View Full Version : exhaust
ok, i've been looking at the apex-i n-1 dual for my s13, i've heard many good things, plus it looks sooo awesome, but i've heard two verybad things, and i don't want to belive it. i've heard that it backfires b/c of too much air flow, plus it's too big to fit the rear sway bars. i don't know what to do. i want somethign unique, but i'd sacrifce that for an exhaust system that adds hp, sounds really deep, adn is good for my car. i was thinking tanabe racing medallion. well if have any suggestions it would help a lot thanx

bye the way through in some pictures if u have any. i w really want apic of an s13 with single n-1.
It shouldn't backfire, you could but the apex GT spec on there w/out any backfires. Also, I asked this question a while back before I got my swaybars since this is the exhaust I'm going to get, everybody told me it would fit no problem. Also, i've heard this is a very loud, but deep sounding exhaust
You can pick one up at either http://www.rollhard.com (im sure you've seen that one) or http://www.boostdynamics.com they are about the same price after shipping give or take five bucks.
These pics aren't on 240's but you can atleast see what they look like...

I just got back putting on coil overs on my S13. My word of advice is..if you really like corner so much to sacrifice the good ride taking your girl next to you out, then sure do it. Otherwise stick with good adjustable shocks and springs, or get streetable coil overs that has dampening adjustment with double spring like lower model TEIN's.
does anyone have anything else to add about the exhaust sytems, here. i know u guys know a little more bout them..? i really need halep... i want th majority opinion, and don't wann trust the 240sx board. they covinced me into ordereing an apex-i dunk, and i dont like it,, it backfires tooo much.

if i remember correctly 2.25 inch piping will give you the best results, for sure don't go bigger than 2.5 unless you're turbocharged

whats the difference between these mufflers and the universal mufflers?
these exhaust systems above are a cat back system that has been designed for maximum performance per each manufacturer. All the above are hard core race companies that actually use their product on their circuit vehicles.
Universal mufflers are available also, but you will not have the larger piping and straight pipe design that comes with the cat back, thus not as much power gain

Absolutely nothing. The catback exhaust systems saves you the monkey work of going to a muffler shop to get your muffler wielded on to custom fabricated exhaust piping or your existing factory exhaust piping (which isn't recommended since the factory specs are obviously smaller, thus making the aftermarket muffler less efficient than it was intended to be). Also, the full catback system is just a bolt on and can be installed using hand tools and a few floor jacks. The universal muffler is self-explainatory, you can basically use that muffler as a starting point for a custom exhaust on any car, (####, even your mom's Camry! LOL) while the pre-packaged system is made for specific applications.

I just put my Apex'i N1 Dual on today! I love it, sounds great. It doesnt backfire or anything, sometimes it pops a bit on decel, but that sounds sweet I think. I would like to know more about that clearance problems with rear sway bars though. Here are some picts of my car.

Coastek I have the DUAL N1 on my car and i have had it for about a month. I love it to death, it sounds just like what i was looking for Deep and mean. It does tend to pop but nothing you would be able to notice. The fit was perfect, I had no broblem at all. If you need to know any thing about it just repost or e-mail me.
[email protected] Good luck and hope to see more 240's out there with Exhaust.

Exhausts that aren't N1 and doesn't crackle: GReddy SP (S13), GReddy MX (S14), Tanabe G-Power Medallion (S14, out of production). There's more that's out there, but I dunno what. Probably some random JDM company that's too difficult for us US folks to get products from.
The Apex'i N1, Blitz Nur-Spec, and 5-Zigen Fireball are fairly loud since they're N1 style anyway. The Tanabe Racing Medallion is "Oh my God my ears are bleeding!" loud without the silencer.

The G-Power Medallion has been replaced by the Hyper Medallion. It depends on what you plan to do to your car too for N/A I'd go with the HKS hiper, but for Turbo, the NUR Spec-R is an excellent exhaust.

For S13's there's the classic (almost factory looking) HKS Sport exhaust. The only bad thing is that they're not stainless steel.

Takumi, you've actually heard the Racing medallion on a 240sx??!? is it louder than the N-1 dual? how does it sound?
Takumi
02-03-2002, 04:09 PM
Nope, but I've heard it on a Prelude. ..and no, I don't wanna hear "blahblahblah Hondas suck" or anything. It has a 2.2L engine, that displacement is pretty close to a 240SX's and the Tanabe mufflers are all the same for any car so I assume the sounds would be somewhat similar. Without the silencer it's pretty damned loud. With the silencer, it sounds like a Chinese fire cracker at high RPM.

There is a big difference in getting custom piping on a universal muffler than buying a good manufactured designed cat back exhaust. We have done plenty of road testing to know this. This doesn't mean the custom piping will do nothing, but the manufacturer exhaust from a good company will give you better air flow in certain RPM levels than someone who just puts a standard custom pipe on.
