Im looking for a good beater to buy before it starts to snow. Im looking for really really really good gas mileage and FWD or AWD so I dont loose control in the snow. Any suggestions?

For power potential, 1st gen dsm. For reliability, a EG civic is never a bad choice for fwd, for awd a GC8 impreza will do nicely

I am in great need of a beater also for the winder I am thinking an EG and that is what I was thinking but I wasn't sure if it was going to be a decent car....I think thats what I will shoot for. Or maybe a used VW and old Subaru would be nice with the AWD

if its gonna be a beater, get an EF. Cheaper, and still dependable.

Also, my '90 Celica is extremely reliable after 129,000+ miles. I drove it from Oakland to San Diego (500 miles) for 11 hours (damn LA traffic) and had NO problems. Car can get up to 33 miles/gallon too. I like it. And theyre cheap. Good luck

I would get a Z31 or a S13 for a beater but I live in a area with no winter :P

If I lived up north I would get a sentra or something FWD or AWD.

my mother donated her 88 toyota carolla to me so thats basically my beater and the 240 is resting until auto x season

but my carolla is great its ugly but it drives good its easy on gas and its carburated!!!! two pumps of the pedal and it fires right up maybe this could help in your choices

method : so u have a 240sx and an old corolla as your cars? lol...

on topic, civic/accord/integra, a 200sx, impreza/legacy. all decent cars. civic is unbeatable for gas mileage, and chances are its gonna be great mechanically. get one driven by an old granny. anything subaru and old is going to have a few issues, but not too bad. 200sx i say b/c some ppl hate driving civics. its a good alternative plus you get to keep it in the nissan family. personally i think it looks pretty nice too.

Go for the Corolla, it's very reliable.

i was about to get a beater car a while ago...
i was looking for a festiva...
but then, my gf said that shes going to dump me if i bought a festiva even if its just for a beater...
so i trashed that idea, keep on saving until i can afford a better looking beater car such as an eg6(cant beat honda's sohc vtec motor)

um...i'd dump any girlfriend who said she'd dump me based on me owning a certain car. that's booosheeeet.

anyways, rabbits are nice little cars. i'd also consider the AWD civic wagon.

You may laugh at this but how about a geo metro? I had one a few years ago and it was very reliable and of course great gas mileage. Not much power but its a beater so it is just for transport. Believe it or not that little egg car can fit 4 adults more comfortable than a 240 can.;)

Toyota Corolla FX16, Toyota Tercel 4wd, Mazda 323, Honda EF, Nissan Sentra/altima/stanza, VW Bug (awesome in the snow and very cheap and easy to fix)...

I would get a NA FC3S. Not exactly a reliable car and only a 2 seater, but it's still good. Missed out on a turboII for $1500 which ran really fine. Damn.

lol! a fc3s as a beater? rwd = death in snow for most people. rotary reliability = death for your pocketbook. if anything, i would imagine the 240sx would end up being the reliable beater while the fc gets the garage most of the time.

HHAHA those are HORRABLE beaters, FCs are no good in snow you need to have like mudder tires to keep them strait.

I have a sentra, it rocks

Don't forget about all the older american cars('90s), they make great winter beaters. I've had my '93 pontiac grandam since highschool. It's ugly, but it gets the job done.
