Hello gentlemen,
Can anyone please tell me which way the front oil seal is supposed to go in? I thought I would be able to tell by the old one, but I completely destroyed it in the process of removing it.

This is how the new seal looks:

Side B

I would guess side A is the front (facing the crank pulley) and side B is the rear (facing the motor). Can anyone please confirm or refute this?

My other question is, does the seal stay still while the crank pulley spins inside it? If this is the case, would it be beneficial to put grease on this inside of it (but not the outside, I would assume)?

Thank you for any help.

Side A faces out, yes.
and as a rule of thumb, whatever type of fluid that is going to come in contact with the seal, its a good idea to use that fluid to install/lube with, motor oil in this case.

Sounds good, thank you both for the tips.

Pretty much your initial suspicions are correct.

Add lube and you should be fine. Alot of companies will already line the inside of the seal with a grease to assist.

is there a such thing as a puller or knocking it out? The front cover looks like something i dont want to take off. Also when it comes off, will oil gush out if i hadnt drained the oil?

From the walkthroughs I found online, it seems that people just claw at it with a flathead screwdriver, so that is what I did. It came out after a while.
Not sure if oil would start pouring out or not. I drained mine just to be safe.

Nah, oil doesn't pour out.
I did mine without draining the oil.

Killed my back bending down that far to work at it though.

As a tip to others, if your car is lowered, put it on ramps so you don't have to touch your toes to get at the seal.

I just dont know how ima get it out. im doing the rear as well. im taking the rear reatiner off for sure, but the front seems to be pryable. I might not bother with the front since their isnt an oil trace, Im putting in a used engine.
