don't know really what color i want. i was think of a blue like the rx-8 or some color like that or a candy apple red or even like a midnight blue. my wheels are gram lights 57 pro the off set is +35 17X8 215 45 dunlop. i wish i would have got a different offset but i bought them off some guy with out tire for cheap, they had never been put on a car. the head lamps are dual i wish i had the square ones. and i do have the gp sports turbo, coilovers, exhaust, and manifold. i should get the car back in about a week or two so i will take pics of it then.http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid60/p44937fa010a3cd1347730989aabb3fe3/fc4e9610.jpg

not trying to be an smart ass but people need to stop buying wheels simply because are there for 'cheap even if they aren't the right width and offset. they are screwing themsevles over for doing that. Oh it was cheap...oh it was crap!

Its mostly looks with those offsets, if a good deal comes, buy it, if it clears your suspension and brakes your all good, spacers and camber will make em look good, chances of finding the "perfect" offset is gonna be hard.

Tire choice and wheel width is a lot more important than a few mm in offset .

quit while you're ahead..some spacers will take care of that issue. Not everyone has the money to get that mean dish they may wish they could get..but he bought Gram Lights and NOT Racing Harts...so at least he didn't buy "crap". How old are you? Some of you on here need some experience before you mouth off at other peoples shit. I love the kit and love the rims...good on ya..as for Nitefigs.. :bash:

oh come on now, nitekids DOES make a point.. its better off to save and buy GOOD rims then waste time and money with shietty wheels.

besides, spacers are not cheap.. PLUS, wheel studs are even MORE expensive.. trust me, I've been through it with my S13. Putting FD wheels on my car was no easy task, but atleast the FD wheels are worth it.. 16x8 and only 14-15 pounds each.

If you're gonna go through the trouble of putting spacers, atleast make sure the wheels are gonna be worth it. Good quality spacers and studs will easily run 500 bucks for all 4 sides.

How can their be 2 "the ends"
Also.. what about the GTR "style" bumper im sure that was a HQ bumper. not.
And the wheel thing, i say if their the right price and their a HQ wheel, why not, im sure he will upgraede when the time comes when he needs to, for now he could get extended lugs and some 15mm spaces and it would look decent. But personaly I wouldent put anything in 17 on my car in the back unless it was a 9" wheel, but whatever floats your boat

The end (see you say it once not twice, so it is more affective... baka)

If he did keep the stock wheel you'd complain and start your stupid sunk wheel jokes. And if he does get new wheels that are gonna be off by like ~10mm you still complain, cuz everyones car is not NiteKids quality.

8" with +35 isn't bad. It will be pretty damn close to flush. 5mm spacers all around and they would be "Drifta flush" (trying to coin a new phrse here.. HAHA)

Personally, I wouldn't bother. The wheels will look fine the way they are.

weirdstyles.net

im confused? Why did everyone jump on NiteKids?

OMG, what a role reversal.

NiteKids, for once, politely made a very valid point of discussion and all he gets is blah blah blah VIS blah blah blah high horse?

Everyone, just stfu. NiteKids, valid point but I think we both know the reason. Everyone is hoping to get what they want at a lower price, so they're willing to sarcrice their offset. Personally, after reading on a lot of spacers and adapters, I dont want anything between my hub and my wheel.

This kind of bullshit is why a good thread about a damn nice car ends up locked and sitting at the bottm of page 127302367987.

Homie, nice ass car. I envy you to no end. Congratulations, your the man. Keep us all posted.

How is the fitment with gp sports? Bolts up easily / fits well? I know they make some of the nicer looking kits but I haven't seen too many people with them...

Being that you have the fastback I think you should have gotten the 180sx rear bumper rather than the s13 rear bumper. Just my $.02. Other than that it looks great, I was planning on getting the same kit (well the 180 kit anyway) myself and was looking for some other pics besides on GP's website to get an idea of how it would look.

I like the bodykit. The wheels are nice too IMO. Just get some spacers for now.

DuffMan
10-29-2003, 09:58 AM
Well, with those wheels he can clear coilovers if he sticks with the 215 tire. Given that tire size I don't see any advantage to a lower offset in the front. Just mucks up the steering feel IMHO.

My friend painted his old vee dub bug midnight blue and from most angles, the car will look black. When you see it in the light, it looks mostly dark purple. It's kind of a cool color but you should probably check out midnight blue on someone else's car to get a better picture.

Ok, this MAY sound like I am on a high horse, and ALWAYS defending Nitekids, BUT!!!!!

How many of you actually have agressive ass bodykits that stick out? And how many of you know what size and offsets look good or bad? Seriously, before attacking Nitekrap, lets go over a few things:

This thread was talking about how DOPE ASS TYTE MAD JDM that bodykit LOOKS. In HIS (and my) oppinion, Nitekids thinks that those wheels will look like ass.

WHY DO YOU BRING UP A "PERFORMANCE" ASPEC OF HIS SHITTY WHEELS?? And by performance you think that he will have SUPREMELY better steering feel:rolleyes: Duffman, you sir are out of control. Not only the fact that my stetering (and anyone else i know with LOWER offset and WIDER wheels) is super responsive, but if this dude ACTUALLY cared about getting those wheels for the "performance" of crisper steering, he WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT A $2000 GPSPorts BODYKIT!!!!!!!!!!! What performance benefit does that thing offer???

OMG

Ok, more. Your sideskirts are going to sit about... 2 inches OUTSIDE of your wheel lip!!! HAHAHA, but shiiiiit your steering response will be GREAT  Check this, I am putting 20mm spacers on my wheels. Thats 17x9 +10. WHY? (Well mainly because of a wider track) But also because my wheels are STILL sunk in from my sidekirts which stick out way less than yours. That is with 17x9 +25. Well +30 with 5mm spacer. (I also think that 17x9 +25 is far from flush with 215/45/17s).

Anyway, sell those wheels to someone else "looking for a good deal" and get some 17x9.5 +12s or something. Oh, and to satisfy Duffman's "performance" needs, a GTO steering shaft spacer.:p

i love that body kit and could give two sheits about his wheels or offset, you do realize that this is the only car forum on the whole internet where offset is stressed so much, you know what when/if i do get rims for my car im not gonna post pics here because
1. i dont have a digital camera and if given one i wouldent know how to use it
2. im sure thered be someone who nitpicks things like offset or oh snap theres a scrape on the rim! well guess what, lick em'

blah blah blah.. are you grasping the fact that we're not (well me at least) contesting whether hes right or not. he has a right to his opinion and imo it would look better with lower offset as well.

what i dont like is that he's a hypocrite who whines all day about wheels with bad offset. he just had wheels with the same offset and now he can't stand it? whatever

anyway.. looks good man. can't wait to see her all pretty and painted.

KiDyNomiTe
10-29-2003, 09:36 PM
Dorifto, yes this thread for the most part is about looks, so whats wrong with spacers. My argument is why send back a good deal on wheels that can the "JDM Look" with some spacers.

NiteKids is right to say they won't be perfect, cuz they won't, but to say send em back and pay a lot more for a 5-10 mm difference is just down right stupid and a waste of money and of time.

Then to tell him to keep the stock wheels instead then when he gets his car painted everyone is gonna make fun of him for having stock wheels.

Here's another thing. Even if it was negative 40000 offset the wheel is still too skinny. I think he should have atleast 9inch wide. But for being 4 lug 17x8 35offset is much better then 17x17 45 offset anyday of the week. Still not exactly that great but atleast better. I can understand having 4 lug you are quite limited in wheel width and offset.

Yea I said that before, I wouldent put a wheel smaller than 9 in the back if I had 17s, I agree

8s should be fine its a lot bigger difference than 6s, he could always pick up a pair of 9s for the rear in the future.

Where the hell are you buying your spacers and what are they made of? ROFLOL!!!

He doesn't need like 60mm spacers or anything crazy like that, maybe 10-15mm probably..even still I NEVER had to pay that much for spacers..even threaded spacers (ones requiring additional bolts due to higher mm added) at that. Why do people type things and not check themselves before they do so? If you're going to wrote something and try to "appear" to be smart...do your research (before the post). ;)

My argument is why send back a good deal on wheels that can the "JDM Look" with some spacers. 50mm spacers are hard to come by. Although I suppose 2 25mm per corner would work. But spacers are out of the question! Duffman thinks that the added bump steer and scrub radius would be unacceptable. Well actually i would have to agree with him on that....

See, there is a reason why people want that "JDM look". Its called "RDM Functionality" (RDM=Realworld Domestic Market). A wide wheel will only fit with a certain offset. Generally, the lower the offset, the more scrub radius and bump steer. OH snap, with a wide wheel the center of the contact patch is not as far away as a narrow wheel with spacers. AH muffuckas hate the "JDM look" all you want but when functionality comes knocking be prepared to pay the fuck up!

Lets see...
A 9 inch wheel with offset +10 would be equivelent to a 7 inch with -15 offset. The car and suspension being the same, the distance from the "dave point" (the point where the steering axis meets the ground plane) to the mounting hub will stay the same, since we are only changing the wheels in this demonstration. Lets call that distance X. The center of the contact patch will assumably lie in line with the center of the wheel width (if we have 0 camber). The contact patch center on the 9 inch wheel here will sit distance (X-10) or 10mm TOWARDS the steering axis from the hub. The 7 inch will sit distance (X+15) or 15mm AWAY FROM the steering axis. ON TOP OF THAT... the contact patch will be wider on the 9 inch wheel (unless we have the same size tires on... in which case the contact patch SHOULD be the same).

Anyway, remember the bit about 0 camber??? Since no one caring about this speil SHOULD have 0 camber (terrible for performance)... adding in negative camber will move the contact patch center CLOSER to the steering axis, since it will now be centered towards the shoulder of the tire. WELL all you haters of wide wheels and low offsets, but the center of the contact patch on these setups is ALMOST the same as stock. :coolugh: looks like someones agument is going straight out the window:doh: :wtc:

Now, does Nitekids know this and use it as his reasoning when mocking "pizzacutters". No. But I do, and I dont like narrow wheels, so Im on his side.

As for his previous bodykits. Yeha thats shit was ugly as fuck. But I bet if he could have done it right the first time he would have. I just dont want this dude with the GPSports kit to be all bummed out when his car looks NOTHING like this:
http://www.gpsports-na.com/aero/typer_s13_rr_lg.jpg

The car looks good. I'd really love to see the finished product. If the wheels end up bothering you too much. You can always sell them and buy a set of cheap ass played out 5zigen fno1rc's w/some low offsets. Get the offsets super low so you have to camber the fawk out of it so you won't rub. Also make sure to drop your car to the ground so the front bumper scrapes and starts to look all nasty. Remember you gotta make sure that you keep the stock KA in there too. None of your mods will matter if your car is fast, its gotta look fast but be slow as fuck. After you do all this, the "offset police:fruit:" will truly    .

Nitekids..why would he need a 30mm spacer? Do you actually really know about offset or are you just going off of what people "say" about it or what would "work". Do you know about steering acumen or steering geometry? It sounds like your think you might know. Someone just hit on it slightly a minute ago speaking of bumpsteer..but..wait..why am I even entertaining you, I'd lose half of you if I tried to explain it. If you want, you can ask dousan36 or Dorifto180sx..I'm not a troll and I just might know what I'm talking about. Haha, 17x8 +25 will look good with that bodykit? Riiiiight. 17x9 +15 on stock body with a large amount of camber is flush on a low S13. Nothing looks worse than skinny wheels with spacers, it makes the car look bowlegged. 17x9.5 +10 is what belongs on that car.

$2000 in wheels, or $2000 in bodykit, which looks better? Seems most people are all about having their car kitted up. It still looks like ass when the car looks like it's tip toeing while straddling a pile of shit. It should just fall in.

DuffMan
10-30-2003, 07:29 AM
Just to clarify about the steering feel comment, theres more to steering feel than response. You can fix response with harder sidewalls, GTO spacer and just a stiffer suspension.

The problem that personally bugs me is the change in the distanse of the steering axis from the contact patch (scrub radius). This is something I have felt personally as I have gone from stock to +35 to +28 and now +25. Maybe people just dont notice it because the general steering feel of the 240sx sucks ass. On a lot of sports cars with good steering feel (Porsches, BMWs) the owners are OBSESSIVE about having the stock offset on aftermarket wheels. Its because of this reason.

It's a trade off for those who want to run bigger tires, and coilovers that use a smaller bracket. Whatever, to each his or her own.

He doesn't need 50 mm spacers. It's kinda hard to say how much he is gonna need without knowing what camber he'll be running. It will be trial and error for him.

I don't know this guys personally, but do you know how much tracking he does with his car? All this talk abotu performace is pretty useless if he goes to a track very few times. If he goes a lot he is probably going to end up getting another set of cheaper wheels. But these are all just my thoughts.

I have no problem with the JDM look, it looks great, I'll probably end up having my car look similar, minus the kits. If I got a good deal on some wheels that were close to looking flush I'd buy em. When I begin tracking my car I will probably end up buying cheap half decent wheels while saving for something perfect. Money doesn't grow on trees, and waiting around for some wheels to either come in from Japan, or waiting and saving even more money to buy different wheels is not a fun wait, especially if he is going to rolling around on a flashy GP Sports kit with Turbo of some sort on 6 inch +40 wheels

For the record I have no clue what VRT is talking about. Yeah. I dont know him... hes just some random dude that pisses on the side of every mountain he goes to.

hahaha. I feel like this is Comedy Central Roast of Dousan and Dorifto. Only not funny. And we arent famous. And, well who the fuck is Dousan anyway, I dont know him in real life.

"Who am I?"
*riiing*
"God?"

Hahah Zoolander rocks.

um yeah this thread is funny, but its locking is inevetible. WAIT, TTRRRRY to keep it on topic..

ah,

ah,

ah, the um rear bumper looks good. Actually it does. Everythig is cool except the Silvia face and the offsets. Heh.

Ok i'm done. Hillary Duff isnt posting anymore, so i cant really say anything funny.

p.s. for the record, at 40% (lead driver induced) Mike is a crazy motherfucker. No way in hell will he ever drive my car with no "pace car" in front of him.:coolugh: :p

so can I empty a clip into henry's forehead now?.....................

how bout now??.................

Dousan (Aaron) and Dorifto180sx (Lindsay) are well respected for many reasons:

1) Both whores have the skill and experience (yes these guys are good drivers)

2) Both have the knowledge and expertise (do work to their car themselves)

3) Car's and nicely and tastefully done, (they not some 15 yr old posting who is going to get a car soon, and yes, look at pics of their cars or check out their cars in person)

4) Very happily married couple..

as for me: no skill. shitty car.. no good. thats why I dont give advise, or show my POS. but if you want advise on how to hit trash can and send it into the path of your friend's car at a track event, I know a thing or two about that. :D

Haha, man..I get caught everywhere that nature calls! At least no one follows me into regular bathrooms with cameras! LOL!

Oh, come on..please!!!! Wait, then why is your Dad willing to let me borrow his coupe when we shoot in Maui? Haha..you didn't tell him much about me did you? LOL! ...uhhm..don't because I still want a car to drive! You going to DD9? We'll be there.

and nokeone..no worries man, that picture has floated all over the internet..I can't believe how many times I've seen that. That picture was actually taken several years ago..we've been at it out here for a while now. Maybe it rubs off on Dorifto180sx.. ;)

Haha, its like this thread has turned out war with everyone jumping in on a side.

Sorry I couldnt respond to the BS earlier, but I only waste my time with this stuff when I'm at work. I didn't bother to read the part of the thread where Dorifto "owned" me before my last post, but now I'll take the time to pick it apart.

No it would be equivelent to a 7 inch with +10 offset in terms of the center of the contact patch. Unless you are using spacers. I didnt really see what the hell you are talking about.

This is kind of giberish so I dont know what you are getting at. Keep in mind it is from the CENTER of the contact patch.

Anyway, remember the bit about 0 camber??? Since no one caring about this speil SHOULD have 0 camber (terrible for performance)... adding in negative camber will move the contact patch center CLOSER to the steering axis, since it will now be centered towards the shoulder of the tire.
The thing is even when you have 0 camber you dont really have 0 camber due to caster. The thing is, I dont care about the position of the "dave point" relative to the contact patch when I'm driving straight. It's when you're turning. Even if you have camber, the contact patch shifts to (hopefully) the center or outside of the wheel.

WELL all you haters of wide wheels and low offsets, but the center of the contact patch on these setups is ALMOST the same as stock. :coolugh: looks like someones agument is going straight out the window:doh: :wtc:

No it doesn't. Adding camber INCREASES the distance of the center of the tire from the "dave point" on a strut suspension. Not by a whole lot, but your "camber fixes the problem" argument is wrong.

I think your mistake is this "9 inch wheel with offset +10 would be equivelent to a 7 inch with -15 offset" thing. Width doesnt affect the position of the center of the tire relative steering axis. The offset does. Unless you are adding some mystery spacer here, your whole argument is bunk.

Seeing as we are on the topic of wheels I have a question.

I already asked Dousan and he said they would be decent but.. i need your guys 2 cents

16x8.5 +38 offset.. I felt the offset was quite high :-/ What do you guys think about that, and how bout a spacer, like a 6mm would that even make a diff or help anything..

Are these for the Nismo knock offs?

I would imagine that they would be off by a bit, especially if you are gonna be buying coils from Dave, you are gonna go crazy on the camber whenever you get em.

Wouldnt it work to just measure. Stock wheels are +40 6 inch, 25mm is about an inch (I think) 25.4 to be exact if my math is right. Wheels would extend on both sides I assume, so divide by two, figuring out camber is a whole other battle.

I'm running 18x8.5 w/a +30 up front and they cleared my coilovers just fine. w/and w/out camber. I had to slap a 5mm spacer in there afterwards to clear my calipers. But, w/the stock calipers there weren't any rubbing issues at all.

Dousan_PG
10-31-2003, 11:54 AM
what coilovers do you have blxmjx?

DuffMan
10-31-2003, 11:55 AM
Because your wheel was taller (18 inch) and the shock body angles outward as it goes upward, you have extra room than a 16 inch would. Also s14 i think has some extra room compared to S13.

No it would be equivelent to a 7 inch with +10 offset in terms of the center of the contact patch. Unless you are using spacers. I didnt really see what the hell you are talking about. He's saying that everyone who said make it flush with spacers would need a 25mm LOWER offset for the same outer position, thus why having a wider wheel with a higher offset if better.

Duffman, I know you love high offset skinny wheels because of their obvious handling benefits. You really showed them off by driving your car into a ditch at the convention

i was going to say if you had Apex coilovers (like n1 pro or type v) it would clear w/o spacers too if on 15s, 16s and 17s and such. bracket design.

IF you read duffman's post:

You would need like a 15mm spacer in front to clear most coils

itsalways like that
n1s are different then the average
just how zeal is one of the smallest on the market
yes 18s do make a difference too, just as 15s and 17s do

its like yeah i have 7" +27
with HUGE ASS Tires
so it hits the suspension

hav to loook at the WHOLE picture, not just a small portion.

clearance is based on and has ALWAYS been based on:

wheel size
offset
coilover type/shock springs
tire choice sizing
car height (if slammed you cant turn the wheels)
fender clearance (room...wide fenders, stock, rolled, etc)

Haha, not the ditch!

I drove into the ditch because the whole group stopped (i guess to let the slower cars go by) and myself, being towards the back of the group, ended up coming out of a blind turn accelerating through the turn, and suddenly finding a stopped car in front of me.

My choices were:

1. Slam on brakes, risk locking and hitting car in front of me. Could I have made it? Maybe. It would have been real close.

2. Putting two wheels off.

I think I made the right decision. Also gave the guy behind me an extra car length in which to stop, which he seemed to need because he came to a stop right next to me. Car wasnt damaged and was able to get back on with a bit of pusing.

I think my car handled pretty well on the uphill on the mountain. Sucked big time downhill because the brakes were fading (stock brakes with 2 people and 200+ lbs of stuff and gear sucks) and my tires got reaaaally greasey.

Hmm, large bracket moves the steering axis in, which causes the same issue I have with low offsets.
