SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- —
Netflix is raising its prices for the millions of subscribers who use the service to rent DVDs through the mail and watch video over the Internet.

Under rates introduced Tuesday, households that want both DVDs and Internet streaming will have to buy separate plans totaling at least $16 per month. It's effective immediately for new members and Sept. 1 for existing subscribers.

Netflix Inc. had been including both options in a single package that started at $10 per month.

The $8 monthly price for only Internet streaming remains unchanged.

This marks the first time that Netflix hasn't bundled online streaming with its DVD-rental plans since it began sending video over high-speed Internet connections in 2007. Internet streaming provides more immediate gratification, but typically doesn't include the latest releases.

VUDU - Rent, buy & watch HD movies and TV shows on-demand (http://www.vudu.com) is exactly like on demand as you pay $2 per movie for new releases.

I have been exceedingly disappointed with the library of streaming titles. Not to mention that the quality on the "HD" movies and television shows is inconsistent as hell. The service just isn't doing it for me anymore.

you in riverside, here Spot. The Difference. (http://spotrentals.com/SpotDefault.aspx)
$1 first movie, 89cents for 2nd movie etc.. bluray and dvd same price.
Thier machine software kind of sucks though, very confusing.

Sad that someone comes out with a killer product, then some asshat decides "i gotta cash in too" and decide to beat you out of a market that you created.. I know its business, but its tough.

1.99 per movie or buy 10 for $10

Best deal I've found so far, I would keep the online netflix (because they have alot of anime I watch :P) and just buy 10 of those and use them whenever.

doesnt bug me.. i tried netflix and it sucked for me. my internet isnt fast enough so when i chose a movie on my ps3 .. it would be loaded half way then when its gets to that half way mark it just stops... and loads in small increments.. plus... my local movie shop has dollar wednesdays and mondays on any rental. i dont mind going into town and personally picking up the movie.

They never have good shit on Watch It Now anyways so I canceled my streaming, and kept my 2 DVDs out at once and it lowered my monthly rate. So I like what Netflix is doing.

Netflix fucked up for being so cheap to begin with. Supposedly the upkeep to maintain its collection got too high.

Looks like I am just gonna go back down to the streaming option.

Ive had this since 08, there streaming selection has seriously gone to shit I can't ever find anything to watch anymore. And the redbox an Netflix both ran our local movie business out of town, we no longer have ant Hollywood Videos, and Blockbuster got ran off as well. So them bumping the price up it better include better movies and tv shows to steam.

I get really aggravated when I want to watch "House" but they don't have any of the seasons on it or Sons of Anarchy, instead they put movies and tv shows from the 1980's on there which I don't understand at all.

I've been a netflix subscriber for years. I enjoy the streaming, but It sucks that there are almost no mainstream new releases available on demand. The selection is great if you want to watch television shows, or anime, or foreign, or kids stuff. But if you want to watch recent hollywood releases (you know, the hear of the rental business), the selection sucks.

If I am lucky I get at best two dvds a week, but most of the time its only one a week because of my schedule. As soon as I finish Dexter I am dropping the dvd rentals and sticking with streaming and redbox.

Roku Streaming Player | Watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, and MLB.TV on Roku Player (http://www.roku.com/)

They don't want to do self streaming because some content producers view that as encouraging piracy. They don't want to get blacklisted by anyone.

If you want to stream files on your home network look at WD's products. They have a great support forum where they take suggestions for any format or service they don't support. They still have a hard time getting all the online content licenses Roku has

Media Players Overview (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/homeentertainment/mediaplayers/)

I have a WD TV. I have been looking at a Roku because there is some good free services they stream that WD doesn't.
