I ordered some new components and well the front speakers are too small for the OEM speaker holder.

so how did you guys install your 6.5in speakers into the 6.5in hole?
and where did you guys mount your tweeters and crossovers?

I mean how did you mount your 6.5in speakers into the 6.75in hole?

With a baffle? o.O

Cut some 3/4 MDF and make it fit!

I put my tweeters in my air conditioning ducts so they're invisible(and that those ducts in the doors don't do crap). :D

Cross overs under the seat.

Oh wait... I'm running gutted now... Thats how my car used to be...

medium density fiberboard, available at lowes or home depot.
For the door buildout's I'd use 1/2" since it is plenty strong for midbass and it give you some valuable clearance.
I did some on my S13, www.sounddomain.com/id/andrave

I ended installing my tweeter here,
and the crossover went into the doorpanel right behind the speaker housing. I think it's a good location and you can swivel it up to point it at your ear. And it so happen to be the location that Popey sugguested, I guess great minds think alike. :D My infinity kappa 6.5 went in without a problem but if the speakers are too small there are adapter plates that came with mine or just make some like popey suggested.

dash mounted isn't ideal for tweeters because it causes unequal paralengths. More so because of the difference in paralengths between midranges and tweeters, which can cause a frequency dependant soundstage.

Who said anything about a dash-mounted tweeter?

I put my polks tweets on the top part of the door panel, just behind the rear view mirror assembly... looks great dont have a pic right now, but you can barely notice its there.

pretty balanced look too

I think anything by eclipse are good but maybe that's just me, or some MB Quart. I have Infinity Kappa components right now and I love them but then again, I'm pretty much tone deaf.

are spacers what you used to make the 6.5in speakers into the 6.75in holes?

So if i place my tweeters on the doors, it will sound better than in the little triangle cover for the side mirrors? The reason i ask is b/c i've seen car makers traditionally place the tweeters in the triangle cover for the side mirror

I believe he was referring to the AC vents on the door panel.

The triangle place would be decent. However, It is better to keep the tweeter close to the components...refer to the above posts to see a picture. I wouldn't know how MUCH of a difference placing the tweeters where I put them (on the carpet area) versus placing them on the triangular area. Just passing along information from other members.

Yeah that's what I was referring to when I said spacers, just so you won't have make any yourself and I have them lying around. As to the tweeter location, I was going to initially put it on the triangle piece but I chose to place it in the door panel because 1) it looks better and 2) what popey said.
