taxi cab rides are starting to add up, and not speaking a lick of japaneese probably doesnt help. I suck at life.

haha...there are a TON of used parts stores...junk yards...etc...get a friend who speaks Japanese to make some calls for you...shouldn't have much trouble...or, go to an event and ask them..lol..

on a side note..if you, or anyone you know, needs a car while you are there i have a friend who is selling her S13 Silvia with some mods for super cheap cause she moved back to the states and needs to sell it ASAP...

Bring some tools to a parking lot. Don't forget the camera so you can make an OWN3D pic to contribute to the thread....

Kidding, of course.

the easiest and sometimes best way is to go into a 7-11 (literally) and pick up a "Used" Second Hand Parts store magazine/newspaper...
kinda like the Autotrader you see at similar stores in the US....
you'll find tons of shops around there....not too many shops in Okinawaw i hear, but more up north...

ok well, you being on okinawa, there is a car club over there, Velocity. I believe that there are quite a few military members over there in Oki that belong to velocity. Try to get in touch with someone on base that is in it. BTW which base are you on? My hubby used to be at Futenma. Well, hopefully that helped. Take a few Japanese classes on base while you are there, it will help you a LOT! Good luck when you go to tokyo...and well, look us up in May if you are still there. We are going to Atsugi....sooo KIT and we will try to help you out when we get back over there.

ttyl & goodluck!

S13SilviaGirl - Atsugi?! cool! i used to live at camp zama which is like 10 min. from atsugi. i had a lot of friends there since all the bases around that area (sagamihara-shi) went to one h.s. thats a really good place to be. only a ~45min ride on train to tokyo. its also close to yokohama too so you can check out the infamous bay bridge. ah well... have fun! im jealous

Velocity has chapters in oki, tokyo, yokohama, iwakuni, hawaii, and Indy. I think the only Velocity guys on here are VRT BooTT and I.

go over to velocity.isfater.com and check out our message board. tell them where you are and they will try help you out. if your going to be near tokyo there are a lot of good shops around there. Try to head over to Hachioji on R16 near Yokota AFB. Thats where the Velocity Toyko guys are at. There is a bunch of shops around them. I think I remember hitting up JUN, KSP Engineering, Parts Off, Ken Works, and a few junk yards. Nice place to live too...

If you can, try to go to Round One bowling/arcade. Its like 3 stories tall and has the newest and baddest games around.

Find someone who reads/speaks Japanese and have them help you bid on stuff.

Yahoo auctions of Japan is their equivalent of Ebay. There are all kinds of cool things for cheap on there, plus they'll ship to you since you are not overseas.

umm...yeah I had the same problem when I was in tokyo...

there aren't as many parts stores in Japan as we in the States think there are...espescially in Toyko.

Some of the places that I went for parts while I was there was the Super AutoBacs, I know there are a few in Tokyo. SuperAuto Bacs is good because they have a lot of stuff, but their prices are not the greatest. But the good thing about them is there is usually someone in the staff that can speak ok english

What I found help was a seco-hand parts book I found in a book store. Basically it's the size of a small telephone book and it lists parts by their store location. You can try to find whatever you need in the book and call them up to see if they have it. If they do just buy it over the phone and have it shipped to your location.

If you are in the Tokyo area, the best place to find used parts is this place 30mins outside toyko called Hasegawa. That place is huge and they have a lot of good stuff, at pretty good prices. Some of the other seco-hand stores are dinky little places that don't have a lot of stuff.

Hope This Helps...

I used to live in Sagami prefecture (I was at Atsugi - Navy SAR, I'm a civi now though) and there are tons of places to go, besides what 808Supra said there is also Up-Garage and ATS-BM..both are used parts stores that always have good deals. There are also several used rims shops around as well. The junk yards also seemed to be the best gold mine, but you have to get dirty..so not for the faint-clothes-hearted..lol! You'd be shocked what we used to find in those places..including perfectly running, great cars, with aftermarket parts on them all ready...turbines, controllers, coilovers, exhaust, you name it. You just have to look around and "dig". Have fun. I'll be back in Japan for a month this coming trip, got TAS and OAM which are conveiniantly 1 month apart..haha!

man you aint kidding about junkyards. thats where i got my s13 k's from. i picked it up for 500 bucks nothing wrong with it except for no radio and 41000kms. it already had rims and intake. but yeah here in sagamihara-shi there are a decent amount of used parts shops. i go to up-garage, parts off, showa auto, garage off, and so on. im on zama which is close to alot of them.

as for okinawa i know the junkyard dudes are pretty chill. just give them beer and pizza and they give you anything. well my dad knew the native language so it was easier and free. i think there is a new up garage on oki and you can check out bay area starks or auto shop turbo.
