My question is can the rb25det be thrashed while drifting? Can it handle the abuse with a right tune? Last question is what would you pay for a perfect running stock rb25det in a 92 240sx with body damage(1 rear quarter panal needs to be replased, trunk has spoiler holes.), whole car is gutted and needs new front bumper. along with a few other things?
and I know its hard to guess what to pay I just want to know Im not getting ripped off.

you can "thrash" every car and most can handle it...
you start having issues when you do not properly maintain a vehicle.

Its not beat to hell but I do plan on drifting it... which will push the engine
Im also not a sucky driver but I do plan on learning how to drift. Ive built a 350 small block, and put it into a 71 nova and all that crap so im experienced but not with nissans

to answer one of your questions i wouldnt pay anything for an s13 thats beat to hell and gutted, rb25 or not, but i personally prefer full interior, previous owner prolly either got hit or smashed into something trying to slide around which is another reason why i wouldnt touch the car, if your set on a 240 get a nice stock one

exactly. so start off simple with nissans. you dont freakin need an rb25 to drift. get a stock 240 and work yourself up i dont care if you built 7 350 small blocks and put them in 7 novas, its nothing like a 240, im sorry. i started with 240s when i was 12. im 21 and ive been on this site since 2003. so take it from me. get a ka

If its stock with just a tune and the bolt on modifications ie. 200rwkw, It should be completely fine as the box is also very strong.
They are very reliable engines.. But understand that they aren't the best on fuel so a DD 25DET will be heavy on the pocket.
If i was in your position id just get a cheaper basher car and learn from scratch, Its so much fun driving a slow low powered car and pushing yourself to the limits other than letting the car do all the work you will become better at driving also.

The only problem is stock nissans around here go for around 2 grand and for about 1 and a half more I can get a modded one, with less miles. I know you can use a stock ka its just every one I have looked at has 170+ miles which scares me.

thats exactly it, youre broke if a 2grand car is alot of money which it should be your only 16, then what makes you think u can keep and maintain a rb? 170 miles is super super super low thas like backing in out of the drive way for 20 years

a ka will run forever if you take care of it beyond 170k. the fact that that swapped 240 has UNKNOWN miles is the scary part. and the fact that the first thing that person did was beat that thing to shit.

thats a good budget. perfect to by a stock 240 and start replacing busted parts, once your comfortable with the car, buy the essentials you need to drift. you have a good starting budget. use it wisely or it will disappear and you will be stuck with a sitting 240

Rb25's are fine for drifting if you address some of the common issues. The oiling system will need some work, as well as the cooling system as RB25's run relatively hot.
To be honest with you, if you need a DD and have $6,000 budgeted don't buy the car you're referring to. It will quickly turn into a money pit and small issues will leave you without a car to drive. If you really want a 240 to DD as well as drift on the weekend, then find a clean stock car with a KA24DE, put coilovers on it, a diff and do normal maintenance work and it will be more than good enough for both DD-ing and learning to drift in.

Question, how do you know the RB25 is in prefect running condition?
If you're 16 and have a $6K budget for the car you speak of, that money is going to disappear fast so why not start off with stock KA and build the chassis and motor up from there? It's cheaper to repair and easier to maintain than an RB25. You gotta crawl before you can learn to run. Trust me, i have an RB25 and that bitch is a money pit lol
I know you want a fast drift mobile, what high school kid doesn't? But you really need to think about the following:
1. You're 16
You're going to show off to your high school buddies. I don't care who you are, we've all had our moments in high school. I've had quite a few friends who died because they had this mindset
2. You think $2000 is a lot of money
Which it is at your age, that's a given. But spending more on a motor that's going to be abused and have a shortened life span, how's another $3000 sound when you spin a bearing?
3. You're going to crash
If you go around Tokyo drifting everywhere like Sean Boswell, you're going to crash. Into a curb, into a ditch, into a tree, into another person. The easy way to put it is - why start learning how to drive, let alone drift, in a high power, RWD machine. Driving your car is like pointing a loaded gun an someone, if you're fucking stupid, someone is going to get hurt. Lastly, go to a track
4. You're going to break things
You're keeping your motor at high RPMs, you are going to beat the shit out of it, and you have absolutely no history of the car and motor (It's an imported motor, plus who knows what the guy before you was doing).
5. You've never worked on a Nissan
So go with a KA. I came here from 4G63 land, where I learned a lot about my vehicle. I came to the s-chassis and I felt like I was learning to walk again.
When you're choosing to go KA, you're going to get a feeling of how the car works. You're going to pour your blood, sweat, and time into this car. Get a KA, spend some years learning how to drive on the road and drift on the track, meanwhile working on piecing together a nice KA-T setup. Cheap, reliable, and you'll be a better drive who won't give up on the platform in the end.

Boost cost money and from what u said you don't got alot of. So do ur self a favor buy a Honda then look for a beater to learn to drift anything cheap.
