I am going to get a '99 or 2000 Nissan Frontier Expanded cab 4x4. I want to put a RB26DETT in it and have it AWD. I just want to get some thoughts on it.

buy the truck..dont do the swap

the money u spend to buy a RB26 n make it AWD u can use n buy some quality wheels and a new kit.

To be straight up honest, I don't think you can do it. Nor will you do it. Flame me for being pessimistic, agree with me for being realistic.

Yea i seen that too on a dvd called mischief, anyway, i say go for it if thats what you really want i think it would be sweet, then again i would rather see that motor in a 240.

Why don't you just get the Titan, 300hp, 375lb/ft torque, and that comes STOCK! Why screw around with a swap in a truck??? Why lose the warranty?(if it comes with one). Too much time and effort. Not worth it, in my opinion....go for the titan....mmmmmmm:drool:

You know, I'm going to disagree with the majority here and say I think it would be very interesting.
If I'm not mistaken the Dakar frontiers had rb's in them last year.
Please correct me if I am incorrect.
They will probably have vq's or something silly this year.

I really don't see why it would be so hard. Just expensive.
If you are serious, go for it. Prove the nay sayers wrong.

One question why put it in a 99-00 nissan frontier... That would be so expensive to do.... I would find an older truck with a crapped out motor for cheap and then do the swap

Probably a VERY expensive project, expecially to do the whole drive train conversion. Try getting an early 90s Pathfinder and swapping in a VG30DETT? Just an idea.

Thanks for some of the opinons. I know that it is going to be expensive. I already found a R34 front clip for $4500 and I am planning on finding a Frontier with an already blown engine. I asked a company that already installed several RB26's into 240's already. They say it will cost around $2,000 for the install. I figure buy a Frontier for around 3K, buy the front clip for 5K with shipping and install for 2K. I will spend est. $10,000 maybe more maybe less. But it would be kick ass to dust the Hicks around my area that think there truck is so fast. Dude you got beat by a 6 cylinder twin turbo import truck HA!

You could certainly swap a much more affordable, lighter, smaller engine into the truck and do just as well beating all the mullets on the block. I had an AWD Sylcone in high school (Still in the family), and now drive a Frontier that I have turbo'ed the stock motor of. By the time I'm finished performing bolt on upgrades to the engine and finish tuning, the 2WD Frontier four cyl. will be faster than the AWD Syclone V-6. Trucks are easy as hell to drift, as they have pretty harsh suspension when unloaded, and no weight over the rear axle. Just don't go for the aggresive angles; you might find yourself backing into corners rather than steering into them! The problem with the conversion is that the steering on the Skyline is rack and pinion, affording more room around the engine. The truck's steering system is not rack and pinion, so you would have a great deal of difficulty overcoming the limitations of the from steering geometry. The other concern is the steering shaft itself; if you intend to keep the vehicle LHD. Also, the Frontier 4WD has front auto locking free running hubs, which such for tight maneuvers in parking lots while left engaged in 4WD. The AWD driveline system is lighter, and more refined for driveability's sake. The RB26DETT transfer case has the front prop shaft exiting towards the front diff on the intake side of the block (JDM driver side); the Frontier (Being V-6 not L-6) has the output on the US LHD side. The drivelines simply do not interface. You would have to switch to the entire Skyline suspension/driveline system in the front. Don't think that that will be easy either, as the Frontier uses torsion bars as the front suspension springs; i.e.: pivots are the springs themselves, and no strut towers to modify or bolt into. The idea does not suck, don't get me wrong; the project sure as hell would suck a big fat one through a really long tight straw, though. Unless you and about four other friends named Jesse James have the time to do a Monster Garage bit on this don't expect to have the tools, knowledge, or budget to finish this job. It would take a few engineering degrees to do it right and make it last longer than the debt incurred doing it.

Want to do a swap into a truck? Get a 90's Hardbody and throw an SR20DET into the mix. Or better yet, an S10 with an LT1 or LS1. Both are much easier and more cost effective.

So, if he does acutally does this, could people tell me RB26DETTs are truck engines then?:coolugh:

That is just a few, not many done by one shop, and one of those is an rb25.

I didn't say it was one shop doing many swaps. You asked if anyone knew of an RB26 into a 240. I showed you. Don't ask for stuff you don't want. Or do your own damn research :bash:.

just cut your roof off and make your 240 into a truck like countless japanese tuners before you.

or you could get a ranger with a 2.3 liter, and buy a shitty turbo coupe from the 80's.
The 2.3 liter turbo bolts in and will support 350-400 hp easily as a daily driver. Parts are all over the place.

The sr20 in the hardbody is also really easy, i've seen a 400 hp T3/t4 sr20 in a hardbody run 12's.

Thanks king_johnthegreat for pointing alot of that stuff out. The shop I asked told me that they haven't seen a Frontier engine bay yet so they weren't sure how hard it would be. I'm just looking for a truck that is different and still have power and 4WD. Because I need the 4WD for the winter. Otherwise I would get an old hardbody and put another SR into my vehicle. Because I am keeping my SR powered 240 as a weekend car I need something that has 4WD and still has alot of power and is Nissan. And is in the price range of 7,000 to 10,000 dollars.

Rav4 + 3S-GTE + Custom Bell Housing = More sence

I was just noticing the lack of AWD motors from Toyota....minus the All Trac Celica. But shit, if you can turn a 3S-GTE, make a custom bell housing and slap it in a Camry, I suppose you can do the same with a Rav4.
