this is the third rebuild on this motor and i have poped cometic head gaskets like its my job! first set up was a t25 with cometic and head studs on 15psi ...poped a head gasket.....then i had a t28 with same head studs and new cometic head gasket. prolly a dumb idea but ran the t28 at like 18psi-20psi and blew a head gasket. im not sure if the amount of boost that i am running on a stock tune specifically relates to me poping head gaskets
**KEEP IN MIND EVERYTHING WAS RESURFACED AND DECKED BEFORE EVERY ASSEMBLY **
Ok heres what i have
redtop
arp head studs
cometic head studs
and a stock t25 turbo i have a greddy pro frc b spec 2 boost controller and am wondering what would be the max safe amount of boost on a stock tune?
and help is much appreciated

Cometic H/G are garbage
if your popping cometic H/G then its safe to say they are garbage
Get a real H/G, IE: Apexi
Not to mention running a T28 on stock ECU @ 18-20 Psi is Fucking Stupid.
On a S13 SR the T-28 maxes out the stock injectors at 8-10psi, as well as the T-28 maxing out at 15-16 PSI
You need a fucking tune, a REAL ONE! Not a damn SAFC.

Doesnt matter you're still a retard, especially since you popped a H/G 3 times and you dont know why.

Make sure if you're going to call someone a retard you use the correct YOU'RE with the apostrophe ;)
there are a lot of things i could try to help you with here but it's obvious that whatever was holding the head down wasn't doing it's job,
on top of that as said before the gasket isnt a great one either, Get an Apexi
The cometic is crap however this is pretty true, unless they have done something totally amazing to revamp the design.
I am going to have to rant for a few seconds though
LOOK!
I'm not sure how many times I have to keep spewing this advice or maybe because I have been too busy with my other stuff I am working on to post but PIGGY BACKS ARE NOT REAL ENGINE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS...
EMS is a standalone or a replacement ECU/ECM (computer) i.e. the box that is the brain that runs your motor!!!
In my 10 years of experience with cars and nissans Piggy backs are no good for our cars, especially the cheaper ones like AFC and older emanage
The only one I have seen that didn't blow up the car within a few months of use is the AEM FIC so far
Everyone on this forum should do themselves a favor, if you're not running an EMS just get a one size fits all rom tune and stick to lower outputs and just drive the shit out of the car.
If you want control you will need to invest some research and time into EMS, real EMS solutions, find a local dyno, or at least get a unit with a person who can help you get the car dialed in remotely...
Otherwise you're always going to be intercepting shotty wiring harnesses from front clips and messing with inputs and outputs of critical engine functions to the ECU by having a piggy back installed on the car.
Even if it was a brand new harness and sensors I personally would never run a piggy back on my car.
Think of it this way if you're willing to spend 600-800 dollars on tires, or even 1000-1500 on wheels or any other host of parts and your goal is to go fast? or race? or actually drift with a decent build and motor setup then invest that money into an EMS or standalone like a power fc, haltech or AEM first! It's much better money spent. If you just want the car to look sexy then spend 1000-1500 on the rims, but personally I wouldn't feel right spending that money on rims that are worth more than my car unless the car already had 300-400 whp to boot ;)

I have had more SR20det's Than I can count. I too have have terrible experience with Cometic. On the other hand I have great success with COSWORTH HG's and I have been tightening the ARP's to 100ft/lbs with no problems. I cant agree with the previous members statement that a SAFC tune is completely worthless. I have owned several 240's and drove them daily on 14psi on low boost and 17-18psi on high boost with no problems on a stock headgasket with a SAFC 2 tune. In Atlanta our Premium unleaded is 93 octane. Im not sure if that is different from what you guys were using. Have you checked the headstuds to see if they are backing off? What were you tightening them too? Anyways good look next time.

You're over tightening your headstuds for one... Most SR ARP's are 3 equal steps to 80-90ft/lbs...
SAFC is garbage, end of story... There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it, it plain sucks donkey dick.
