View Full Version : need some opinions

Sup guys. I need a few opinions on some stuff w/my car. My personal preference is painting the cf hood and the lower lip the color of the car, but quite a few people have been saying to leave it unpainted. I'll most likely get the stuff painted but I wanna see what you people think (out of curiosity). I'm also wondering whether I should keep the car spoilerless or go w/a spoiler. I've never put a spoiler on any of my cars before but I think a spoiler might look good on the car.

Before anyone asks. Yes, I'm swapping the motor, just finishing up the outside before I do the engine bay. I have the motorset waiting to go in.

Btw, the car is super dirty in these pics. Haven't washed it in about 6 weeks. :D

yes, i think i'm in agreeance with the rest of the group, btw, your car is sex. one of the few s15 front ends on an s14 that i like. nice rims too. i'd keep it wingless unless there was a real subtle kinda wing to put on, otherwise that looks sexy.

Hmm, I like it the way it is. I usually don't like CF hoods left unpainted, but it looks really good that way on your car (due to the color of the car). The lip... either way you want to do it. I like your car wingless. Honestly, the only "wing" I like on s14's is the stock US one. But it wouldn't look that great on your car. Keep it spoilerless (oh god.. I said it).

Thanks for all the input. I'm pretty much set on painting the lip. The hood I'm still on the fence about. I don't usually like the look of cf hoods but for some reason it seems to look ok on the car due to the color of the paint and the rims. I think it looks ok spoilerless too. I ordered a little mini spoiler though, just to see how it'd look. The spoiler is installed w/out drilling holes, so if doesnt look good I can easily take it off.

mmmmm pretty car! I love the strawberry face! I like the color too...a fan of the greys here.:D I say paint the lip, and the hood would look nice painted also, not so "look at me!" I would say no spoiler, but tint the windows. I personally like tint and it also dosn't let everything insde your car be displayed through the stock non tinted windows. The sideskirts are definatly a nice finishing touch, and they look very nice. The rear kouki bumper makes the car complete! Very nice! I am jealous!

get spacers for the wheels (at least in the rear)...

Man I love your car, I normally don't like conversion
but I think the gray color makes up for it somehow.
It looks so badass, I won't do shit to it once you get
the motor in. Give us a update how the spoiler looks like,
I'm thinking something that just comes up a little bit,
like on a M3 will look great.

s13silviagirl- ya, i pretty much agree w/you. I gotta try the spoiler out though. I ordered the spoiler about 6 months ago and it finally came in this week. I kept teeter-tottering back and forth between spoiler or spoilerless. So I might as well try the spoiler out and if it looks fugly i'll just remove it. Ya, I wanna get tint too very soon. Next phase is the motor then finish up the suspension. After that I'll finish up the interior and tint it.

nokeone- I had spacers in the rear and it rubbed like a mofo, so I took the spacers out. I'll probably roll the fenders in the future and just adjust the camber. The front is as low as it can go w/out rubbing. The front actually sits a lot lower than the pics when the car is on level ground.

silvia14-the rims are 18x8.5 front w/a +30 offset and 5mm spacers and 18x9.5 rear w/a +30 offset.

ckyfish- what other mirrors are available? Only other ones I've seen are the ganadors which are $$$.

xren17-ya the spoiler that I ordered is a little lip spoiler.

blxmjx,
what type of wing is it you are getting? I think that a wangan wing might look pretty sweet....but thats about all I would put on there, in my opinion...also, don't totally mount the wing you get, set it on the car and see if it grows on you. No need to go and mess up a perfectly nice trunk!;) Post me some pics after you get it painted!

Thats such a nice car. Verrrry well done. I like the CF unpainted or painted, either way it'd look hot. Sorry, hehe. But def. paint the lip.

and please don't remove the center caps. I don't understand why people do that if they have the caps. Who wants too look at the hub??

I have 18x10 +13et coming in and we'll see if i rub or not ;)

iirc he is running 255 in the rear. and from the pictures i dun think there's too much negative camber. hence the rubbing...

Keep car all one color, so I think paint-hood-and-lip would be best. I vote for spoiler so it matches the aggressive look of the front. It's a beautiful color, and I personally thing the CF look brings it down. The more mismatched colored parts you have on your car, the less classy it looks.

I'd stay away from the erector set spoilers and get something that is painted to match the rest of your car.

pudula- I initially left the center caps off but the bare hubs looked ugly and rusty. I'm going to have a set of black centercaps made that are flat and painted black. On my wrx I left the centercaps off the le37t's because the hubs didnt look too bad, but the hubs on my s14 look worse than the gay ssr centercaps IMO.

s13silviagirl- the spoiler is a mini lip spoiler from cwest. Its really subtle and inobtrusive. The nice thing about it is its mounted via double sided tape. So, there aren't any permanent mods to make to the trunklid. I'll get the sucker painted and slap it on. If it looks fugly I'll take it off and sell it.

heartwork- I'm probably running because I'm not running stretched tires. My rears are 255/35's. The rears don't rub anymore though. They only rub w/the 5mm spacers. So its cool for now.

powashiftin-as heartwork correctly stated. The color is audi nimbus gray.

silvia14- sorry I don't have the camber settings available.

holisticbeatz- hehehe. Ya, I had just sold my stock seats when the pic was taken. I'm still waiting for my brackets and sliders for my passenger seat, they're supposed to be here in a few days, I'm running bride brix on both sides.

DRFT-yes thats an s4. The s4 is my daily driver, the s14 is my project/fun car.:)

wingsnthangs- I totally agree w/all your points. Its nice to see that I'm not totally whacked w/my thinking.:)When I told people that I was planning on painting everything they all tripped out and said "no way keep it unpainted". The cf hood would probably look good either way but the lip should be painted for sure. The unpainted lip doesnt look as horrendous as I initially thought though. I thought it'd look super bad like those cars w/the full unpainted bodykits.

Paint it all, and get a navan spoiler, just never see too many cars with that spoiler.

Okay, my vote is to paint the lip the color of the car, and then paint the hood with a translucent paint like then did in the Import Tuner Article "Better Then SX".

http://www.importtuner.com/features/0306it_nissan240sx/

In the article: " Sal also applied a thin coat of Candy to the carbon hood; since the paint is translucent and not opaque, it still allows the fiber patterns to show through while imparting a reddish tint to the weave."

I think that looks really smooth. Check out the picture attached.

The translucent paint is a cool IDEA, but it doesn't match the car. Different shades. I don't think it looks all that good. Would look good if the car was darker though. Maybe its the picture?

agreed..it is ALL rice..however he was not asking for opinions on his s15 front end conversion (which, while i would not do it, does look nice on his car, even though i generally detest them, his looks good)..if i had seen somethin i deemed wrong with it (as i did the wheel spacing) i would have pointed it out..other then that why go there?...

and in my subjective opinion, regarding an issue he ASKED for advice on, that candy coat gloss top layer see through translucent and not opaque crap is worthless, ugly, shit...

I ordered the CWest mini wing as well but still haven't received it. Can you post some pics of it? BTW, the car looks really good, paint the whole thing though. Unpainted would look OK but like someone else said not as classy. Some light tint would look good too since it's a dark colored car.

s13nissan240sx-that looks nice, just not for me. Thanks for the heads up though.

Nokeone, bliss-its all good. any opinions are fine by me. I know my car won't appeal to everyone. I just want to see some opinions. Seems like most everyone shares the same feelings as I. Paint the lip and paint the hood. Most people say stay spoilerless. I want to wait and see how the mini spoiler looks before passing judgement on that one though. Seems like there are a few people that would take it off my hands if I don't decide to go w/it.

It's nice to knkow that I'm not totally whacked with my thinking as well, especially in this carbonfiber-obsessed import scene.

As for the spoiler, I hope you put one on. It would really complete the aggressive aerodynamic look that began in the front of your car, especially with that lip. I suppose no spoiler would look "clean", for similar reasons why people shave their door handles and remove all emblems, but it wouldnt look natural nor complete. IMHO, it would look awkward, and a tasteful paint-matched spoiler is just what your car needs.

Whatever you decide on, good luck and keep up the nice work. :)

I just think that the CF hood would look cool unpainted since the car is a darker color it would just add a little action to the hood.....I personally think a painted lip CF hood, and no spoiler would look sweet...but I also don't own the car haha!

I agree w/ most, paint the lip leave the hood. Hood goes w/ the color of the car. BTW, if this hasn't been mentioned yet you might want to blur out your plate # at the beginning of the thread. As for the spoiler, I say go w/ the GP sports spoiler. The really little one that barely sticks out over the edge of the trunk. Very sexxx. Car looks hot.

but lower the car more. the rear looks higher then front! it will make the car more agressive, with the OEM look and those wheels, it doesnt flow 100% well, lowering it will make it look 'tough' :)

oem is great because it can handle a lot of abuse!

i say get some aero mirrors and your all set! :)

Ya, I agree. I'd like to lower the rear some more and add some spacers in the rear to bring the wheels out some more. I really can't right now though. The car will rub if dropped more and it will also rub w/spacers. I'm going to need to roll the rear fenders some and then I'll drop it some more and add 10mm spacers in the rear.

Ya, i've been looking for a set of ganador aero mirrors to complete the exterior.

No tint for me.:D

btw, thanks for the comments.

Bliss- thats how the rear spoiler looks. Its an add on one piece lip spoiler that is attached w/double sided tape. The sides really can't attach to the car or else the trunk wouldn't be able to open. I personally wish the spoiler was a 3 piece design so everything could fit better. Oh well, I still like it though.
