are a handful of people that have done it.. they said it sucked.. go from there.

jdmrecycler.com has done several rhd conversions. They might be able to help. They are good people too. I got all my JIC stuff from them with no problems, and excellent service.

The hump is only for the cat converter. You can do some floor work and even things out if you really wanted to, I am sure its MUCH less work than doing a full RHD conversion. Think about it:
Problem A) Hump in floor
Problem B) Rerouting EVERYTHING, from steering to all components inside the car.

Im not sure why you put this in your post i believe he is saying he doesnt want to convert to rhd, just trying to clear that up.
anyone u know of done any floorwork to get it flatter? i'd love to see pictures so i know what i'm getting myself into. :-D post'm if ya have them :-D i'd be in debt to you forever. I'm going to shave some of hte padding out of my seats this weekend.. we'll c if that half an inch does anything but hurt my butt more..

Another request for the floorwork PLEASE.
I'm 6'1 and sitting bowlegged in the driver seat makes it impossible to use the ebrake when I need it and also to correctly heel-toe. I've just had to adapt to heel-brake, toe-gas, and i'm still not that good at it. And I have contemplated relocating my ebrake so I can use it when I need it.

Why would you NOT want to do this? I think it'd be pretty fun.
Practical? I can't imagine it being that bad, and I never go to drive thrus anymore anyway. .
fun? Yeah, it'd be pretty damn fun. . I bought the car for fun, so I wouldn't mind swapping to RHD too. :D
will I? Nope. (unless I had a front clip with dash in superb shape)
but remember. . it's more than just moving the dash, steering system and brakes / clutch and all that over. .
you'll need to get the correct wiper parts, correct rearview mirrors (as you won't be able to adjust them properly) and in my case, I'd need (want) to somehow reprogram / move my power door lock stuff so it unlocks the passenger side door on the first press, and the driver's on the 2nd (opp. of what it does now)
KoukiS14
11-11-2003, 01:46 PM
ohh yeah. .you'll ALSO need to move your e-brake over to the other side.

if i were to do something interesting, i would put the steering wheels in the center and relocate everything, and just have one front seat in the center. more interesting conversion

I agree. . that would be awesome, and weight dist. would be perfect.
I'm hoping that soon, a company will make a practical, AFFORDABLE sports car for around 30k fully loaded, with a 3 seat setup like the McLaren. May cost more for R&D, possibly. . HOWEVER. .that cost should be made up by the fact that the company wouldn't have to create molds / parts for two seperate dashboards and stuff.

I can think of three reasons to do this, and I bet we all know which one "your boy" wants it for.
1. Deliver my mail
2. He is a hardcore racer. Most tracks go clockwise, so most turns are right. Puts you (and your weight) right over the apex. I learned this from a guy named Obin on www.vwvortex.com
3. He just wants to look JDM
I bet 3.

I guess in someway it would be cool jsut to say you have RHD, but its a waste of money and you dont gain s*** from it, so why bother?

i honestly dont see why it would be cool just to say that you have RHD. theres no real benefit from it. its expensive. its not practical. in fact if someone told me they converted their car to RHD id call them stupid. they wouldnt be able to go through drivethroughs without a passenger

I completely fail to understand the fascination people have with sitting on the other side of the car.
Please remind your friend that they drive on the other side of the road over there!
Even better, have your buddy send me that money of his so I can put it to better use.

I think it's funny that when people talk of Skyline GT-R conversions to LHD, it's a perfectly sane thing to do. I've NEVER heard anyone ask "why"
nocomedown
11-11-2003, 10:40 PM
probably because it's normal to sit on the left while driving in america. you know...convenience issues

11-12-2003, 09:45 AM
Why?
Because we drive on the right side of the road!
Jesus Christ, how hard is this to understand?
Our entire system of transportation in this country is designed around driving on the right side of the road from the left side of the vehicle.

So I still don't see justification for why it's okay, and not rice, to spend the thousands to convert a vehicle to LHD, a vehicle that doesn't even have any LHD interior parts in any market, anywhere in the world. . . yet, it's insane and gay to spend a LOT less to make a car RHD.
And as far as driving on the right and sitting on the left? Why is it better to sit on the left? I can't say I'd notice any difference. . Used to always see the Japanese execs from SIA driving RHD JDM (locally made) vehicles here in town, they didn't look unhappy.
RHD is fun simply because it's different... if I bought a front clip, and had all the shit, I'd do it. . hell, why not?
