I used the illuminatin lead for the factory stereo to switch a relay from battery switched power (had it in my dash already from my CD player install).

do it on the dimmer knob for the gauge cluster, not sure how it is on s13s but you can pop out the swith on s14s, then just use a multimeter and test it to see which one comes on when you turn the lights on, i beleive mine was red with a black stripe

ok i hooked it up with the red wire/blue stripe, and it works fine, but when i turn on the lights, the driver side one flickers for a second or two... any reason why this would happen?
also when i hook up the oil pressure one, which wire is activated when the car turns on? i mean which wire could i use (where is it)
thanks

I have a S13..
I used the constant and ignition wires from the stereo. I just pulled the radio, got a test light, and found the two wires I needed. I routed the lines up to my A-pillar.. and I'm done.
For the dimmer wire, I pulled the S13 dimmer switch, and in the middle of the 5-6 wires, theres a RED/GREEN (I believe) that will turn on/off when you turn on your headlights. I also used the blk ground wire for my ground for my gauges.
NOW, I have a question for you guys.
I've heard you could actually tap into you DIMMER switch, to adjust the light on the gauges along w/the gauge cluster.
I pulled my dimmer switch, and there were about 5-6 wires. Test light shows one light to be HOT when I clicked on my lights.. and only one to DIM when I toggled my dimmer switch.
The question is,
When I lowered the level of DIMness - the light got brighter on test light. When I turned up the brightness on the switch, the test light got dimmer...
Am I missing something? Is adjusting the gauges using the dimmer switch possible?
Thanks,
runyun
