So here is the deal guys. My transmission on my SR20 before I pulled the engine would make a squeaking sound any time I let off the clutch, in neutral. It sounded a lot like a TOB going bad, but the thing was, I had just replaced the clutch maybe 4-5,000 miles ago with new TOB etc.

I found that the transmission's front cover(where the Fork and TOB etc slides onto) had the collar break off of the front cover.

I believe this to be the issue and the cause of the noise, and I was wondering what could cause the breakage of this guide collar, and where can I get a new trans front cover(because the collar attaches to it)? The trans itself is the bomb, no grinds etc, so I'd really not like to have to purchase a new trans because of this.

Is a KA one the same?

It's the cover that goes on top of this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/duballstar37/IMG_0604.jpg

Here is the 240sx one: http://www.courtesyparts.com/32110-cover-assy-front-240sx-s13-1989-1994-p-69353.html

Will it be the same for the SR?

KA is the same,

Ive seen this happen a few times now, probably from lack of grease on the carrier shaft

make sure there is sufficient grease on the shaft and inside the carrier

Also happens when there is flex between the gearbox and engine.

Mine broke twice due to loose/missing bellhousing bolts.

My friend and myself have both broken them (mine was within a week), but we have chocked it up to harsh clutches(ex stage 4) and it being thing aluminum. If your mounts are crap that can also lead to flex stated above.

I don't think mounts have any or much to do with it but I will agree with the harsh clutch kicks or just the extra stress related to an upgraded clutch will do it. Bottom line is that they'll break occasionally.

What I mean by mounts part is if your trans is loose a tad and your mounts are screwed it will just compound the issue. Mounts alone wont do it.
