View Full Version : Do I need to replace my tie rods, or just the ends?

I searched and found this (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27115&perpage=30&highlight=tie%20rod%20install&pagenumber=1), but I have a question (okay, two).
I suspect something to do with my tie rods are creating my shimmy. Would it be the tir rods or the ends? I haven't crashed into anything, I just suspect it's due to being worn.

Also, when replacing them, Dousan says to count threads. Is this so you don't screw your alignment? I get free alignments. Would an alignment make it better if I am off a bit?

Thanks!
Jeff

You count threads so that you have the exact same toe as before. So yes, it is for alignment purposes.

As for your tie rods, look at them and see if they are bent. If they are, replace them. If you're going to be tracking your car, you could get something beefier like the Teins or JIC's.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll just do the ends. It's just a street car anyways.
The threads would affect toe, I am guessing? Not like it matters. For $120 I picked up lifetime alignemnt. :aw:
Thanks for clearing that up!

My local Bridgestone place. Not "Bubbas Bridgestone" but the offical one. They bought out tires plus, so I have hundred of locations to go to as well. Hoepfull they won't make it a hassle. They guy said to bring it in every oil change, which is gross overkill, but it's worth it.
