Hello everyone,

Let me start by saying I have read, read and researched everything I could. I still have some problems. Just to let you guys know the thread Dousan made on the tein tie rod setup and also the subsequent threads. So this should be evidence enough to tell I did "search"

I have a couple of problems, firstly both my tie rod, ends included were totally worn. I was replacing some bushings among other things and I decided to fix my worn tie rod setup, especially since I was under the car already. Problems started from the get go, the nut that allows the tie rod end to to adjust was baked right on to the tie rod end. I tried for hours to take it off and no luck. I decided to cut it off since I was tossing the whole setup anyway.

I heard that tie rods were extremely hard to pull and that I should use a tie rod "puller" which was easier to use. I went to autozone and rented their 2 in 1 tie rod puller, needless to say that didn't fit passed the inner tie rod. What i need to know is what tool....(hopefully not a vice grip) to pull the inner tie rod.

Also the guard, how do I take that off without damaging it. I am still on a the brink of placing the tein spacer with the tein setup. I am however somewhat hesitant mainly because I had a problem once with my tire hitting the wheel well.

Soo....I want to know what tool to use, and should I use the spacer. Given that I am not a drifter, but I do think I will be doing some auto-crossing in the near future where the increased steering angle would be useful.

Thanks guys

This is what i use for the tierods:

Im not sure about the east coast but Harbor freight has them and probably will let you return it after use. Run the tein setup and see how you like it. You might need to run wheel spacer depending on your setup

Well advanced-auto had the right tie rod puller, not so much like that but it had the mag like looking piece and 3 different connections. One did the trick just a few minutes ago.......

And about running spacers, I am currently sitting on 962's 17x7 at the front which I do run 5mm spacer to clear my z-brake setup....do you think I would have any trouble about hitting the wheel well?

Given sportmaxx/xxr's really have a questionable offset problem....

big channels locks or monkey wrench work in a pinch if its not too tight...

I must assure you it was very very tight, I think they were changed before because I saw some thread locker on the end.

Well I am off to my next question, should I run the tie-rod spacers or not ?

I am not going to have the money to go get 25mm spacers, at least for now. I really wouldn't want to lock up on the road.

I already did the tension rod bushings, steering rack bushings, CA bushings, CA ball-joints, sway bar bushings and end-links and now the whole tie rod setup. In this time alone.....this really rocked my pocket.

I tried the tie rod puller from autozone and it didn't work for me. So I brought in the new tie rod and fit a wrench of the same size to it. Took 1 minute and it came off no problem.

Well if you ever need the right puller for rent, check advanced they have it. I am yet to see if it fits the Tein inner tie rod though.

Im not a fan of big wheel spacers. Try checking clearances in the air and on ground, if it rubs look into a different wheel/tire setup

I definitely am looking into a different setup, the 962's are just too heavy in my opinion. Almost 30 pounds a rim. I will however need my car to be running until I can find the money to fix that.

Anyone ever run this setup on 17x7 962's ?

I do think I will be doing some auto-crossing in the near future where the increased steering angle would be useful.

Increased steering angle isn't at all useful for autocross, unless you count driving around in the pits. If you're autocrossing the car, I wouldn't even consider installing it. There's no benefit, supposedly messes up the bumpsteer, and is technically an illegal mod in the lower classes.

This is news to me, I had no Idea. I was under the impression it would help in lower speed tight corners, or so i was told.

So basically just install them w/o the spacers...?

i use an adjustable wrench and my foot?

install them with the spacers because thats what they were designed to be setup for. if you notice theres a gap in the thread where the spacer slides on unless they updated their design.

I'm sure I've never turned past 1 full turn on course, probably not much past 3/4 of a turn, even getting that far is rare.

Well, they definately updated their design. There was no space for the spacer to sit, if it was there I wouldn't think twice about putting it in because I would assume it had to be done that way.

Difinately enlightened by your experience. Thanks for the advice, I am going to install it and see if the like the response.
