hey guys, i was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem? Ever since i changed out my bulbs on my hvac its been clicking when i change the modes. the only one it doesnt click on is the straight out/legs. everything else i hear this wierd clicking. Now the vent still changes properly when selecting defrost or anything else, its just that it will click. I took the hvac out to see whats clicking, and i notice the as the motor turns, the pivot near the passenger side doesnt stay put, and clicks as if its trying to lock, but cant quite. i dont see anything in the way causing it. Could it be that my unit is outta wack and not working properly anymore? i am going to try my friends hvac unit and see if that fixes it, if not then im not sure what it might be. thanks

I have this exact same issue with my s14 since I've owned it, I plan to take a look at it while I have my dash out over the next few weeks.

Mine started doing it over this past winter. Like you said, the only setting it stops clicking on is panel/legs so I just switch it to that for the first minute or so after I start my car and then switch it to whatever else I want and it doesn't click anymore. Couldn't tell you what causes it though, I've never messed with mine.

Same on mine, except the vents would not turn all the way, it would hit a certain point and like hit a stop and just click trying to turn the rest of the way.

I have the same problem too. I don't think its the hvac controls. I can see it because i'm getting ready to swap out my dash. It's the bi-level door motor on the heater core that switched the direction of air flow when you select the settings on the hvac. Mine clicks on every setting except head and legs so I just leave it on that.

is it possible just to swap out the motor? or do i have to swap the entire assembly?

I was lazy and just stuck something in the part that clicks (if you take your radio out you can see it) that wedges in between the two parts.

this is easy... take out your bi-level motor.. open it up... it is made of 4 plastic gears... the lcick that you hear, is the motor is trying to operate or move the arm but cannot. More than likely, it is becuase part of the gear is broken.. had to by a new one... good luck..
Had the same problem. I pulled a plug that is on the right side up in the radio area. The clicking stopped and everything is fine.
