If you're old enough to remember it, they finally have an official movie trailor for it
This is actually my most anticipated movie of the year. I hope they did a good job.

Strange naming a prequel exactly the same as the film it's preceding. Looks very similar to the original, but I'm still pretty hyped.

Although I think the movie would be better with only guys in it like the John Carpenter one. I still have high hopes for it.
It wouldn't make sense if Kurt Russel was in any part of this movie. Unless it is the ending sequence. Supposedly, the rest of the guys in the movie are Norwegian. I think the director or producers were asked this question somewhere down the line. The other big issue was making sure they minimized the use of CGI.

no i get it that it would make no sense to have the same actor/character in both films, but since this is essentially a remake, not really a "prequel". . . . . .

Well I'm calling it a prequel as it takes place just before the film with the Norwegians (and a few Americans I suppose) made by John Carpenter.
Other resources are also calling it a prequel
The Thing (2011) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0905372/)
The Thing (2011 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_%282011_film%29)
According to IMDB, The producers didn't want to remake something that was already perfect, so they convinced the studio to allow them to film the story before the first film.
I also hope they dont fuck this one up. I'm anticipating this more than any other movie this year.

One of my favorite movies. I even have the game for PS2. Can't tell if it's a prequel or a reboot or a remake, but I think I will check it out! Thanks for the find!

I was trying to put a finger on who she was until I IMDB'd her. She doesn't look very cute in the trailer but holy shit:

Would bang. A whole lot. It's Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Great movie and she was great in it. I never remembered much about the original movie, but her being in this one just got me interested.
Plus she's got a movie coming out next year called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter... How could you not like this girl?!
Edit: Damn, she was John McClane's daughter in the last Die Hard movie and in Deathproof?! Awesome!
