Had an exhaust leak and was taking everything off to change a gasket and there was oil caked inside the IC piping all the way down to were the piping meets the IC. I have the manifold and turbo out and the turbo (T25) has a LOT of shaft play...am I better off upgrading or rebuilding

Depending on your budget I would upgrade. S15 turbo is a nice upgrade. I would also invest in a catch can setup.

Yes it is a T28. The stock motor does have a catch can, wasn't sure if you were running it or not. Most ditch it for an aftermarket setup due to its poor location.

why is it in a poor location

Usually it is in the way when trying to swap manifolds. But if you're still on the stock manifold and everything it shouldn't be in the way.

should i upgrade the manifold also...or stay with the stock manifold...i have heard the stock mani holds up better than some of the aftermarket ones out there

You'd be correct, it also retains heat better helping with turbo spool, but... It doesn't flow well unless it's need opened up some with extrude honing. I personally think you'll be fine with a stock manifold if you're just swapping an S15 T28 on...
