DT-05R Wheels Group Buy

Hi guys. What started out as a small shipment for couple of friends,
turned into a gruopbuy due to interest and also the fact that the company
does not offer wholesale. This groupbuy will save costs for everyone who are interested in one of a kind wheels from Japan.
These are DT-05R cast aluminum lightweight wheels manufactured by a mail order company in Japan.
They have very similar appearance to the Nismo LM-GT4's, except they cost alot less. Most of us have seen the wheels in many OPTION magazines and such.
They offer offsets and widths for FR cars, 4 and 5 lug(only in 114.3pcd), sorry no Miatas.

Wow your timing is impeccable!:p I just started looking for some new wheels and I don't think I need to look any more!! I want these bad!:drool:

I just have a couple questions.
-On your page it says it'll take 4 to 5 weeks to get from Japan. So once we order will they come in 4 to 5 weeks later, or will we have to wait for more people join before they even get shipped out?
-Do you know if the 8.5 +25 will clear Z brakes? I really don't see why they wouldn't, just wondering if you knew.

Update on the Group Buy. Currently we have 4 sets paid in full. Currently there is no set deadline, we need 10sets or more. I will find out about the exact weight of the wheels.
Once we have enough orders, the wheels will be shipped from Japan to Chicago, about 4-6weeks.

Whoa this group buy is awsome!!! Now if I got the 16 X 8.5, how would the +37 offset look on a stock s14 SE?? Would it be sunken in or nice. Also would I be better off just getting the 16 X 7.5 +22?? Thanks for the info when its posted up.

You can mix and match any sizes and widths, just has to be in pairs. You can find some pictures of the wheels on different vehicles on tougefactory.com (http://www.tougefactory.com)
Hyperblack is the third picture.
16x8.5 +37 with the right size tires will look flush on S14

No way! I've been trying to get these wheels forever at a reasonable price. The best I was quoted was around 1500 shipped. I'll see if I can gather up enough funds for a set. Any idea if that 17x9.5 (not sure about offsets) would fit in the back?

If I remember correctly, the 16x7.5 weighed about 15-16 lbs and the 16x8.5 weighed 16-17lbs.

It depends on the car and the tire size. On S14 chassis 9.5 wheels with 255's will fit without any problems. On S13 chassis anything bigger than 235's will require fender roll or pull.

The spokes are designed to clear Z calipers. You shouldn't have any probs with either offset.

Sorry, I thought I put s13 in there. If I do get these, I'll probably go for 16's since they'd be mostly for track use.

If you're 5-lug then that's a tough choice, but if you're 4-lug like me I'd say definitely go for these. Widest and lowest offset for 4-lug FN01R-Cs is a 8" +35. :mad:

It should look pretty good on an S14 also. For coilover clearance in the fronts supposedly if you went with 8.5" you'd need a +24 or lower. I'm not sure if 1mm would make that much of a difference, but it might. I'm not sure about coilover clearance in the rear.. :confused:

The spokes on these wheels are designed to clear Z brakes.
The only wheels that will have problems fitting the S13 chassis is the 9.5JJ(depending on the tire size). I would recommend the 8.5JJ wheels if you're worried about fitment.

gah with a s14 you have so much room for tires.. go with the 17x8.5 +25 F and 17x9.5 +30 R. thats what i got. with the fronts you may have to run a *really* small spacer to clear some coilovers but thats it.

Sunken look is acheieved by low offsets. Get the widest wheels with the lowest offsets for sunken look.

Both of you are right. The guy just wasn't specific enough...
If you want the whole wheel to be sunken in you'd go with narrower widths and higher offsets. If you want a sunken face and a huge ass lip, go with wide wheels and low offsets.

Neither of which really make sense to me since Koguchi's wheels don't really have an obvious lip (because of the spoke design) and they're definitely not sunken!

Since we already have over 10 sets ordered, I feel that it's only fair for the people that have already ordered. The order will be processed and it'll take 1-2 weeks to ship out from Japan(some wheels will have to be made to order). It'll take approximately 5-7 weeks to get to your doorsteps after its been shipped from Japan.

Are they going to ship the wheels that are already made as soon as you make the order or are they going to wait until the whole order is ready to ship to the US? If so, does this mean everyone will need to wait aproximately 5-7 weeks to get their rims?

If they are going to send the rims that they have already made, do you know which sizes and colors they currently have in stock? Thanks.

This groupbuy ends this week. M2 has most of the wheels in stock, but some has to be made to order, which shouldn't take more than a week or 2. Then all of the wheels will be shipped together to our warehouse(saves costs), and will be shipped out via ups ground insured(excludes Hawaii & Canada).

They do not have any instock. They order them from japan when you order. I missed the group buy by a few days and i contacted them and they WILL not order these just for one person they said it would be to expensive, They plan to have another group buy in the spring. I didn't really want to stretch it that much really.. it just seemed more natural to go with a tire that was 20mm wider in the rear considering the wheel is 25.4mm wider.
A 225 in the rear instead of a 235 would give you less understeer if you're worried about that. That wasn't really a concern for me though, since I can just adjust the suspension in the front/rear to compensate for it. :)

I originally was trying to decide between 215/40 F and 235/40 R, or 225/45 F and 245/45 R, but wasn't sure if rubbing would be an issue with the latter set (S13), so I was leaning more towards the first choice. Kookz convinced me to bump the sidewall up a bit on the front and go with a 215/45, and that's how I got to where I am now. :D

cool. hmm.. well, what part of your suspension are you going to adjust for understeer? more negative camber? more negative caster?I'll probably just put some more negative camber in the front and play with the coilover damping settings until I find something I like...

As for lug nuts... I'm not sure yet, but they're gonna have wheel locks for damn sure!! :squintd:

PDM sells McGard lug nuts with the locks and all that for ~70. Those Ray's lug nuts are a rip off, you're buying the name more than anything. Wheel & tire shops should have lugnuts and wheels locks for sale too, might want to check into that as well. :)

yea, i think discount tire has lug nuts for ~14 bucks. thats probably what i will get. tracking numbers will be the death of me though... my wheels are "out for delivery" right now and that means i have to keep checking the front door. *tired*

not the rims, just the paint (unfortunately not powdercoated). the rims themselves are very high quality. it would also help if i hadn't used my stock lugs to put them on ;) the wrench rubbing on the rim is what chipped them.

Yep, one of the wheels has a small dent in the rim/lip.
It's obvious that the box was dropped at some point because the dent is where there was no "padding".

As for the issue of the strength of these wheels, I don't think there is one.
Maybe the paint/coating is easily damaged, but the wheel itself seems to be pretty burly.

When the next group buy comes along I'll pick up 2 more for backup.

Due to a mix up when ordering I received 2 sets of 5 lug instead of a set of 4 and 5 lug. Unless somebody out there mistakenly got sent a set of 4 lug gunmetal, Dave will probly put these wheels (Gunmetal 5-lug 17x8.5,17x9.5) up on Ebay soon. Damn, I like the gunmetal better than the Hyperblack too. In the pictures they look black, but when the light hits it, the bronze pearl just jumps out.

FYI:There is a valvestem in the box with each wheel. I guess if you weren't paying attention, you could throw out the boxes with them inside.

I just got mine about an hour ago and have been drooling over them since... SOOOOOOOOOO fucking sick. The wheels are just beautiful. No shipping problems whatsoever, no dented wheels, no chipped paint, no anything bad. The wheels look tough as hell, and as badass as I hoped they would be. I don't even know what else to say about them right now.
I've had the tires for weeks now so I'm hoping to have them on the car and take some pictures tomorrow.

The wheels make the car basically... it looks good in the pictures but the car is... well, it's 13 years old so the paints fuxored and there's dents here and there, plus I added a few to the passenger fender when I was rolling it (Lesson #1: Take your time!) :( I try to keep it looking as good as possible though... I'm kind of like a weird perfectionist: I notice all the dents, but I don't really care. :loco:
