View Full Version : S14 nearly done, now i wish i had built a "classic"
Alright, so..
after i have now put +$18,000 into my s14, i just wish i would have built a 67-69 camaro, or mustang. I still love my s14, and well there is not one damn thing wrong with it, but.. now that im a little older, i just kinda want different things.
anyone else feel this way?

Well i kind of feel the same way, but im only 18 lol ;) i bought a prelude as my first car when i was 16, probably put $3000 into it, lost most of it when i sold it last year in june, bought an s14 for $5000 in july, probably spent around $6000 in mods so far, will probably put another $1500 on paint and wheels, so $7500 into it. I have probably only driven it for 3 months total since ive gotten it... i now want an evo, though i loved the prelude (regret selling it, reliablity ftw) and the s14 (sexy money pit), i could have an evo by now -_-
yeah..
i have to buy a clutch, (stock one sucks)driveshaft, (sold steel one so i could go aluminum) buy a stereo head unit, and install the seats i just bought
and i am not happy with the current paint, and was considering respaying the exterior. (already media blasted the whole car, did all body work, and painted inside, underneath)
but i just wish i would have done a 67 or 69 mustang really..
maybe i can sell this off, and buy a Dynacorn body and build off that.

The way I look at it your gonna spend your money on something so mine as well eNjoy what your spending it on. 99 percent of hobbies youll never see a return of the money invested so just enjoy it, you only live once.
its really finished though.. i just.. i am kinda bummed i didnt get that.. accomplishment feeling.

after you drive it and have some fun with it and get alot of complements on it..your feelings might change...from your avatar it looks like an ls1 so you got the best of both worlds handling and speed! it everything you wanted and it will make you be a lil kid again!
i have drove it, and got the compliments. but.. still its not.. what i want..
id trade it strait across for a 67-69 mustang or a 67-69 camaro that was rust free, with no motor..
koukisilvia123
07-14-2011, 08:50 PM
The compliments is definately an ego boost that makes me want my car more lol, and the fact that its "built, not bought".
And get the camaro, not mustang

Do what makes you happy. I'm all about the feeling I get from driving my cars. It's just like a relationship if the passion just is not there then there's really no point.
yeah, i think if i could sell it for the cost of a dynacorn body, id sell it.
otherwise, i will just keep it

A study was published recently showing that people who had finally achieved long term goals often found themselves feeling disappointed or let down, even though they had actually completed what they set out to do.
The feeling is similar in a sense to buyer's remorse.
The journey or adventure that precedes and accompanies the goal is often times the most exciting and fun part, and after completion we often feel let down, lonely, or empty.
Sell the s14 and build a different car. (Easier said than done, I'm sure.)

How often do you anticipate the completion of a project or a release of a product and once you have it, you feel it isn't what you expected or hoped for.
I'm glad you saw your car through to the finish but I'm sorry it doesn't fulfill your desire. But at least now if you want a different car you have a nice 14g bargaining chip.

Its not hard to put that kinda money into a car man. Not when you buy quality parts and not knock offs. Especially when you media blast your car and repaint the entire thing.
I dont really need to post pictures to impress a bunch of people i will probably never meet.. lol im not the type of guy that cares too much what others think.

well, there is the driving, and making stock vettes, and stock shelby mustangs look ridiculous is always fun, and when the clutch arrives tomorrow or monday, and my driveshaft is done (probably tomorrow) its definately gonna be fun..
its just not what i want anymore.
i want something that will hold its value, but yet still be fun.

I just 'finished' my car, I already want to build another one. I don't want to sell my S14 though, I just want to hoard like 8 cars and have them all be completely retarded.
I need a 964, a S30Z, a FD, a Y33, and probably some sort of American car....maybe a 67 barracuda fastback or something. Not to mention a S13 hatch, coupe, zenki S14, and S15.
Then the other part of me wants to sell everything I own and go on a crazy around the world trip where I take as much time as I want. I'd probably be set for at least 6 months.

didn't see your location.. I come thru SLC a few times every year during the winter season. Like you guys say.. "Best Snow Ever"
Havent' really found anywhere else comparable.
I stopped counting how much I spent on my cars. And If I have to count every dollars spent on tires drifting and cars breaking, and building... etc.. I would not sleep cuz I know I spent $$$$$$$$$$$$
I just finished rebuilding my drift car. and I was itching to pick up a z32. I almost did but the thought of not having enough garage space keeps that part of me grounded. I have 3 s chassis and I still want more.. My next house will need to have a 10 cars garage and enough driveway space to keep another 10..

Can we all make wish lists of the cars we want? i cant wait to "finish" my s13 so i have a reason to buy another one, and another, and 2 more. So I can have all the trim levels and paint jobs I want.
Why stop with one?

I seem to get bored with cars at least once a year. Once time I kept a car 3 months before I sold it (back when I had money). The grass is always greener... perhaps look at other aspects of your life to try & find what void needs to be filled. Spiritual, mental, social?

having a 240, luxary sedan, and classic is a nice combo.
i still need to dump another 10g in to my 14 to be where i want it. and that still will be chump change compare to my Nomad project.
No car is ever really ever finished. There's always room for improvement. Like the rest of crowd this thread is fail without pix. You can contemplate about a classic but at the end of the day you will never get all your $ back whatever you dump it into.

Everyday I regret buying both.
Everyday I love that I have both.
In retrospect, the $30k + that I have tied up in both is stupid.
Given the opportunity, I'd do it all again.

To me this thread is pointless. If you are not happy with the s14 sell it, and buy something you want. Why make a thread about how you wasted your money and should have built a classic? A classic would have cost you twice of what you spent to restore, if not more. A true Nissan enthusiast will never regret what they have spent into there car, its just the love we have for them.

this thread is pussy.... stank pussy at that
dont build a car and complain, its real simple. if my friends heard me saying this they'de quickly tell me that im being stupid and to shut the fuck up.
the way i see it, 10-20k is still chump change if you're trying to build something thats respectable in the long haul. and like everyone else already said, post up some pics of your heap of shit. beware, as soon as people see it you'll either receive props or receive more harsh criticism, so be ready.
people hear me talk shit on the daily here, some wonder what the hell i am building. bottom line, build your car for yourself, accept it for the good and bad that occurs and deal with it. as many compliments as i get on my "project" there are and will always be things that could be done better, or still need to be done, etc etc etc.... just fucking deal with it.

Are you guys really serious? Do you think it's hard or unheard of to spend $18k on a car? You really want to see an s14 with $18k in it? Look down about an inch. I stopped keeping track on my car at about $14k or something (including purchase price) and that's before the $4k in suspension, wheels and tires. there's been so much other little stuff, it wouldn't shock me if it added up over $20k, and my car is still mostly stock it seems. The S14 isn't the point of this thread. Get a life.
240jake
07-15-2011, 09:39 AM
You also realize that your 240 will handle 1 million times better than an old mustang or camaro right? Youd have to dump 30k+ into an older mustang/camaro suspension to have it handle even close to your 240 and it would still be far off. Just get another project and stfu.
By the way i have a sr swapped zenki and a 68 Mustang fastback. They are both awesome in their own ways just completely different, if you really want to daily an ancient relic of a car maybe you should try it first mang.

Who gives a shit what the car looks like. He probably built it for himself as has been suggested thousands of times on this forum and now he's bummed about it. Whether you like it or not, or if you think the money was well spent doesn't make a damn bit of difference.
Back to the original topic, I say at least finish the car and drive it a bit. You can't go back, wishing you could only creates more heartburn. Figure out if the decision you made was the right one at the time and live with it. If you decide it was a worthwhile endeavor, just be happy with it and live your life. If not, learn from it and move on.

If you regret spending the money on your car, then you probably don't truly enjoy it. Modifying cars is a waste of money no matter how you look at it. You will never get it back (unless you build them for the sole purpose to MAKE money) I can see if you have unforeseen circumstances (house, kids, lost job, etc) that will make you sell. I am currently trying to sell mine to plan for some things down the road.... but do I regret spending 20K + on my s14..... HELL NO! I love building cars plus I learned so much stuff and had a great time driving it. I would do it all again.
