OK so my friend has a friend with a black 97 240,129k, runs great, 5spd, power everything, paint looks mint, interior looks great, tokico shocks, springs, HID's, auto start/alarm, HKS exhaust. He wants to trade for my 99 subaru imprezaRS in stock condition + give me 1700. So figuring my car is worth about 10500(blue book) in stock condition, the blue book on the 240(5k) is well below what they go for should i do the swap? Id be dropping in an sr soon so the milage doesnt bother me. What do u guys think of the deal?

Sounds like a steal. Why swap to SR right away? The KA is more than capable of getting you into more trouble than you know what to do with.
Once you learn how to not get into the trouble it can cause, THEN go SR! :D

why dont you just sell your car for what you can get for it, then buy a 240 that doesnt run or something then you'll have thousands to drop into it.

what would i drive while its not running?, plus thats what RS's are going for stock right now, around 10,500. Just wondering if the 240 was worth around 8,500

Well are you looking for a s14 only? if you wanted an s13 you can get them running and in good condition for under 3 grand.

Drive with the KA until its run through the floor, then swap it.

I'm glad I don't have to make that choice like that. I wouldn't know what to choose, an Impreza.. or kouki S14.. Impreza or kouki S14. Actually, if I were in your position, I'd keep the Impreza. Then trade in the Impreza and get an STi. Yep..

Yeah I picked up my 1993 Coupe SE with 110,xxx on it for $2,000 from a dealer! It has it all too I love it and that was a steal. I guess if I were you I would look around for an S-14 then sell yours and buy that because you could probably get a better deal out of it, and then have more money to put new suspension and stuff on it! Just my .02

i say drive the KA til it dies. but before it dies, buy the front clip of whatever swap you want. and just keep it in the garage and slowly add parts to it. so that way when it goes in, its nicely modified and it will be alot easier to do it out of the car

Sounds like a great deal, like they said drive the KA to the ground, then get an sr.

he asked whether or not he should trade, not whether or not he should swap out the KA.

I would ask for 2500 + 240. The 240's probably really worth about 7500-8000. Maybe even a touch less.

first i said 3k, then he said 1500, then 1700. So your saying its not worth it? damn its not very often a black 5speed kouki is local by me =[

yeah but then i have to scramble to sell my car before i can buy the 240 and as far as ive seen 240's dont stay for sale long =]. I guess if anything it makes more sence to find a buyer for my car and then look for a 240

if you really want it, jump on it now. they really don't last long at all

on autotrader.com, there are NO kouki s14's or RS's within 100miles.
Given that, if i were looking for one, i'd shell out an extra grand if i one popped out.

I dont know what the market is like in NYC, but here in the California, you'd be hardpressed to find a kouki in decent shape. So while bluebook is around 7-8, i paid 9.2, knowing that i've got a shitload of ricers ready to swoop on it.

why don't you negotiate? tell him you'll take 2500 + the 240, and see if he bites. If not maybe try 2200..

They are right though. Kouki's are rare, and if you really want it, pay the premium. I paid 3950 for my s13, but it only had 90K miles...

I'd upgrade to 5 lugs before putting in an SR.

try an get a lil more money, id say no less than $2K but then call it a deal. thats a sweet ride, very rare too! you gotta factor in current market value

its really a matter of personal opinion. you sound like you really like the car, so it doesnt matter what the blue book value is, it only matters what it's worth to you. that said, i'd go ahead and trade and maybe try to get a bit more cash out of it just because i love 240s:D

well i do like the car, but i checked it out and it doesnt seem like its worth 8k, id say more around 7k. I guess that depends on how much you want the car, i do like it, but i couldnt give up my RS for 1700 with this car. It has a dent in the rear quarter, scratches on rear/front and scuff marks on the sides thats could possibly be compunded out, the check engine light is on and possibly due to an o2 sensor he said. It just didnt seem right for the price. Thanks for everyones input. Question tho, someone mentioned converting from 4-5 lug before motor. What are the disadvantages to a 4 lug setup? thanks.

OptionZero

5 lug facilitates a 3Z brake swap, but you could drill the rotors to fit a 4lug, its just work.

Other wise, it affects your selection of rims, many come only in 5 lug configuration i believe.

SOrry, i thought it was an SE model. For a basemodel, 7k seems alot. Look for one with VLSD and ABS. I regret not looking at that before i got mine.

i hate it when new 240 owners are so quick to swap out the engine. its a 97 KA!! it still has life!

like fooddude said

good coilovers > swap

This is true. I got my coupe for $2,200. That included dealer fees and everything. I got it at an Acura dealer in Charleston, lol. Anyway, shop around, however I agree kouki's are rare anywhere.
