So there have been all kinds of rumors for the longest time as to the status of another installment of the JP franchise. but most of the details were fan based and far from concrete. I've been trying to keep a close eye on this for quite some time, especially since its been one of my favorite movie franchises of all time.

anyways i made this thread for any other dino lovers to converse about the potential movie, and also the new video game coming out(for those that havent heard). We could also talk about memories we have from the previous 3. Because Im sure for a lot of us, they were a big part of our childhood.

Ready for another trip to Isla Nublar? Universal and Steven Spielberg (http://www.fandango.com/stevenspielberg/filmography/p112325) hope so, as the famous director has begun to meet with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (http://www.fandango.com/markprotosevich/filmography/p277264) the discuss ideas for a fourth film in the popular Jurassic Park franchise.

Spielberg, who directed the first two Jurassic Park films and served as an executive producer on the third, must be feeling nostalgic lately – he recently told journalists (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/steven-spielberg-brainstorming-jurassic-park-200911) that he still thinks of making another Jaws movie, and now he’s returning to exploreanother franchise from his past. While it remains doubtful that Spielberg will ever be involved with another shark flick (or that a fifth Jaws film will ever get off the ground), at least Jurassic Park 4 seems like a project with a decent shot at coming to fruition.

The director and studio stress that these are very early brainstorming meetings between Spielberg and Protosevich. The duo has a previous relationship, with Protosevich having worked with Spielberg on his planned westernization of Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy (http://www.fandango.com/oldboy_90548/movieoverview). A series of rights issues eventually killed that project once and for all, but apparently the two enjoyed working together and have teamed up for this project.

The original JP debuted back in 1993. Based on a Michael Crichton novel, the film is remembered for its incredible (at the time) visual effects, which paraded amazingly realistic looking dinosaurs across the screen. The title, along with James Cameron’s Terminator 2, is an important piece of film history if only because it showed what was possible using computer-generated imagery with old school special effects.

The first two films in the series raked in big bucks at the box office, but the third installment – released back in 2001 – didn’t do nearly as well, essentially stopping the series dead in its tracks. This is already leading to speculation that a new Jurassic Park film could be a potential rebooting of the franchise and not just another sequel. It makes sense on some levels – with today’s movie technology and the emergence of 3-D, a remake or reimagining of the original film could be visually impressive. The question is will audiences care? 3-D numbers are down this summer, leading many to wonder if the technology is losing its appeal with viewers.

The bigger question is who would helm such a project? While Spielberg is involved in these early story discussions, it seems unlikely that he’d get back behind the camera to make a new Jurassic Park – although Universal would almost assuredly love it if he did. Only time will tell – but we’ll keep you posted as new Jurassic Park 4 news comes to light.

Thats been my dream to replicate either the ford explorer or the jeep from the first movie. Make it my Daily driver and be super awesome. haha

they re-released the JP toys in the last couple of years. I had almost every toy that came out from the first 2 movies.

These movies are awesome and I'm looking forward to the game. I read the review on it on Game Informer and it had to be approved to get made because they were tired of all the Dino killing game franchises and they wanted one that reflected the movie franchise. Where you aid Dinosaurs and what not.

hell ya!!!! awesome thread. i totally dig jurassic park movies. i remember watching the first one in theaters seriously no joke 15 times. my pop worked as manager so got family in all the time and that was the only movie we went to go watch hahaha good times. if a new jurassic park is in the making im already in line for the midnight showing.

hahaha, yes Jurassic Park 1 is an amazing movie, definitely one of top favorites. Then as they made more movies, they got progressively worse. Who knows? Maybe they will pull an X-Men First Class and actually make a decent movie after several crappy movies that preceded it

According to Movieline, Spielberg said (http://www.movieline.com/2011/07/comic-con-hall-h-live-blog-day-2-tintin-spider-man-and-more.php), "We have a writer who is writing a treatment and hopefully we will make 'Jurassic Park 4' in the next two to three years."
He didn't give any plot details away, but Joe Johnston, the "Captain America" director who worked on the first three, spilled a few beans last week.
"We are in discussions about 'Jurassic Park 4,'" he told ScreenRant (amongst other things) (http://screenrant.com/joe-johnston-jurassic-park-4-captain-america-director-rothc-123898/). "The most important thing I can tell you is that it starts a new trilogy that will go off in a different direction -- a completely different direction that is very exciting."
