I agree, this is ridiculous. what the hell goes through someones mind to think that just because your favorite team loses a championship its ok to cause millions of dollars worth of damage to people who have ABSOLUTLEY nothing to do with it?

I skimmed through the articles, if i recall in 94 they won? and now they lost. Both times they tore apart the City

So whether they win or lose , they still tear shit up

Idiots

I also feel bad for the saps that got their cars burnt and tipped over, although i would have not had my car on the street neither would anyone else with half a brain.

I would have liked to see the police tear it up more these fools needed to be taught a lesson that was obviously forgotten

We lost in 94 as well, the whole thing was absolutely insane though, the cops were just standing there for the most part watching the people blow shit up, looting, etc.

Mfw the same thing happened and they were supposed to be ready B|

Phlip, Canadians are nice people for the most part, but those people are total douches, and are the bottom feeders of vancouver lol

Also, apparently there were some anarchists who started the whole thing? They were dressed in all black, going around breaking shit/looting during the olympics as well

It's better than LA. Lakers fans riot whether they win or lose.
Los Dogers aren't much better.

It's usually just a matter of well cops anticipate and plan situations like this

I really wish they would make Luo the backup and keep Schneider as the primary goalie.

they got outp played, if you saw the game you can tell. I don't even watch hockey but you could see only one team was on the ice that night.

The riots were started by low life scum who went downtown to start chaos regardless of the game's outcome. Fans don't bring rocks and molotov cocktails with them to watch a game, anarchists do.
A facebok page has bee created to help identify the rioters and make sure the guilty people get what they deserve.

American sports fans do not riot because their sports are too slow-paced and boring to inspire such a rush.

I watched a Whitecaps game once, bored out of my mind - World Cup was much better, if only for the crowd. Regular season games though

I find basketball much more entertaining to watch, so much a c t i o n, depending on who's playing. I live in the wrong country lol

What a disgrace, I would be totally embarrassed if I lived there, forever shamed in my eyes and I feel in many others as well. If I was there I would have beaten so many idiots down who tried to do shit.

I think it's a combination of the hype and the massive crowds downtown. Vancouver calls itself a "hockey city" and their long playoff run made everyone a fan. People start congregating downtown to watch the game and then the city decides to start closing streets to accommodate the growing crowd.

Police reported few problems because the Canucks were winning. Liquor stores closed early, but the lines beforehand were insane. And of course the bars were packed.

Were 100,000 people in downtown Chicago during the Finals? Mob mentality plays a big role. If you're in a crowd you think you can get away with anything.

Oh and...

i've always found it interesting why hockey has never caught on more in the us. its basically everything americans love. big hits, fast paced, high skill, fights. like football but faster paced. and at least hockey players aren't pansies like basketball or baseball players.

my guess is hockey would take off in the us it people could actually afford to put their kids in organized teams. hockey is probably the most expensive organized sport to enroll a child in.

I don't personally enjoy watching Hockey but I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the cost to participate.

Any other sport is more accessible at any time of day. If you want to go into your backyard and play catch, go down the street and shoot some hoops, or practice football, then you can. It's not so easy with Hockey.

My parents enrolled me in hockey lessons till I was 12 years old. I stopped going and stopped taking it seriously because they couldn't afford to purchase me the expensive chest guard.

How many of us have ice hockey rinks in our backyard?

It probably is a matter of having more facilities to support the sport.
Can't imagine it would be that expensive to say football or baseball.

Maybe it is more popular in colder climates, where ppl have more access to winter sports based lifestyle.
Obviously you're not going to find the sport as accessible if you haven't done any ice skating prior.
Anyone can pick up a basketball & shoot hoops.

It is a pretty fun game to watch, and I don't mind if it's already on.

I used to play hockey and the equipment is very expensive and there is a good bit more of it then football. in highschool football and even popwarner the equipment is supplied if they couldn't do that for hockey then most people couldn't afford outfitting a growing kids.

Yeah...
In pop warner, they supplied our stuff, same for middle and high school - all except for shoes and gloves.
Same for baseball the one year I played.
Hell, to play basketball, all you need is a pair of sneakers, so even if you opt for the high dollar ones, it's no huge deal. We have a couple of ice rinks here in my town now, and the Carolina Hurricanes stopped and played here on the way between Hartford and Raleigh, but dead in the middle of ACC country, basketball is king where I live.
